Why does the first thing that comes to mind after reading just this headline, make me think of that one episode on Star Trek Voyager, when Voyager got caught in that planets atmosphere/space-time bubble and time on that planet was accelerating at like almost a week for every second on voyager... and then the civilization finally learned space travel and went up to voyager, and learned about all the time acceleration... Kinda screwed up if this is all true.:P
Yep.. Especially because if people would RTFA it says specifically that the person was making copies and distributing them.. which can put to rest the speculation from within the description of the story, and such. I love it when stories are put to the front page and "Speculate" the truth, when the truth is, yes, indeed this person IS DISTRIBUTING copies of Call of Duty 3 for the XBOX 360...
And it's awesome that they are not pulling an RIAA.. I assume this Strickland dude from New York has his own stand or possibly selling them on the internet or even maybe around his school. I'm a huge fan of Activision, and I'm glad to see them not pulling the stuff RIAA has been known to do.
Yep, those are good too.. but I'd also add something that was basically born from Slashdot, it's Rosetta Code For common solutions with multiple code for different programming environments.
First of all, I'm not even looking to make a profit at this point... I'm looking to start a very serious and real form of social networking for geeks like us... We honestly have nothing to go to except flamebaiting slashdot. Wouldn't you like to honestly have a place to socialize without flamebaiting and mass spamming of pictures of hot chicks wanting you to be your friend and view their webcam? As well as contribute, get full recognition of their work, and to have a place to call home that isn't a mypedospace or feetbook url? If I was out to make a mighty buck off this, I wouldn't be offering a open source method to this... I'd just be proprietary like the above mentioned social networking sites.
Boy oh boy, I saw this coming. I would like to point my fellow slashdot users to my old old comment here first, about how WotC and I had a contract to offer exclusive advertising, then a few months later, they took my idea, all my private proprietary concepts and already made features, then pulled their exclusive advertising deal, and called me up and told me how lucky I was that they didn't sue me a few weeks later after that comment in Slashdot.
All of this is no joke, I swear it. You can call me bitter, you can call me a poor sport, but in the end, I got the last laugh when Gleemax decided to shut down. They were never going to make it featuring their own material, and everyone knew this.
Peter Adkison met with me in private at Origins Gaming Convention back when Gleemax was about to go live at Gen Con, and told me that he would focus everything around Geekalize at Gen Con if I could focus a little more funds around it, to provide fun stuff and prizes and such, but at that time, Origins was our last ditch effort to drum up sponsors, and the like. We went bankrupt in November or so of that year, after being up for one year, spending over 20,000 dollars in advertising, watching Wizards pull an over 20,000 dollar advertising deal from under me so they can steal my ideas, and watched as they took and took and took from anyone they could to try to put together SOMETHING to resemble a social networking site.
So I announce this... if Geekalize could get funding again, and not get ripped off like it did with Dead Mages on the Shores, I would bring it back, and make the social networking site for geeks purely open source, with API's, project management, and among other things, a chance for the community to seriously focus upon the site as a whole, and contribute features, abilities, etc, and all of the coding would be via a GNU license. I want to do this right this time, and I want to see a community for geeks and gamers succeed this time. All who would be interested in bringing forth a community for ALL THE Right reasons and ALL THE RIGHT measures to maintain it and contribute to it, feel free to message me, or visit Geekalize.com and click on the blog link that's on the filler page. I have also provided a link to the web archive on Geekalize to show we were in fact in existence.
Your signature is great... except for the fact that there are no jobs in Ohio, unless you love working at McDonalds! It's why I'm moving out of ohio VERY soon. South I hear is where the jobs are at.
My two cents about Diebold, is that I was contracted with them to set these machines up. When I started hearing about all the faults, I told them to take the job and shove it. I can't say what faults I saw, cause I was under contract and that whole NDA bs.. but I assure you that this could have all been avoided if us contractors were able to speak up before the first trieouts with these things.
If I am correct, a Gripen is made by Saab... which also makes, well, cars, and a crap load of other stuff that is completely unrelated to cars, like for instance radars and underwater systems for detecting mines and such. I'd love to see a Saab car come equipped with all their other products they make : )
As for the fun happy stuff on eBay and Craigslist, this isn't the first time stolen military equipment was placed on eBay... I can't find the article right now, but it's been happening off and on for the past 3 years. What's even more fun, is the fact that one time it happened, I remember seeing that someone from Afghanistan won and received the auction for a bazooka that slipped through the cracks and was too late by the time eBay let alone customs found out.
Clearly this teacher is the sister of the cousin of the butcher of the brother of the nephew of the aunt of the brother of the friend of the half brother of the sister-in-law of the cousin of the friend of the friend of Bill Gates....
There was an article a while back on slashdot, that mentioned about this guy who found a way to duplicate boarding passes for an airline... before he published the information to the internet, he contacted his congressman, which did nothing about it.. but then published how to do it, and the template to the internet. He was then considered a "terrorist" and I have heard nothing more about him.
I completely agree... some of the best hacks in the world happened without anyone ever even knowing except the person who did it... He just had the balls to take credit for it... I don't know if in Sweden they brand hackers terrorists or not, like in the U.S., but if they do, he could be in a lot of trouble.
I have a prediction about this guy... what's going to happen in about 5-10 years, is he will end up writing articles like other hacker sellouts that we know.
I agree, I would as well. Slashdot is what it is, Slashdot! If the integrity is changed/destroyed, it would not be what I signed up for, or visit to get my every four hour fix on news.
Oh when your down and looking for some chearing up
Just head right on up to the court room mountain cave
They got lolly pops and little hats
Oh so many things that will brighten up your day
I think we will always have wired networks, for the simple fact that as technology progresses, so do the methods of spying and such. It's much easier to eavesdrop on WiFi than it is on a wired network. You would need physical access to the wired network in order to carry out your plans for espionage.
Believe me, Ohio is horrible. Regarding the article, I checked the case record online, and found that the jury found the guy Not Guilty on all charges. He was charged with Rape, Sexual Battery, Falsification, and obstruction of official business... sounds like the last two, the prosecutor was REALLY digging hard.
The only real hope for this mindset list, is that all of us will be in power by the time it rolls around. We must spread the word about Mario, 4chan, Mr. Rodgers, and Dick Chaney. We must also clone Robin Williams. We must also keep George Lucas around to digitally remaster Lord of the Rings. We also need to conspire against silicon valley in the future. The world can never forget!
The article title on the blog has just changed replacing the word Rootkit to SecuROM. I believe Slashdot has done the internet a great justice today. We just made a blogger correct himself and prevent future FUD.
That music playing on the film sounds something close to a really cheesy porno. The odd thing about the film, is the fact that the one arm that was writing, seemed to be going back and forth writing. The O was complete before the l's were in HELLO.

If I'm not mistaken, Nation One for the robots was in Iraq according to the Matrix... I for one welcome our new architect that made s.w.o.r.d.s...

Alltel beat them to the punch years ago. I've been using my Verizon phones on the Alltel network since the cows came home...

I spent my days playing Shadowrun for the Sega Genesis and old skewl tabletop... Those days are long over...

Oh yeah? Super duper real men code in Python or Perl!
Modders, mark me as a troller if you like, but I'm just filling in the "Missing Options". I would seriously code in CNL (CowboyNeal Language).
I completely agree. PHP5 hands down.

They also forgot: "Half of them didn't make it during the invasion of robots."

Humor goes a long way. Sorry you felt I was serious...
