When I signed up for my VoIP service with ATT, they offered to give me any area code I wished, but then asked what area code I lived in so that the could route the call to the proper geographic emergency operator.
The service rep that explained that if I take the phone with me somewhere I can simply call and have the 911 access changed to that location.
You have obviously never had to deal with SBC's customer service. Their technical people know nothing. I have called several times, usually resolving the issues on my own. Only once have I had a tech willing to stay on the line and find out if my switch was down and actually pinpoint the issue.
I could not complain about the line speed or the reliability until recently. For approximately a year I had the 3.0/384 and was receiving closer to 5.5/512 at a constant pace. Lately the line will be stable and then all-over the palce (like cable) with horible upload. DSL reports clocked the upload at 5K (WOW).
Rather than using two identical chips, is there any difficulty in putting say a 2.4 Ghz chip with a 500 Mhz one? I would love to have the latest and greatest chip for gaming, and crunching through video and then have a low powered second chip to play my mp3's and surf the web, while the high-end chip is crunching through numbers in the background. Guess that's why I have a laptop, play on that while the desktop is doing its thing.
I hope that this does not mark the beginning of a trend to make video cards only work with specific motherboards. This card will only run with a Giga-Byte MB with the appropriate BIOS.
Changing from the 3 or 4 versions of AGP to PCI express is going to create a large enough ripple when it comes to upgrading and purchasing new motherboards and video cards, do we really need to have PCI-X that work on one MB and not another?
I just installed MS Anit-Spyware. It works alright, runs much like Gaint does/did. I guess it runs alright, it did not find any objects on my laptop (which is not surprising) except for RealVNC which it says is a moderate threat (I thought that was funny).
I do like the restore features, and the proccess details, but that was left over from Giant. I hope that the proccess details and star-up info become more accurate with MS providing the details.
I purchased my thinkpad two years ago and the parts where assembled in Raliegh, NC at the IBM PC plant their. The parts come from abroad, but the design and assembly takes place in the US at and IBM facility.
IBM is all about profitable technology. When a product does not yield a decent return they drop the line. Consumer Hard Disk Drives make very little margin, so IBM sells off 70% of the Consumer HD production to Hitachi, this still gives them room to use technology inovated by Hitachi in the IBM owned server disk drive market (high yeild).
IBM stopped selling computers in retail store several years ago, they were moving away from the average low yeild PC user, and moving to a more to a sole business machines company. I doubt they will drop their Intelli-stations or Thinkpad line. Those are business machines, it's simple the consumer level hardware they want to rid themselves of. There are to many vendors in the consumer market.
Not true anymore. The new SLI format does not stand for the scanned lin..... Rather then having one video card take odd lines and the other even the cards actually break apart the frame to be rendered and determine where more detail (thus processing power) is need and the concentrate on those areas, so card one may be calculating more pixels, and card to might be concentrating on a detailed area, but they are both doing about the same amount of computation.

so really, who is hotter? Alley or Alley's sister?
You don't need to fumble around the back of your computer. right-click the network icon in your system tray and disable, if you don't have a newtork icon go to your network connections, and repeat the process there.

The author isn't talking about auto updating software or and OS, he's talking about prebuilt Server/Clients for small offices.

Let me educate all of you on some important Disney history. Michael Eisner was brought in as the CEO and President of the Board of directors in a time when the Disney Company was struggling financially. He turned the company around. Built a Disney parks in Tokyo, Paris, and construction is almost complete in Hong Kong. Disneyland Tokyo is the most popular theme park in the world and Dinseyland Paris is number 3 (this is according to IAAPA study in 95 doubt much has changed since). Eisner was also intimately involved in the design of the extremely successful Disney Cruise Line. As for Roy Disney, he doesn't come from the best gene pool. I love and admire Walt Disney. Shoot I'm naming my first son after him when he is born early next year, but I do not share the same affinity towards Roy Disney (sr). He was a tight wade with no imagination, or willingness to embark in a risky venture. He denied Walt financing for Disneyland as well as withholding the Disney Name from Walt when Walt wished to use the Walt Disney Company as the owner of Disneyland, instead he was forced to start Walt Disney Enterprises, because of Roy. Walt also had to seek funding from other companies for Disneyland. It's amazing that the Walt was able to do so much with a brother always holding him back. And lets talk about who put Disney into a tough financial situation. It happened while Roy was in command. Michael Eisner bailed the company out. So I take everything that Roy Disney (jr) says about Michael Eisner with a grain of salt. If Roy really cared about the company he would not have stepped away from the company completely by leaving the board he would have tried to change things as a member of the board not as an outside radical.
On the Pixar note I find it interesting that after the "huge break-up" they still are producing movies that are outside the scope of the original contract. The break-up was over the number of original movies that Pixar had to produce, they said they were done with monsters, and disney said that Toy Story 2 didn't count as original, so Pixar made Nemo, which would fulfill the contract from any angle, but they are still made the incredibles and are making Cars for Disney. Seems that to me that Pixar isn't totally ready to leave Disney behind, that Job's ego was writing the press-releases during the break-up.

Let me rephrase. I build systems for friends and relatives, and they tend to have no problems for a good deal of time. I have my norton AV, Zone Alarm, etc all running nice. I was not refering specifically to malware and spyware in my comment, for those who push their hardware/software and a those who are constantly tweaking and trying to optimize everything windows just gets bloated like a sea cow. So everyfew months it's just time to install the OS again and trying and clean up everything (filestructure, updates to software, yada yada)
You have been running on the same install of windows for yearS. That is impressive. I find I need to reinstall windows every 3-6 months to keep my computers in an operable state.
It appears that the coloring changes that are pointed out between the special edition and the DVD edition of Star Wars have more to do with the two types of media then having been color corrected.
Unfortunately there are several application that will only run on XP. AVID DV Express, Adobe Encore, and Adobe Premiere, just to name the software I want to use on my 2000 box, of course I do wish my C&C Red Alert would run on an OS other then 95 and 98.
Bandwidth is only cut in half? The one (and only) thing I like about MS is that they have really fast servers. Windows update will fill my 5mb/s line everytime.

I still use winamp 1.90, I highly doubt that it will be affected. Besides what's a skine?!
How about just switching to Gieco?

Remember Diamond was aquired by S3, and they killed the GeeForce Card that Diamond was working on, no wonder diamond died.
Total Agree, long live the Viper 330.
