While you make some decent points, you have no idea how to survive "on the street". Who are the last people you see when something bad happens? The cops, that's who. They aren't sworn to protect you as you'd like to think and you can't sue them if you get hurt except under VERY specific circumstances and they aren't there to protect you no matter how many times you've reported someone. You see them when someone has done something to you but when was the last time they came to your aid WHEN YOU NEEDED IT??? I'm betting they were no where to be seen. Saying or acting like you're gonna run tell the cops about something someone did will simply get you killed. No questions asked. Snitches get Stitches, is the rule on the streets.
I had my share of bullies and we reported every violation to the police and do you know what the police did, no matter how incredibly serious the offense was? Nothing. They talk to their parents and the parents ground, beat, yell at or even PRAISE them, and then they come back to give you more shit. Know how I dealt with them in the end? One day they were throwing snowballs at a huge picture window on our house and I grabbed my compound bow w/broadhead(that's a deadly razor on the end of an arrow if you don't already know) and put the "bead" on my target making him(the instigator) fully aware that I was now in control. The only thing that really kept him from actually dying that day was that the wind blew our storm door into the bow and it knocked the arrow off the rest...the bully saw it and attempted to charge me but was made acutely aware, as he was running up the steps of our porch, that all I had to do was pull the arrow off the bow and use it like a spear or knife...his face turned white and they dispersed with a quickness. They'd try to ambush me at other times and they'd discover I had stilettos, butterfly knives, and even compasses(the kind you use for geometry class) and they all drew lots of blood if used. By my senior year of school, they were content with leaving me alone and even attempting to buddy up with me on occasion.
Hey, I'm HIGHLY curious about this. Do you have a cite? They are probably talking about ayuasca(sp) or maybe ibogaine and if so I was unaware of this decision.
Oh, I know I should have said "lost" in quotes...cause, yes, it's already lost the moment you use it. And I'm not sure what could be done about cheaters, etc. but if you(general "you", not you specifically) run your own server then such things as keeping your software up-to-date, etc. to prevent such things are at the top of your list(or need to be). Maybe a server that has a plugin system that checks a main repository and downloads cheat prevention plugins as they come available, the administrator can then heed/disallow as s/he so desires. A live database of cheaters and their IP addresses, etc. might be good too but would be prone to abuse much like having a monopoly.
I personally have been against ANY online game that charges money for the online portion of gameplay in addition to the price you pay for the game itself. If you put $300 into playing such a game and suddenly you get a threat of termination notice, you have in essence had all that money held hostage and it's a very real monetary threat to realize you lose all the time AND money. If they then terminate you, you can either go elsewhere or, as most who are addicted to such games do, create a new account and start giving money to the game nazis again. If you don't create a new account you have a piece of software that you legitimately paid for that you can't use. This is why I am for running individual servers like for Unreal, etc. because even if you get kicked off one server there are hundreds/thousands more that will let you join and usually for free; no monopoly on whether you can play your game or not.
I ran OS 8.5/9.1 on an A3000 030 @ 25MHz(and eventually 040@40MHz) and got better benchmarks than any Mac of the same speed. I don't know what you're referring to regarding the graphics, that seemed to be where the Amiga beat them hands down since they had the custom chips. Of course I also had enough memory to let Shapeshifter run it as if it were a fully loaded Mac so that could have been a factor, especially if SS allowd virtual memory since back then VM was HORRIBLY inefficient. Too bad Amigas sell for way the hell too much right now...I bought 3 Silicon Graphics workstations cheaper than I could buy one A4k right now.
That's when I use the ACLU, or whoever to take care of THAT agenda of mine. You don't have to be loyal to every agenda these groups want to promote and you can even use one to fight another's agendas that you happen to disagree with. Sure it's twisted and expensive but nobody said that freedom was cheap.
I learned a long time ago to find groups that share an agenda you'd like to promote and then use their power to get what you want done. A simple letter of appreciation to the right group for "taking a stance against this new threat" with some motivational languaging will work wonders. In short, "I read your church's newsletter about this RFID technology being the mark of THE BEAST and I pray that Jesus(tm) will give me strength to resist their evil armies. I have attached a donation. It's not much but it's all that my social security check will allow after rent, food and tithing. Blessed be His name."
So yeah, call in when you get the chance and get them fired up about this. Write them letters, get them to get Pat Robertson and all his idiots involved and you'll see some changes made. You'll be surprised how easily it'll work, and how quickly all these people will be forgotten once the message makes it to the right person much in the same way each church will be forgotten once the message makes it to someone like Pat.
Can you give some info on this? I'm highly interested. I'm guessing that it's because you would be someone the community would possibly be relying on in case of an emergency.
I think that if their actions were criminal then they should be open to a lawsuit and jail time. Otherwise, people sue for silly crap and since we don't yet have the laws that state that the loser of a (frivolous) civil case pays all the court costs as they have across the pond, what he's doing is the next best thing.
Call bullshit all you like son, it still won't change the facts that Fortune 500 companies act on my advice. And the site's down cause I'm presently migrating from IRIX to Linux and that particular site is not a priority compared to the others. If I were someone else who didn't know anything about respect, I'd say you were nothing more than a trash talking pig fucker, but I'm not so I'll just tell you to find a new rock to crawl under.
I don't know about Tolkien(never was remotely a fan of his work) but I know that TSR, the developers of D&D, were supposedly sued to remove the Cthulu mythos as well as Stormbringer/Ehlrich, etc. from Dieties and Demigods making the original amazingly priceless for us old skewl "first edition'ers".
Why all this compassion and caring for employees and the operating system they are used to? First words out of my mouth when I take over as the admin are usually "things are really going to change here. You are going to unlearn many things and relearn many others." and since they're employees who want to keep their jobs, they learn to use the software that's made available...."what!?!? you don't want to learn this new stuff? I'm sure the next guy to apply for a job will have no problems with this". I've gone to work for companies that ran some completely retarded menu systems with archaic commands that ran on DOS(another on top of SCO, IIRC)...I never heard a single employee complain that it wasn't enough like Win98/XP, etc. They learned what they needed to know and never questioned it. It's the employees' duty to fit into the company's decisions, not vice versa.
I've successfully migrated people from Windows to Mac, Mac to Windows, Mac to BSD, Windows to IRIX, et al. and as long as it's shown that the bottom line is taken care of, upper management has no problems with the attitude because at some point in time every employee is going to have to be retrained for every piece of software that gets upgraded, etc. and they see no reason that they should pay for the software and the training too. Give them cheat sheets for what they need to do and you'll never get a call unless something BAAAAAD happens.
Why, might I ask, are you responding with this to MY post!!?!?!?!??!?! I think you need to watch where you hit the "reply to this" button. Why they modded you up I have no idea either but that's for them to work out.
Yeah, they'll will the War on grey market products just the same as they've won the War on (Some)Drugs, the War on Homelessness, the War on Terrorism....
I've pondered this question myself and I've come to the conclusion that they're doing something a bit more complex.
I think what they have to do is date/timestamp and digitally sign each vote in SOME way that will make it possible to account for each vote. That's a lot more simplistic than it really is I think because they can't just record that John Dough voted for Kerry and his wife voted for Bush. If they don't already have it they need to categorize the types of votes: president, governor, city council, mayor, etc. and record that John made one vote for president and so did his wife and then without any way to tie it back to that couple, record the votes for the candidates themselves. At the end of the day number of votes for Kerry added to the number of votes for Bush added to the number of votes for a third party that needs to take over soon to get the country out of its current funk, and if they don't match the sums for that category, there is a problem.
Funny how there are people who write 900 page autobiographies and even the greatest scholars have no idea what their stance is on certain subjects and yet I write 2 sentences lightheartedly and you act like a psychic who has known me all my life, or maybe you're just looking to troll or flame someone, I dunno.
How about you listen to me say, yet once again, that you're not in the ballpark. Not even on the same planet so go away boy, you bother me.
Ah! The beauty of someone who baits their statements with stock lines like "one dimensional thinking". Sounds like flamebait to me.
How long do you think it's gonna take to get at that extra oil? How long do you think it's gonna last with our current usage? The answers are too long and not long enough, respectively.
The parent never mentioned that he wanted to do any of that; he pointed out 2 oil sources that hadn't been tapped yet and the tone of the message seemed to be that would fix all our problems since there weren't alternatives provided, hence the reason I asked him the question.
no matter what your color, ain't nothing wrong with fried chicken and watermelon.

That is another good point. I tend to like to promote their fears but that's for my sadistic pleasure..heh.

Ebay nor the WWW existed when I last looked for that book unfortunately. Though now I may pick up a copy just so I can get my kids to play.

Bad psychic. No cookie.
Is that you Miss Cleo!?!?
Wow!! Nice attack! Now try to get to know me first before you start making baseless statements about who I happen to be and what I happen to believe.
I didn't state anything. I asked a question about someone else's TRULY one-dimensional statement.
Now, quit with the thinly veiled ad-hominems and address the meat of the argument.
I didn't start with any ad-hominems. You made the statement about "one-dimensional thinking", remember.
