this is why linux cannot fight the evil gate,
the linux communty is just plain too geeky.
Gate is a marketing guy, he lissen to what USER wants. If they want fast boot, fast shutdown, they shall have it. And common user do not have a server or download around the clock. people like my parents shutdown the computer when they do not use it, because the joy of the rumming fan is not exactly melody to their ears.

as you may or may not know, first nation natives are allowed to trade goods according to theire original laws (no tax)

So just find a couple of local natives reserve and ask them to order a shit load of blank cdrw from tawain (cost a few pennies) and load them here on a boat (a few pennies again), et voila!

Seriously, the ISP tax would kill the music industry. People tend to use as much as they pay for. i.e.: who does not pig them self out at the buffet (eat-all-what-you-can-restaurants)

THE reason why RIAA always attack the minors.. the reason is as easy as ABC:

    A) Children don't know what they are doing
    B) Parents are responsible for their childrends felony
    C) Parents have money

On the other hand, the average ungrad and college student will go to the full trial, loose the darn case, go bankrup and get away with a free rid from their tuition fees in the same time.

" So technically if novel run Linux on any non Intel CPU they are fine, AMD and PowerPC are fine alternatives.

    >3. For mp3 players, it depends
    >4. For CD-R, DVD-R/w, the industry defines 1024 MB = 1 GB
    >5. For USB flash drives, the industry defines 1000 MB = 1 GB.

  15. What would happend in a free world with no (c) on British Court Issues Bizarre Copyright Ruling · · Score: 1, Insightful

Would it be wonderful if the copyrights do not exist at all? Would End users would be much happier, and copyright owner with starve to death?

Imagine if we erase all laws and we rebuild them from scratch but we omit the (c) laws.

Everything you create can me taken by someone else, but then again you can use the knowledge/creation of someone else: your initial effore is less and you are rewarded by a free upgrade someone else made for you(isn't that the essence of science btw? the one which alowed mand to fly and go high above? Imagine the horror if someone patened Newtons gravity theory? would we all have to flot in the void of space?).

    (c) holders argue that there are "no free lunchs". But paying the lunch can happend in different ways. After all money is just a "almost timeless storable value of your effort." So if you take the work of someone and ad alitle which will be taken, you got no free lunch, the time value is transfered into a colective work.

Hey but this would allow creativity, everyone enhance the work of the other which will be ehnanced. (yes, it sound like GPL but GPL would not exist in a no (c) world because it would not be needed)

What is happening now, you are sue for this and for that. Soon you will no longer be able to whistle a beat you like with out being sued. All the strees just to go though the license agreement before you can boot your computer. You are woried about being sued more thant contributing to the society or enjoying the timevalue you have stored.

Some will argue, who will put all his time working less to enjoy the future enhencement of his inigtion? Who would create songs and story to be an anonimous donor?

Let me ask you a question, who wrote all those folk fary tales with countless ages? who wrote the songs that tell mankind history since the old days. People are willing to create. (c) hinder better enhancement. Patten on a unbuild technology forcing a small company who invest heart and sweat to make it happend for real should be criminal, not the reverse.

Well that is what i have to say.

Let me direct you to picture of "The Laws of Demand and Supply 101" paragraph of Powershift - Oil, Money, & War. (it is basic financial economic knowledge i want to point out, although the article is interesting ;) )

The theorie is that people willing to pay at price is equal to Q -- P=Q (Price=Quantity). Also a portion of below P or a Quantiy P will be found in the "black Market".

Unlike traditional goods, software can be produced in unlimited quantity at near zero cost. therefore the entire triangle beyond (P,Q) is furfilled. The Good news is that you have twice as much customer (2x triagle or a full box from (0,0) to (P,Q). In other world, your sales are more that the double of what you find on kazaa. ;)

The ultimate proof is that M$ product are on kazaa as RIAA product are, but neither are broke.

If HP makes HP-UX the odds that HP lawyers are aware of the Open Group License are good! Since they are UNIX95 Registered, Then the obvious reason why they said they are safe is safe against SCO is that they could probably defend that point.

So who is the suspect? Is it just a wording twist saying Microsoft is behind it again? Microsoft is after all a Fortune 500 too.
