I find gentoo to be a great distribution, while some people might say they are 1337 by installing it, its a rather simple installation where you just follow the instructions. And I love it because of how minimalistic it is, I install what I want and nothing that I don't want. That's what I love about gentoo!
Yeah, in my opinion the best is gentoo, although its been a pain in the ass getting certain things working correctly, it's great as a desktop OS for me and allows me to start with a minimal installation and pick and choose what I want for it.
As far as performance, i have found gentoo linux to be remarkable. Everything is just zippy, although its been a pain getting my nvidia drivers working under kernel 2.6.9. Granted im using a 2.53ghz pc... im hoping it will run almost as fast on my 700mhz G3 ibook. Anyone have any experience with gentoo on a G3 laptop? Or would another distro be better for performance?
Discovery Channel also branched out into different channels such as Discovery Wings, Discovery Times, Discovery Science, and Discovery Health.
I personally keep my TV glued on Discovery wings almost 24/7:D

You could always try out gentoo, it happens to be very easy to install apps with portage, and it is very speedy too.
