If they can figure out how to get an MMO up installed, port forwarded and running with good FPS and low lat, you might want to also try asking your ISP to not allow them to download anything else to "My-book-reports-and-class-notes" which happens to be over 1gig in size...
I am a 23 year old User Experience Architect and I've been working in the IT field since I was 16 years old. Before accepting my current employment, I encountered a firm that was big on age/experience and was comprised of mostly engineers in the 35-40 age bracket who had been working in the industry for 10+ years. I was asked a question almost exactly like the one you postulated.
Using simple math I constructed the following response, which I believe caused the interviewer trouble with the big wigs in the room:
I've been working in IT for about 8 years now of my 23, where as this older gentleman has been working for 15 of his 45. Since we have both been in the industry gathering career experience for the exact same percentage of our life experience, the question should be about quality and adaptability. Not quantity.
You play the game simply for enjoying it. I didn't start playing Spore because it had anything to do with ID, creationism or evolution. I played it cause it looked fun. F-U-N. Ya know that 3 letter word where you really dont care if you are learning anything as long as its enjoyable?
Spore is less of a "game" and more of a sandbox for enjoyment. What Spore is not, is a soapbox.
Read the article from PC Gamer in the September issue if you are interested in the game that Spore actually is and more on the game vs. sandbox concept, instead of what people have decided what they think Will Wright was trying to do.
There are some online importers who still have copies of the game. National Console Support Inc. may have a few copies left, but they have been going fast now that the game has been indefinetly recalled. You might want to check with other importers to see if they have any copies left in stock.
I've got one on the way for delivery tomorrow, cause really I don't give a flying ratass about who's religion is saying what. Less religion, more faith. You all can go argue while im going to get back to waiting to play LBP tomorrow.
Some of the scarier games I have played leave obscene amounts of gore from every hit in the background and instead focus on getting under the player's skin. One of the sudden shudder moments I clearly remember is playing "Eternal Darkness" and suddenly have my character fall to pieces while trying to open a door. The game hinges on a "sanity" concept, the more scared your character is the more strange things will happen to you, i.e. suddenly looking back at the tub that was empty a second ago and seeing your deadbody.
I think the key here is that the game is played from a 3rd person perspective, yet the player still identifies the PC as "them". Playing along and exploring than suddenly seeing myself fall to pieces certainly made my heart skip a beat.
I know that "Aww Gay!" "Dude thats so gay!" is running rampant in the online gaming community. After being accosted by a few friends of mine(RL&IG)of differing sexual orientation, we've gone back to the old days of just saying "Ah fuck" and "Dude! You got fucked!" Cause in essence thats what "Gay!" has become, a replacement "Fuck!".(Wow what a strange sentence)
Why not just go back to saying "Fuck" and not caring if someone thinks you have a lesser command of the english language?
If they harrass you for that, just tell them that...
You[I] have taken up the cause to use "Fuck" in order to minimize the negativity and abuse of someone's sexual orientation by using the word "Gay" as an explitive in order to foster a better virtual reality for all manner of gamer.
How soon will it be before the words we write down and read in our sci-fi novels will be listed? Words such as 'hyper reality' 'time displacement' 'microverse' 'grok!'. And these are only a few with more be created everyday as authors around the globe write down the dreams and designs of our futures. What they write we will eventually do. We've already proven that.
Villian and X-Men. Was one of my favorite characters. Sinister recreated his DNA after his death in the first excursion with the recreated X-Men team against the Mutant Registration Center/Act. Yeah, your right, i am a fanboy:P
You are exactly correct. The current way we attempt to define is far off. We must create a new way to define such intelligence. The current trend now is that itelligence is verifed by a set of intelligent behaviors acting as a system. Your point about learning is also very valid. The human machine is undeniably more powerful than any computer. The problem is so much potential is locked away without any readily accessible keys to fit the locks. This problem is one i am attempting to combat in the future. Biocomputing to unlock the limitless ability of the human creation. The largest problem that we face are arbitary ethics and morals that prevent the evolution of thought, idea and practice. All our creations are dual sided. Everyone of them is a coin. Heads or Tails. Its how you flip it that determines the outcome. 'Human controls preventing otherwise'? Why not 'human controls guiding otherwise'? A codependence may be the best control. One must have the other. DNA Computing and Nanotechnology. Perhaps these would be ways to create a symbiotic relationship...
What I create will be revolutionary. Change the world or destroy it. The choice will be yours....
The dangers of AI rearing its head? Artifical Intelligence is my field of study and I found that the best way to combat the dangers is to let it be AI. Artifical. Fake. A mimic. The truly best AI would be the one guided by a linked real life intelligence. Think of the possibilites of true biocomupting. Throw in nanotechnology and machines...maybe you can become Helios...
Why not invest in the technology now? In a few years someone will say, "Hey do you remember that thing we did a few years ago? Well i got a new idea for it" Its far easier to create something out of something than trying to create it out of nothing. Look at Big Billy. He created an empire out of a program Xerox was about to discard. A robot that can play music is one step closer to creating a robot that can do abstraction. Imagine the possiblities...not to mention the future military application....::strokes chin::
As we have repeatedly seen time and time again in recent events US laws made in the past are being used as the basis for litigation in this digital age. With the Internet growing global position, increasing access, and constantly evolving it may be time to recognize it as such. The Net as we know it, I feel, is a place outside our current reality. It exists in every aspect of our lives affect yet unaffected by our actions. Every user can become another being in the Digital Reality. A high school student can be a highly recognized computer guru, a middle aged women with correct skills can become a rich eccentric gentleman. Every aspect of the personality is transmutable in the Digital Reality. My question is thus, In this engimatic realm can we continue to rely on the laws based on a physical reality or is it time to view the 'Net' as a soveriegn world with laws that must be written?

I wonder what happened to that guy...

That should catch them off guard.

How bout a robotically enhanced army? That gives me the creeps...or ideas...
