    Did you know you can even disable that stupid little issue of windows automatically running arbitrary code on insertation of a CD? just goto the hardware manager and look at the properties of your CD/DVD drive and you can disable the stupid feature of windows! if i want to run something on a cd i'm looking at i'll bloody well do it myself!

    ah thats nothing, my neighbor had been having problems with his computer, Adaware found over 900 things, very few of them cookies since i tought him how to delete them before, and before you say its bunk, he's got 3 teenage daughters who do nothing but surf the web and know very little about computers, i've had to clean up virii many times for him.

    in the development series, this can be remidied, there is an option to have that menu up at the top of the image window, makes it less confusing for those of you who haven't gotten used to the right click

    problem with that is that the average geek hates being treated as a consumer like that, thats what appeals to them in linux, they are generally (take that with a grain of salt) treated as equals to the people who have been there longer than them, they learn to fix things themselves rather than have some company do it. if you want linux to head in that direction you're going to need a corporation to be able to do it, linux geeks generally dont want to dumb things down like that

    i dont understand either, i'm not sure how changing the source would help meet a deadline like that, but it does mean that if someflaw like a segfault shows up because of the way they did something, they can fix it to meet a deadline rather than redesign the entire scene to do it differently

    well you could use an xml file that describes all of the dependencies, and then have it generate something like this start_sshd: start_network start_rpcd: start_network stop_network: stop_sshd stop_rpcd

    I agree that linux isn't 100% secure, no operating system is, and more than likely never will be, nobody can make a perfect operationg system. Second, phpBB2 and PHP-Nuke are both php scripts, they dont run exclusively on linux, i've seen them running on IIS before, its not that difficult. Third, we do need a company to begin integrating everything in linux, Ximian is begining to start that with things in gnome but they are along way aways from it. But i have to ask which would you rather have? a platform where theres known problems with, but they dont get fixed unless they get media attention usually? or one where the patches are out within a day of any problem being found?
