You can get the VGM (Video Game Music) files from Zophar's Domain (just go to the music section, they are files dumped from an emulator) and then just download Winamp and the correct plugins to play the files, and/or dump them to WAV files, or WMAs, etc. (you can get plugins for XMMS, too) Although I would absolutely LOOOVE to get the legitly, I just don't have the money, but it is more ethical to get the VGMs than to get pirated CDs.
Do not buy a MP3/CD-R/CDRW player by Emerson. I bought one about five months ago, and it was one of the worst purchases I ever made. First and foremost, it didn't always (actually, seldomly) would play my home-brewn CDs. Also, it claimed support for ID3 tag reading (for mp3s, that is) but it would only display the tag if you had skipped from the previous song to that song.(although, even when it did, it scrolled very slowly) Another really annoying thing was that it claimed CD-RW compatibility, but it would only play CD-RWs on every other burn, (which is a real pain when you're burning at 4x speed) Seriously, they do not manufacture a good portable CD player.
are games that contain illogical content.(I know, it's probably a terrible estimate) And how many games are there that have perfect physics, and are correct logically? You tell me. I would probably say (in my opinion) that for me, it's the logical stuff that appeals to me in a game to a great degree, but it's the illogical that reminds me that it is a game, not real life, and that games are supposed to be fun.
I will be trying to do something a certain way, that I would do with certain pieces, but then, I can't find the pieces, and I take an alternative approach. And then, later, when I find the pieces I wanted to use originally, I realise that the method I used as an alternative was much better!
Once when I was in 13 my "friend" thought I was hacking because I was editing the text file that stores the high scores for Minesweeper on his Dad's Macintosh G3 with Virtual PC. Of course, this was the guy who claimed he did programming with M$ PowerPoint...
A very far cry indeed. Honestly, if you beat the first 3 characters you fight in direct succession, the next person you fight will be landing straight specials! It seems to me that Street Fighter 2's so-called "AI" is simply adding more special moves to the enemy's barrage of attacks, in addition to cheat combos, and making your own moves harder to land, and, perhaps even increasing the speed of the enemy to an extent. Don't get me wrong, I love Street Fighter 2...
has written some of the best video game music in history. I mean, I can just sit and listen to the Final Fantasy 4 soundtrack over and over, even though I have only played the game for a few minutes.
It has been my observation that Public-schooled children are more violent, (generally) than those who have been educated in their own home (like myself) (I'm not trying to condemn public-schooling, it's just that a public school is naturally a more intense, unsheltered environment) I play violent videogames. My younger brothers play violent videogames. And we are all nice guys. Yes, maybe seeing violent images "inspires" people do think about acting violently, but honestly, how many people are going to act like they do in Grand Theft Auto 3, when they know that there is a real force (the Law) that will chase after them? Later he says stuff against pornography, which I agree with but--what does he mention about movies?! He makes it sound like the MPAA does it right, but ESRB sucks. Why not simply prohibit the selling of mature games to minors? They do that with movies, (R-rated, that is) and Mr. McBride seems to think that works just great, (well, he doesnt say anything against that) and I think that it would be okay.
Talking of games with a long life due to mods...look at Super Mario Bros....There are at least 70 (I counted 74...) hacks of it (the ROM image, that is) available at Zophar's Domain! Some of which featuring: Final Fantasy 1's Black Mage, Spiderman baddies, Link, and drunk russian Mario!
Yes, being unjustly biased against games is just a bunch of crap, and I wish it would stop. Yet, people keep saying that they're addictive, violent, unwholesome, etc. What about books? I know there's a lot of crap out there in literature, and yet, parents are proud of their kids when they continuously are reading "Animorphs", "Secret of Droon", etc., and for what reason? "Oh, it improves his/her reading skills". Ahem. You do reading in video games. (Okay, Doom, or other games don't contain very much text in them at all, but consider RPGs, for one genre) But then they argue the crap about violence and addiction and games inspiring people to do bad things and all of that.
Books contain all of these things. My own Mother, one who isn't all that pleased with video games admits to being addicted to reading books. And there are certainly more books out there than games, and books contain many more kinds of things in them, (good or bad) whether it be fiction or non-fiction, and yet, in their eyes, books are good, video games are bad. Now, I'm not trying to condemn books in any way--all I'm saying is that books contain the same stuff that they are condemning video games for.
"That includes forcing us to use a BIOS that will only "trust" their OS and thus render most hardware useless except for Windows." And when that time comes, it is time to flash your BIOS!
It will teach kids that whoever conceived the idea for this game had an idiotic idea and/or is an idiot. Honestly, do they think that because they played a game where they cracked down on music "piracy" that it's going to influence them not to use Kazaa, or WinMX for sharing mp3s? I personally doubt it. Just like when they play Doom it's going to teach them to take their Dad's shotgun and kill mister former sergeant down the road (an army veteran) because of their Doom experience.
Now, when they say "why not to windows mod hard drives" Do they mean making a window mod on your case? (I hate it when people call the case that holds the computer the "hard drive"!) Or, do they mean not to make a window mod to your actual 80 GB Hard disk? Or do they mean not to install M$ Windows on your computer? I know any of the above could have certain negative affects...
I think it's all well and good as practice for web publishing, if it is using HTML/XML, JavaScript, Java, PHP, etc. (!VB.NET) But I have not seen many of that kind. All I see are these stupid WYSIWYG wastes of server space.

I always listen to the FF4 soundtrack when I'm coding. It produces superior programs.

one reason to use Linux instead of UNIX: Because I like it.

I am almost positive my first was from Megaman 5. I'm not sure which one, though...

And then, they'll have the person they crashed and the IDSA trying to sue their pants off!
I learned when I was 12, and my younger brother was 11 when he learned, and I think it's an excellent skill to have, too. It's not hard, either...

That's what I thought would happen, what with the Gamecube price drop. I hope this next one can play DVDs, etc.
I think that any system that has a game that is worth playing is worth getting. When it comes to gaming, I just want to play the fun games.
I have a younger sister who has a newspaper addiction--no kidding! Actually it's only the comics, but...
If anybody wants it early, just try Amazon. I know of instances where they have shipped stuff a day early!
I say that it all depends on the quality of the characters and plot.
Everyone's fear is predicated upon their Star Trek experience, I think.
