A composite lifting body design is expensive when you can't guarantee resuability. And we all know how the reusability of the Shuttle turned out.

It's also rather difficult to completely eliminate vibrations from a solid rocket without an advancement in the manufacturing process used to create the fuel.

The only private enterprise I am currently aware of that has any chance at the moment is SpaceX. However SpaceX's dragon capsule is not designed to get us back on the Moon or to reach Mars.

Wing Commander I could never get myself into as much as I tried. The only WC I managed to fully play was Prophecy which was fairly different than the older Wing Commander games.
It definetly was! The epic scale of the book, a conflict spanning a whole galaxy was incredible. I don't know how a movie could capture that to be truthfull... Even Star Wars didn't feel as epic. Not to mention the timescale of the book, with time jumping forward by decades at a time.

Because, as awe inspiring and amazing as the Saturn series was, our modern rockets are cheaper and more efficient to use.
And repeat the whole shuttle fiasco, the US will be left with inefficient space systems for another 30 years...

Independence War 2 and Freelancer's prequel Starlancer are great games too! Although they are single player...
