You're not the only one, but doesn't it seem like a meticulous, unnecessary process to setup an organized system like that? And when you come across a file you had not anticipated, the structure changes. The point of something like GDS is so you won't have to remember how you structured your files. It's all there at your fingertips. You just have to remember the context of the document.
Why does every new hard disk mp3 player have to be labeled an iPod competitor? Some of these devices aren't even close to the iPod.
Umm, because they compete with the iPod? That was easy. Next!:-)
I think a more appropriate question is why are so many MP3 players labeled an iPod killer. My personal opinion is because Apple is doing too good a job moving iPods off the shelf. This is the same company that "ruined" their computer business, right? They haven't learned from their past mistakes, right? They only make cute little toys that are neato but have no mass consumer appeal, right?
Wrong. Oops. But that's not stopping "industry analysts" from seconding guess Apple anyway.

Why? Usability. It forces software developers to not dump anything and everything under the right-click contextual menu unless it is necessary. Seems smart, smart, smart to me.... Oh yeah, and if you really want a multi-button mouse for a Mac, just get one. They are supported you know.
Let me repeat. Hardware and software are interchangable. One can be implemented by the other (hardware implementation offers better performance. software implementation is much easier to do). computer development is all about the trade offs between the two. To skip over the software of a computer is to not evalute the entire machine. If you want to do an only hardware to hardware comparison, then you're just cherry picking what you want to compare.
If you're ok with that, then good for you. I'm just pointing out that the results of any such comparison is pretty much useless.
That being said: off the top of my head it looks like the G4 is a bit faster than the Pentium M at the same clock speed (make your own judgement on that). Battery life is quite excellent. Few PC laptops can match iBooks battery life (this may have more to do with software???). Memory management (RAM) is much better on an iBook, but this is again related to software. The built-in wifi card is 802.11g whereas intel centrino is 802.11b. I don't even think there's a fan in an iBook, but if there is one I must be deaf because I can't hear it at all! It's near silent. It's a little under 5 pounds with battery included. Etc, etc, etc. You can check out the specs here. One negative is that the video card is only a Mobile Radeon 9200.
Exactly. Thats the idea. I want to compare hardware only.
Software and hardware are in many ways interchangeable. Pretty much anything implemented in software can be implemented in hardware (and vice versa). A computer without software is uesless. To ignore the software of a computer is to not evaulate the entire computer.
Sorry to hear that. But with all that pent up anger, perhaps it would be better if maybe you just didn't respond to Window users then? Anyway, hope the latter part of today is more cheerful for you.
While I agree with you that Macs simply RULE in regards to usability and software, patronizing Windows users is not the ideal strategy if you wish to make a possible switcher out of them.
You are ignoring the most important part of the computer: the software. There are people who buy Macs solely because of Mac OS X. Battery life is also a huge plus for iBooks (I always get at the very least 4 hours and can push that up to 5.5 hours if I have to).
But in terms of hardware, System Shootout lists a 1.33GHz G4 as the same 1.5Ghz Pentium-M. They're two different architectures, so as always take any such comparisons with a grain a salt.
This DomainKeys system relies on both sending and receiving servers to validate an email, will it ever catch on?
if mail servers start getting bombarded with gmail spam, this is an awfully convenient way to separate spam from legitimate mail coming from gmail addresses.
Gmail Notifier for my system did not update automatically. Rather, an error message (-1 code) popped up saying it couldn't check my mail. I installed the new version myself. Personally, I'd be a bit scared if it did update itself considering I don't *recall* having that setup.
Oh, and I hate the new blue icon. I thought the red icon from before stood out more. Personal preference I suppose.
Just look at the skewed moderation flying around in this very article discussion. It's obvious which party this community leans toward. Both sides have their viewpoints, their evidence, their facts, their proofs. I know a ton of extremely intelligent conservatives who could debate all these left-wing +5 posts off the planet, but they would get modded down by the groupthink going on in this article. This "Politics" section of Slashdot is a bad idea--I'm unchecking it now from my preferences. You'll never have fair coverage here!
I enjoy reading opinions and arguments from all positions, so it is unfortunate you will not be participating any more. Looking at your history, I see your karma went the way of the dodo after only 2 hours of posting, a shame considering your low ID number (38532, wow!).
People, even inteeligent ones, keep denying. How is tha not a fantasy world nad has anything to do tiwh lofty political ideals?
I'm assuming you're referring to the Iraq war. Denying what? Most conservatives I know are well aware of what is happening in Iraq regardless of what the President has said. But interesting enough, they also agree with why Bush has refused to pubically acknowledge the situation. Whether that is the best move for Americans is up for debate.
In a recent study (no link handy as well), it was found of those who listed morals as the No. 1 factor in helping them decide who to vote, 90% supported Bush.
I bring this up only because similar to the study you referenced it is interesting but irrevelvant. Studies relating to politics need to be reviewed with a critical eye.
Both the study I referenced and the study you referenced raises obvious questions. For mine, how does one define morals? For yours, how important are those postions to a Bush supporter anyway?
I may not agree with Bush to a great extent, but I'm not so blind as to conclude his supporters are living in a fantasy world.
if you still support Bush at this point, you must have constructed a very elaborate little fantasy world in your head.
One could argue you're the one living in a fantasy if you truely believe every Bush supporter has "constructed a very elaborate little fantasy world in [their] head." I've met quite a few intelligent people who for one reason or another support Bush. I'm not going to argue one side or another, but I will say just because you may not understand someone else's political beliefs and reasoning does not automatically mean they're living in a "fantasy world." Politics is never black and white (or simple for that matter).
It's quite obvious you're not trying to win over any opinions with statements like that.
Ok, how is this post not flamebait? First, it lumps Taiwan and Hong Kong with China. I can understand Hong Kong, but Taiwan??? It rants on how China has no respect for human rights. Fine, but what does the "brutal occupation of Tibet" have anything to do with Windows piracy???
Let's not even mention the logic problems with the only point of his/her entire rant: Windows is free, Linux is free, so Linux will have a hard time competing. In which I reply that just because Windows is free does not mean people will prefer Windows over Linux, especially when you take into account the security problems Window users are currently experiencing.
But that one point doesn't justify the inclusion of all that extra stuff into the post. Man, the poster must really hate the Chinese. His/her post is overrated at the very least, if not flamebait, offtopic, and trollish all rolled up in one. Mod accordingly.
What is the problem? Speech recognition is a mature technology, and algorithms for speech recognition are well documented in the research journals.... If you want to code some speech recognition software for Linux, just get a good book on C#... and photocopy some relevant papers from the IEEE Transaction journals.
Let's apply your logic on why there isn't a good OS implementation of Java: What's the problem? Java is mature technology and its API is well documented. If you want to code some JRE or Java compiler for Linux, just get a good book on C# and download the API off of Sun's website.
You're reasoning is all wrong. Plus I'm still scratching my head on why you recommended C# over Java on LINUX.
I understand your reasoning, but I think it's a bit flawed. If someone owns property in 50 states should that person have 49 votes over their neighbor? You could extend that logic further. Should someone who has 1000 times more property than the next person be allowed to have 1000 more votes?
The obvious answer (I hope!) is "no" since it gives an unfair advantage to the rich over the poor.
I for one think this whole thing is bullshit. I believe he actually does own the memory card and pretending to have nicked it. What kind of person has the time to play with someone elses memory card? If I found it, I'd just put all of them up at once in a web gallery for all to see. Why the silliness?
This coming from someone who wastes time posting on slashdot.;-) But it looks like the pictures are of someone attending Vanderbilt, not exactly an unknown school. The guy will find out about this blog soon enough (or in your case, he get exposed soon enough)
That sure worked well with Hitler, Napoleon, Lenin, Stahlin [sic], etc.
I hate to break it to you, but to quote your parent, "perhaps you distrust us because you were corrupt in your own history."

Your "friend" is arguing by making an appeal to emotion (argument ad populum). It's a very common fallacy. You can tell him that.
Exactly. Thats the idea. I want to compare hardware only.

I think you misspelled "goat." This is slashdot after all.
don't mean to complain, but why was parent modded down to 0, offtopic while grandparent was modded up to 5, funny?
This DomainKeys system relies on both sending and receiving servers to validate an email, will it ever catch on?

You mean the e-mail I got from BUYYYY_CH33P_M3DZ@gmail.com might not have been authentic!?!?
How did you learn of my brother's screen name???
Gmail Notifier for my system did not update automatically. Rather, an error message (-1 code) popped up saying it couldn't check my mail. I installed the new version myself. Personally, I'd be a bit scared if it did update itself considering I don't *recall* having that setup.

They should act responsiby with that power
Sorry, this isn't Spider-man. This is a business. With great power does not necessarily come with great responsibility.
