Not knowing all that much of the English political system I would have thought a minority government was a good thing. In Denmark the difference between a minority and majority government is basicly whether the other 50-64% get any say at all.
An also the votes aren't really discarded when you vote for parlament. Nomatter who get's "majority" the representation in parlament is still a reflection of the voters oppinion.
I could be wrong, I know that we have a very advanced voting system compared to other countries, but I thought the English sytem was somewhat similar.
These numbers proves pretty well that you have to go to the extremes to fight IE. Firefox is FREE and is trying to trow out all the features it can grab just to have 7%. IE on the other hand is just halfheartedly updated with critical securyti fixes.
If Opera had a markedshare of 20%, then maybe you could say that DOJ was wrong, but as it is now he's right.
Fair competition is not when the competitors have to do pricedoges as big as 100% even when having the better product.
So what you are saying is that security has NOTHING to do with the actual software but that viracoders just sid down, stair at the OS for 2hours and WHOOPs a new virus apears....
Popularity does not bread security flaws. How many times does it have to be pointed out? Look at apache vs ISS. If your teory was right Apache should be more insecure because more use it, however it isn't.
Diseases don't come from popularity. Britney Spears has avoided aids eventhough she's popular.
Diseases come from not using protection, if Microsoft cared to build their software with condoms preinstalled there wouldn't be problems.
The ideer that "vira is common so we don't have to do nothing" is old and out of date.
If they charged more for Longhorn to fund the battle of security that would be fine, but to try n charge extra is just plain evil. It also makes it economically stupid to fix ANY future security flaws in the OS, and ofcause puts a potential gain in putting in costum securityholes.
I wonder how long it will be before other antivirus software magically stops working and the MS stuff comes prebundled with their OS.
You are totaly right, so we should stop pointing out the flaws and just run around naked. All countries have idiots, so why aspire to be anything better?
It may be limited but as it is shown, it's still capeble of both being installed without your knowlage, and after that installing varies other widgets by sending you to webpages when you try to view dashboard.
Not a serius security treat or anything, but very annoying and very IE like.
If you made a simple "ring" of widgets with names similar to the standart widgets you could succede in making the average user reboot several times just to remove it(Reminds me of MS spyware).
Well the widgets are rather "remote". At least 50% of them are pulling stuff from the internet.
However there are problems with the dashboard/safari integration beyond this.
Since it runs both ways(The extended usebility of widgets is supported in safari) there is potentiel for some IE like *BLAM spamware en mase* situations.
Hopefully this will wakeup someone at apple and they'll cut the ties between safari and dashboard. And fix auto install to propt while they are at it.
I'm not genrelizing based on the article just pointing out my own subjective opinion. I run quake3 in graphis so horible most people can't even see it's quake when i play multiplayer.
For singleplayer sure environment lights graphics and the lot are all needed. But multiplayer is where quake2 and 3 where best to me. And in multiplayer I don't need shadow, in Counter Strike maybe. But then only because the gameplay is extremely slow during tournament play. Quake's more about speed, or rather used to be with Counter Strike dominating the gaming scene quake3 gamers have started being more and more "tacticle" camping mapareas and securing armourspawns. But to me that's just plain wrong.
I may not be the average player(Dropping all the effects and such) but surely multiplayer will be the win/lose condition for quake 4. Doom 3 died in 2 days or less because people coun't stand playing multiplayer. It was boring, slow, without consept and extremely slow(Both due to the graphics and the gameplay). Quake 4 will without doubt be played by the fanbase but will it live as long as Counter Strike? That's what I'm interested in.
Am I really the only one thinking: "screw the lighting and effects, I'm turning them off anyway"
For me Quake is about gameplay not graphics. Even when running the lowest possible graphicsmode(Wich I alwas do) it still fun.
How are they going to change the gameplay? more open areas in the standart mappack isn't going to do it.
People moved away from quake to Counter Strike because of the different and more tacticle gameplay. Will Quake4 try to be a little more tacticle and less "chaotic"?
How is it different gameplay wise, that's the important question. Not if whether brighter or darker.
People are also starting to podcast all sorts of crasy stuff, like videos. Making vLogPodcasts. (And screwing up my playlists with videofiles).
RSS is just another great way of distributing news. Expecially podcasting it with simple programs you just keep running so then down anything new when it arives.
Internally in companies I can see the usage as a "message of the day" sort of thing where anything everyone needs to se is posted. Instead of cluttering up peoples inboxes it's all gathered a centrel spot and people can update by browsing the RSS feed.
Given that this will undoubtedly annoy more then it helps. I would like a feature that you could turn on and off(deafult to off) for letting it do this.
It would be kinda neat to just pop in the DVD and have it play when on my tvlinked pc, since I never really put a DVD in it for other reasons then watching it.
Another thing I like in videoplayers is hiding ALL the options... (default to off ofcause).
using xine on Linux really got me loving the idea of running without that irritating floating positionbar, and just having all the options in a righclickmenu on the playing movie. Then it just needs to run without the titelbar and you have a practical way of watching something in small window without it using up 2/3 of the screen.
This conversation leads me to a much more interesting test. Set up a cuple of intelligent people to randomly "take over" conversationes that ALICE would otherwice conduct and see whether the people on the other end realice it.
Can intelligent people conviningly act like a machine?
"trolling flamebait" right back 'at ya.a Do you ever hear that little voice shouting sarcasm in the back of your head when OBVIUS is staring you in the face?
My guese is you do but find it more amussing to skip the laughter in favor of a flamewar. Crawl back down your cave.
I think you miss the whole point of 9/11. It's US(the coporate world) against THEM(People who live in caves and apparently haven't got any nulearweapons).
If Microsoft DIDN'T make money off of this, the terrorists would be winning!!
"However, its implementation(Apples) is not as universal as what Microsoft is proposing."
So what does this really mean? Apple already does this but Microsoft promises to NOT ONLY do exactly the same, but have improved uppon the ideer by their next release.
We have an OS versus a Proposal. How can it be they declare the proposal the winner? By that time chances are OSX will have evolved just a tad bit. It takes less time to develop a feature already implimenten then it does starting from the bottom. Even if you do have somthing to copycat.
You are saying that you would trust the government to use the money in good intentions rather then google, on the grounds that google intend to spend them in good intentions?
This is just expanding the "don't be evil" policy to "Be good" wich can't really hurt anyone(Exept 3legged kittens apparently).
Besides google cant stabilice an intire economy on it's own, even if it does decide to pay more taxes then it rightfully should.
Drop shadow? cmon. I want Transparency, 3D transparency with live wobble effects.
Advanced physics rendering(Timedilation is on the top of that) groundbreakting 4D sound and cute livelike figures telling me where to click.
I want to be able to see 2 movies fullscreen at 70% transparency and have word crashing beneath it all, while I'm searching for the cach of my lost documents with the all new and inovative desktopsearch.
Sure it ain't productive but if I wanted to be productive I wouldn't have an internetconnection.
This is somewhat off topic but after discovering the vlog I've come to love their attitude towards adds.
They show the adds at the end of the videoclips so If I don't want to see it, I'm on my way.
However since the adds they show are all pretty funny(Like those who occationally get shiped round the interweb) I watch them anyway.
Can't say if it's effective marketing since I haven't actually bought any of the things adverticed, but the concept I quite like.
The perky smart alarm clock will monitor your brainwaves and constantly roll away from you. Making it imposible to turn off without the aid of shootgun.

First he creates the industry then he enters it. Next on CNN Mac's start busting in flames Apple offers subscription antieksplosion software.

"Anyway, isn't the idea that a good AI is indistinguishable from a female just a little bit.... sexist?"
Actually the idea is that a good AI is indestinguisable from a lieing man(claiming to be female). Not sure if this makes it less sexist however.
