I wouldn't really recommend an Archos product anymore.

I first had an Archos Jukebox 6000. It started turning off and I had to re-solder some connections and bend the battery springs. The firmware also sucked but fortunately at RockBox fixed that.

Then I got a Gmini 220. I had to return the first one because the hard drive was bad. On the second one there are occasional skips and corruption even though the hard drive is fine. The buttons sometimes don't work and sometimes one acts as another. The FM remote misbehaves and crashes in various ways. When listening through the remote I also hear the remote backlight, display scrolling and hard drive spinups. The firmware has bugs and it crashes or misbehaves once in a while and it seems there will never be any alternative firmware. I've had dropouts in recordings. The software for maintaining the optional database it totally broken, but fortunately there is a free alternative. The screen is of very low quality and anything displayed at one point changes the brightness of the entire column. I also had to repair the headphone jack. No, the Gmini 220 is not unusable but I suggest getting a better product.

The only web pages that should be excluded from the results are worthless spammy pages that are just used to generate traffic. Other than that returning less results is a bad thing. When searching for something that returns few results having more results obviously helps a lot. It might seem to be a problem when something returns a lot of results but sorting the results according to quality (like Google tries to do with PageRank) is better than just dropping some.

Where I mentioned credibility I meant in the context of convincing people to oppose implanted chips. There it definitely matters. Many people would have doubts about an organization which insists that the chips would be the mark of the beast, yet they would agree with other reasons against them. For example look on Slashdot.

  12. Re:Just a "health chip"? on Former Health Secretary Pushes for VeriChip Implants · · Score: 1

IMHO that should be modded funny. Saying that the Mark of the Beast is an implanted chip is a very unreasonable interpretation of Revelations. Read the passage and then think about it. The idea that those who accept an implanted chip would be tortured eternally for it is even more crazy. Then there's the question of whether Revelations talks about the Roman Empire or some future events, and how literally it was meant to be taken. Plus, those who are not Christian should be wondering if it's all random psychotic rambling. Attempts to oppose implanted chips for privacy and other reasons should never be linked with such ideas. They could only destroy credibility.

Have you ever used a bunsen burner or any sort of gas burner where the amount of air coming in can be adjusted? The flame changes as the amount of air coming in changes. If no air comes in you get a long flickering bright yellow flame. If the proper amount of air is coming in you get a stable blue flame with well-defined cones inside it. I suspect that they are using the same effect.

In the case of a hydrocarbon gas flame an improperly adjusted burner can burn the gas incompletely and produce carbon monoxide and other nasty stuff. Since they're burning hydrogen they don't have to worry about that and they can let people adjust the flame so it looks nice.

Yeah, I guess you're right. It's not like those misspellings really infringe on the Google trademark because they're different, and domain names are basically property.

I thought having to hand over those domains was a good thing because the typosquatters are trying to make easy money using basically a negative contribution to society. Now I reallize that this sort of thing is a slippery slope.

I guess a better (and also more truly capitalist) solution would be to create browser extensions which correct typos. If someone finds the typosquatters annoying they can just use such an extension.

Why wouldn't there be smells in a vacuum? Various chemicals are evaporating from the comet and those can be detected in some way. If anything, the lack of a whole lot of air around them makes detection easier. Of course you'd want to use a different sensor, or maybe collect a sample and smell that in a nicer environment. It is important to remember that the invasion of Iraq motivated more people to join terrorist organizations. It's not like there is a certain number of terrorists out there and we just need to defeat them. As Israel has found out the supply is virtually inexhaustible.

Some people say the war in Iraq is a part of the war on terrorism but it's actually something else. It has mainly helped terrorists by pissing off more people and providing an unstable country which can be used as a base.

The war in Afganistan and internal security measures can be helpful against terrorism, and I don't remember any large attacks in retaliation for that.
