    actually studies have shown there are statistically significant variations of intelligence between races, however the variations are only significant in aggregate because they are smaller than variations between individuals.


    the studies do give insight into possible genetic causes to differences in standardized testing scores and things like that.

    if they can't update the firmware over the air then explain to me how it was that i updated my phone by calling a service number and selecting the option to update the firmware on my phone. after that the crashing issue i was having went away.

    I rip CD's when i get them so i rarely have to deal with scratched CD's and my drive is good enough that normally i get pristine rips with plain old read overlap.

    the difference between streaming and transfer is a transfer will verify completion and correctness of the file, a stream just keeps going and ignores transmission errors because the point is to play music not to send a perfect copy

    there is also music recorded for hire, such as a movie producer wanting original music for the film, or a video game needing a good sound track.

    try swapping VLC in for MPC and KL-CP. everything is internal so no random bullshit when a game installs an odd video renderer and suddenly you cna't watch movies

    google could tell adobe to sod off, more likely it's to avoid future format conflicts and IIRC encrypted PDF's only work with acrobat reader (legally)

    the fact that keeping WINDOWS in proper working order is a lot of work is exactly the problem.

    in a properly designed system pebkac related issues should be limited to the home directory.

    Two counters right next to each other, to generate the pad one of the counters inverts the bit it is at, the other advances the current position by one. in theory you will get a nice random stream from this and just increase the power of your radiological source to speed up production of random data

    to be clear that is 1% net after everything, it doesn't mean that for a $100 purchase the store gets to use $1, but after paying for electricity, employees, rent, taxes, and damaged goods the store grows by $1

    walmart has very thin margins too, that is the only way they stay as big as they are. unlike markets such as cell phones and software, in a retail market you have to stay cheap or stay good, you can't grab all the market share and coast for 10 years. If you try at the end of that 10 years you will be facing bankruptcy and possible shareholder lawsuits.

    it looks that bad because it is being scaled up, if you display at 320x200 with giant, blurry TV pixels it will look much better than blown up to 1024x768 or 1280x1024 computer monitor pixels

    NTSC television is 525 lines interlaced so while 320 x 200 progessive isn't great it isn't some crime against nature either.

    preferrring a prototype, but allowing a schematic would put far less into the courts, if someone submits a schematic anyone could challenge the patent at the USPTO by demonstrating to a patent examiner that the schematic cannot produce a working device, the original filer would be then given 30 days notice to prove the challenger wrong or the patent is nullified. obviously in this system an actual prototype would be the best but if that was not possible it wouldn't prevent an inventor lacking resources from protecting his or her work as long as it actually works.

    in requiring a workable schematic, a challenger could invalidate the patent by showing that the schematic does not function
