RISC processors are a lot more efficient, both with speed and power than a CISC processor. A RISC processor can have a similar performance to a CISC processor with a lot lower clock speed and therefore less power consumption. This makes them particularly good for mobile systems(i.e. iPOD).
IIRC i read that the new iPod will be moving to use 2 ARM9 processors, instead of the current set up(2xARM7 and a ARM9). ARM9 processors are generaly 'quicker' than XScale processors, not necessarily more MHz but like for like, ARM performs better! (trust me i work for ARM)!!!
I can confirm that SMS's to London do get through. I have txted my friend who works on liverpool street, she replied saying she was fine, which was a huge relief.
We have had this in th UK for at least a year now. Dial 2580 hold it up near a speaker, it automatically disconnects after 20 seconds. A minute or so later u recieve an SMS with the name of the song and the artist.
Its great when u want to cheat in a pub quiz.
I've always wondered how it works, pretty damn clever if you ask me!
You can get your weather. I'm looking at my local weather(East Midlands) on my personalised google site right now. And surprise, surprise its raining!!!!
Just type your post code in the box where it says zip code!
I do electronics at uni, and i seem to remember a nice diagram showing the various resistances in a human body. IIRC the resistance from one hand to the other(across the heart) is about 1K.
The IEE regulations(?) state that 55V can be lethal at this resistance. Due to this we aren't allowed to work with more than 55V DC without a second person being present who has been trained in CPR. These rules are very strict and if you break them you can be kicked out of the uni.
When my friend was playing LaserQuest he walked round a corner and got a gun in the face from someone who was running(when they shouldnt have been) he had his 2 front teeth knocked out!!! So you can see why the rules are there!
Sounds pretty cool, but i doubt there will ever be a way to completely get rid of spa unless the governments pass laws, and an international body is set up to prosecute spammers. Making the risk too high for them to bother doing it.
I'm currently studying for a masters degree in Electronics and Software Engineering, this course is sponsored by ARM. I have been to the ARM main office and they are a very cool company and they treat their employees very well.
Is it just me or are there a LOT of april fools on/. this year?? I'm sure there hasn't been this many in previous years. Is the internet developing a better sense of humour?
About time... question is will Micro$oft choose to conform to the standard or just keep going as they are, unless these 'standards' are legally binding!!
It'll take a lot of work to make windows secure!!
No operating syatem is completely secure anyway, there are always some 'undocumented features'
I think this is what you are talking about!! Very funny!

I'm not sure about not using the free condoms, oh wait... this is slashdot, sorry!
breasts?
To attack within 16 hours of the announcement, on this scale?? I don't think thats likely this would take many months of planning.
So SMS's are getting through.
Who modded parent insightful?? waste of mod points if you ask me!
Is it just me or have i missed the point. A virtual OS is something running under something like VMWare??? How is this news???

Not only that, Pro Evo 4 has acquired the licence to IIRC 6? european leagues, so it will be even better!!
Oh the hours i've wasted on that game, bit worried that PES4 is going to be better, i need to get some work done at uni!!!

So if i was to "hack" into your t-shirt, i could put any images i want on it. Sounds interesting, could be a lot of fun!!!!
Why not outlaw IRC and web browsers too. There's as much copyrighted material distributed via these forms too!

I think you're having difficulty here understanding a concept called Sarcasm?
I just hope when i finish my degree i'll be one of the richer!!
At last a good excuse to play games at work ;)

Lucky the PDA don't run on any windows-based stuff, now a Blue Screen Of Death at 1000ft could be a problem!
Scare-mongering anyone???
