Does this only apply to R1 disks, or are other regions similarly faulty? Do we (e.g. in the UK) have any recourse if so?
Also, will the replacement DVDs they're offering still be the dodgy ones?
I've tried the version available in Europe, and even allowing for the fact it's Nescafe to start with, it can't be described as even vaguely resembling coffee. Might be worth having in the car for emergencies, but it wouldn't replace anyone's daily coffee if they have any taste buds.
Nah, they're more likely to replace something that's been working well in COBOL for 20 years with something in.net - which MS will change out of all recognition in five years leaving it just as unmaintainable if not more so.
And never mind the programmers, what about us MVS (aka z/OS) Sysprogs, eh?
Yes, I did say I couldn't remember the exact power; the point was (as I've just had a quick search for) that the recommended distance from a WiFi antenna on a PC to your body (especially genitals) is about 5-30cm (that part it appears I was about right in recalling).
It's not only the heat you should be concerned about - if your laptop has Wifi (like the one I'm using now - d'oh!) then you have to consider that too. I did look it up a while ago, and I seem to recall the recommended safe distance is 10cm/W, but whatever it was worked out for my Dell C640 as about 30cm - much further than if you have it on your lap.
Maybe they're just going to make the blade fall off if the wrong person picks it up? Or slide into the pommel like one of those comedy plastic daggers?
Now you mention it, watching on the DVD, when Greebo's lying there smoking on the table, I thought "There's someone who's had one too many Pan-Galactic Gargle Blasters"
(and yes, with DVD you can see Greebo shoots first by two frames)
Nonsense. The pictures are much better on Radio. just compare the original radio series (available on CD from the amazon of your choice) with Zaphod's second head on TV (available on DVD etc)!
Yes - at least they produced something original.:-)
Congratulations to them.
OTOH, if they had used Linux, everyone would have just gone on about how great it was that they'd used Linux, not how clever that they'd got the UAV to work. Can't win...
> 70% of the up-modded comments will be people who automatically equate 'UAV' with warplane.
My first post (yay! - now modded 0 - boo!) was only intended to emphasise what the linked site acknowledges:
"Safety - An autonomous flight control system inherently removes human operator intervention from vehicle functionality. The capability of an aircraft of considerable mass, traveling at high velocity, to inflict damage to people or property is substantial. It was critical that the flight control system would include several modes of flight termination in case of emergency or flight control system failure."
Sure, there are non-military uses for UAVs - crop dusting, fire fighting, ground mapping, etc, but I'd be interested to know what proportion of the devices currently out there are in fact military.
Surely if your business is in insuring against something, it's not in your interest to do the research to show exactly how that thing can be brought about, even if in the first instance it improves your sales?
Kind of like an auto insurer producing a report on which car locks are least secure, and how to pick them.
That would be on disk seven - The Animatrix.
As far as being canonical goes, I understood that was the reason for seeing Animatrix before Reloaded - that was a chunk of story you should know about (but then so was the game, which is why I'm glad they're inserting that into the movies).
Just glad I decided not to buy 2&3 - I was sure they would bring out more complete disks in time (if not better-scripted).
The authors of the code are hardly going to sue you for redistributing it, as then they'd have to reveal who they were, which would open a whole can of worms for them.
I meant are only the R1 disks cropped wrong, or are all regions' disks wrong?

More like c:/MESHRUG~1, surely?

And yes, I'm married.
$6500! Don't think I'll be getting one any time soon...
The only reason my CRT flickers is because XP (or the video driver) is too stupid to remember the refresh rate I set last time I booted it up.

3PO: I think you ought to know I'm feeling very depressed...

Star Wars DVDs or HHGG Radio play? Well, I'll probably be in my car at the time, so Hello Arthur...
Sony Beings?
If you want Car Talk to go, try Audible.com. I get The News from Lake Wobegon there every week.
You underestimate the abilities of your fellow /.ers. Few hours, indeed..
Wow! They've made one that's actually half human?
Congratulations to them.

Surely the scariest monster on TV is Billie Piper's husband Chris Evans?
