Anyone else see that star that goes right through the area of the blackhole without even a flinch? I was under the impression black holes like to eat stars for breakfast/lunch/second lunch/dinner. Or maybe they're friends?
I've seen a few posts already that are saying Microsoft is getting better. They fail to see the pattern here. Microsoft makes a product, consumers cry and whine, Microsoft fixes it in 5 or so years, happy-happy-joy-joy until...OH another problem.
It was the same then, and it'll be the same now and onward with Microsoft. They don't actively work to solve problems before an outcry, they wait for the outcry.
This is responsive thinking, and I don't like it one bit. I want a forward thinking company behind the software I use. A company that doesn't just wait until everyone hates their software before fixing it.
Let me quote the article "'It kind of hits people up here,' Thomlinson said, pointing to his head. 'Things are different when a group of programmers watches their actual code exploited. It kind of hits people in the gut.'"
Wait...where are you? A Microsoft run event? WOW! Maybe just MICROSOFT programmers are doing this...
I don't want someone who acts like this making the software I use/buy. Someone who refuses to believe thier software is broken until they see it. HELLO!! The millions of people being infected as a result of unpatched issues in your software should have been clue enough.
"Oh hey, our software really can be exploited! Man...that sucks...think we should do something about it?"
I don't think this was stressed enough in the comments. Passwords are useless beyond home security. If you need real security you need to go beyond passwords. But for 90% of people, passwords that are familiar but non-dictionary based, possibly written down in a safe place, will do just fine. No need to worry about any of the parent's comments except when you use a public computer (never use a public computer to enter ANY passwords, period).
And don't make any enemies...
I've heard many horror stories about AOL's spam "protection." They've blocked many legit email address just because people accidently clicked the "spam" button.
So AOL email, on the paid accounts, is useless. How is the free account going to be any better? Especially since anyone can grab a GMail account just as easily.
Anyone remember that common example of bad stats?
Some survey was taken by calling people randomly. What's wrong with it? You're excluding everyone without a phone (which is now rare, but the poor didn't have them when this survey was done).
Isn't this exactly the same? You're excluding everyone without spyware. Hey, maybe males are more likely to get spyware on their computers than females?
After reading the/. message I knew this had to be bull flop, so I read the article to be sure. Lo and behold...IT IS!
Ok, maybe it's the article's lack of details that makes me think that. "Artifical Chromosomes"? Hello! DNA != Machine code. They're two different things. On at least one level DNA is reactive while machine code is simply executed from point A to B.
This "mysertious" new code will give rise to machines that can do everything we have ever hoped for? Wow...amazing. Sorry for being sarcastic, but really. This is like I, Robot. In the movie the robots had phantom errors in their code and the big heady scientist predicted that this would lead to evolution. This article sounds exactly like that. Some new feature is supposed to lead to the rise of what we all hoped for, and I don't believe one cent of it.
Ok, so that's done. Moving on. Robots reproducing? How? A machine can only do what it was built to do, and since there machines are built to make themselves (they only have some special chromosome;) ), they can't reproduce.
And faking feelings is nothing new. Anyone with Visual Basic can make a program that "feels" angry, sad, happy, etc.
I'm not seeing it, folks. Maybe this was just for laughs and giggles?

My friend got some emails with the subject "hello" an attachment with the extension.scr(can't remember file name) and the message body was full of non-alphanumeric garbage. One of the emails came from feedback@something.whatever.com(can't remember domain).
Is this the same virus, because the message body is certainly not the same? Maybe the online web-email messed with the body somehow, though I doubt it. If I can get a hold of one of those emails I'll check the filesize to see.
The G-Man, comeon, he wouldn't do that he is suppose to protect the secrets of Half-Life. If anything, he is out there killing us all for downloading the source, I mean, if he was the G-Man I know he'd be walking up the stares of the real leaker right now...
Ok, let's pretend this is anything close to HL2's source and could be used to start creating hacks. I'll put in my 5 cents. I don't think this can be used to hack. Valve knows what this is, and I'm sure that if it is a hacking threat, they'll do whatever it takes to make this source invalid. It shouldn't be hard to make teh data aquired from this source invalid.
So, I don't think we'll get any hacks from this, nothing too bad methinks. Maybe a couple of hacks for 1 player mode, but multiplayer, valve just wont let that happen.
To Adam and/or Jamie: How do you feel making this show has impacted you, in any way? Is it something you're proud of and really enjoy doing?
