if the malware is already on your computer it can open an outgoing connection to whoever wishes to pwn your boxen, the only real issue would be an FTP server virus for warez groups.
The reason there is no outbound blocking is because XP Firewall is for the average user. Not the average Slashdot user. The average user can't determine whether Claria should be given internet rights or not. We know better.
if Claria is asking you for permission you must immediately surrender your Slashdot ID for installing it in the first place
that explains the odd behavior of my antivirus software and control program, the service actually talks to the control app tusing TCP/IP on localhost, i don't recall why they switched it from the old method of communication but i think it was because TCP/IP has error handling so the scanner and control app would be notified if a message failed to get through for some reason.
i suspect that some people with low UIDs have each other on thir friends lists, and with a bonus set to friend posts are more likely to see the threads
sexual harassment is only a liability to the company if they ignore complaints, a lawsuit about another employee saying something offensive won't get far unless the boss doesn't care or it was the boss doing the harassing
i'm sure that if you had hundreds of feet clearance while driving automobiles would be easier to drive than aircraft, when in a plane, most navigation and procedures can ignore everything except the cockpit, you don't have to worry about clipping someone going around a corner or running into a parked car, you also don't have little children flying up in front of planes.
simple solution, invest in a corporation which buys the patens off the original holder, while never using a microsoft product (running operations on either Mac or *nix) then they sue microsoft, and any profits from the lawsuit are paid as dividends, while i know such shell games are frowned upon, a situation like this does justify such action.
actually it was attached to the original which detects if it a warezed copy then steals bandwidth/airtime from the owner of the phone in order to report back.
well it would be assumed that the cracked version would be stripped of the eula, so no it would still be illegal, just as it would be illegal for a windows EULA to say "If windows detects attempts to pirate 1-900 numbers will be called by your modem."
and it is still a virus which should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, it is not legal to make software which detects cracking attempts and harms the user as "punishment"
i have seen plenty of asshattery while taking hour walks down to the village, i often carry a glass bottle or unopened soda can in case of excessive asshattery, *wham*
I think a court ruling that I cannot distribute the code (for example, my offices and actions are frozen by the court during a federal investigation) would superceed the lowly GPL in that case (indeed, as carrying out the obligation would land me in contempt of court and potentially with a criminal record for such).
That part does not mean that you must continue distributing the source code if ordered not to, it means that you must not distribute the binary after being ordered to stop distributing the source.
i would say that an AI that can beat a human for their first year is pretty damned good.
actually the english language word was googol

They should just make a www.911.com, and if you go there then a firetruck, ambulance, and police car come to whereever you are.
oh great another link for the trolls to post to slashdot and cause trouble.
her boobs were blowup? well they must have been underinflated when they came out during the superbowl.

the auto-reboot is windows XP catching the Blue Screen and rebooting, there is a way to disable it.

nibbles still lives on the TI graphing calculators. available for all or almost all models on ticalc.org
Mod me down. I think you deserve to be sued if you rip off music.
I agree entirely, let's start with suing P. Diddy for ripping off everyone else's music.

Hardly what I'd call a virus...
I agree, i would call it a trojan rather than a virus

except that the katie.com domain was registered BEFORE the book existed, while falwell.com was registered AFTER jerryfalwell.com was created
