Well... Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu, José Ramos-Horta, Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa...
The list of great people who won the Peace Nobel goes on and on.
You have to look at the big picture here, instead of focusing on United States petty politics.
There are so many wrong things with what you just said.
The Brazilian government offers many services to the middle-class. For instance, the federal universities are the best ones.
And besides, one of the reasons people pay taxes is to transfer the wealth from the richer sections of society to poorer sections. It's like that in almost every country in the world, even USA.
1) Not all Latin Americans speak Spanish. Some speak Portuguese. 2) In order to get a real job here, you have to speak a second language, and English is the obvious choice. Yes, unlike some people in other countries, we actually care to learn a foreign language.
What's really alarming the swapperati, though, is that Lokitorrent has agreed to turn over the server's user logs.
In a normal situation, you could make the case that agreeing to turn those over is a violation of users' privacy. In this situation, even if you could show that the site's terms and conditions promised never to disclose its users' information, you would almost certainly lose: a court that has just shut down a site for illegal activity is hardly likely to agree to protect its users. Especially not since the Supreme Court decision in Illinois v. Cabbales, which held that sending a sniffer dog to find drugs through a car stopped for speeding does not violate the Fourth Amendment (the one that prohibits search and seizure without probable cause). Around now, the MPAA is probably gleefully poring over the logs, going through IP numbers, and compiling a list of the "hundreds of thousands" of individuals it might sue next. Fun!
If a console comes out early it doesn't mean it will be succesful. Just think about Genesis (vs. SNES).
"i'd like a Nintendo comeback and for people to recognise Nintendo and Sega for the great games hardware/software design companies they are"
why come back? Nintendo is still alive and kicking. It may not have the greatest 3rd party support or its SNES aura, but its franchises are stronger than ever.
However, Sega are out of the console business - dreamcast compatibility would be doable (though they'd probably improve the copy protection from the original...), add that to xbox 1 compatibility and you have a library that comes close to rivalling the PS2.
I don't think so. You're forgeting the PS2 backwards compatibility with PSone.
But even without PSone games, I think that the PS2 has more games than Xbox + dreamcast. See here.
"Another interesting speculation is that xbox 2 and revolution could be the same console - after all nintendo sells in Japan and xbox in the US. However, I think both companies are too proud to take this step."
Now *that* would be interesting.
"The Xbox has not failed".
No? So what does the/. news affirm? That the Xbox is a success?
The last week, the Xbox has sold 272 units in Japan. That is even below PSOne, with 276. If that is not a failure, then i don't know what it is. Someone may say that the Japan market is not important, but majors softhouses are there.
Quoting the official site, about Richard Reisman (the "inventor"): "This work draws on a decades of thinking about new media combined with diversified practical information technology and business experience - and on a visionary mind-set tempered by a sense for effectiveness honed by training in analytical methods for optimization. (see bio). Reisman also has a broad interest in the creative process and the business of innovation - and organized and moderated a symposium on "Patents for Dot-coms" for the MIT Enterprise Forum of NYC in April 2000."
And the title of the forum that Reisman moderated: "Fool's Gold or Mother Lode".
IMHO, I think you're missing the point. The article states that the reverse-firewall would block traffic from specific ports that used the computer as, quoting the article, "a group of "zombie" machines hijacked to distribute huge amounts of fraudulent e-mail or launch denial-of-service attacks without being traced directly."
If you want access to a blocked port, i'm shure that you could easily open it. But this is not about "computer experts" or something like that, this reverse firewall aims the average computer user. They are the ones whose computers are beeing used as spam spreaders by someone else.
from this page: "By eliminating shipping and storage costs the book can be sold at it's normal price."
So, the shipping and storage cuts compensate for the laser print and all the network stuff, i guess...
MVPs, who are chosen for having a "unique set of expertise and passion" around Microsoft technologies...
So, as you said, the open source won't be really open for a broader community.
from the interview: What is Far Cry going to be about? And when is that film going to be made?
Uwe - Next year. We are using 80% of the game story.
80% of the story? How can he be so exact? Why not 81.99%?
According to the interview, he also has the rights to Fear Factor, Dungeon Siege and his "friend" has the rights to Soul Calibur. And he also has interest in Hitman, Silent Hill and The Suferring. What is wrong with the publishers? They are selling these rights to a man not capable of delivering a good movie.
What about Star Craft, Red Alert , Max Payne or Monkey Island for example?
Uwe - Starcraft is very good, but is a big shot!. Red Alert...no, Max Payne is great! but I prefer Hitman!...Monkey Island...no.
At least three saved franchises: Starcraft, Red Alert and Max Payne.
Secondly, give the game a MGS2 move and make the player play as a 'rookie' character.
Seriously? Playing as Raiden in MGS2 was kind of anticlimatic, IMO.
Lara Croft is an overdone character thats around simply because of the 'boob' factor.
Tomb Raider is popular because of Lara Croft, not the other way around. When it first came out, the game did not have any mind blowing graphics or gameplay. The game success was based on Lara Croft (or her boobs, i don't know...)
Square-Enix is (in my eyes) the type of company that finds a formula that works and repeats it until it no longer works, rinse, lather, repeat as necessary.
What about Chrono Trigger? A successful game based on a new game mechanic. Parasite Evil and Vagrant Story also come to my mind. I could be wrong, but I think they were all innovative games.
Call me a Nintendo fanboy, but I much prefer the design elements of the Mario RPGs...
Mario RPG was a fantastic game. All Miyamoto games (or based on its characters) tend to focus on the gameplay. Just think about Zelda, a RPG with a simple story but remains as one of the best RPG sagas ever because of the new elements that are added every game (two worlds - A Link to the Past, wind - The Wind Waker, time - Zelda N64 games...)
Best stories you've ever experienced? I felt totally bored after a few hours. Japanese games have a tendency to add philosophy into the script. It is like reading Pleateu with a few monsters battles here and there.
Japanese game designers think they are starting a new intellectual trend. Just think about Metal Gear Solid 2. A wonderful game engine & design put to waste because of a terrible story line.
Give me some Miyamoto games where all I need to do is rescue the princess (Peach or Zelda).
Yeah, I was lucky enough to receive my copy today, so I'll share it with you guys.
1. 6800 is a tad faster than X800 cards. Both run it in full glory
2. The game has four render paths: NV10, NV20, R200, and ARB2. All paths look awesome, even down to a g4mx, but the ARB2 path is the full package, and is used for the R300+ and Geforce FX+ cards. It does all it's fancy **** in one pass.
3. PCI Express enhances NOTHING.
4. The difference between a 128mb and 256mb card is that the former uses compressed textures whereas the latter only compresses diffuse and specualr maps. In another words, no big deal. However, a 500mb card is needed to run the game in Ultra Quality mode.
5. 512MB is the ideal system total memory. 384 is required, 1GB is nice, but the difference is negligible.
6. Nothing special is included for a 64-bit OS.
7. A 1.5 Ghz processor is the least recommended, but a 2Ghz and above will help since...
8...The sound engine is entirely CPU dependant. Therefore a crappy soundcard works flawlessly. Not to worry, the enfine only uses a small percentage of cycles, much less than if the engine relied on a soundcard.
9. The only reccommendation regarding faster framerates is to disable to advanced special effects option. In other words, upgrade if you have problems.
10. They tie it up by providing three levels of Doom lovin' PC's
Low-End:
1.5GhzP4 or equivalent
512MB Ram
Geforce4 Ti 4800 or Radeon 9500
Mid-Range:
2.4GhzP4 or equivalent
1GB RAM
Geforce5950 or Radeon 9800 Pro/XT
High_End: Aka Hardware that doesn't exist, but best guess anyway
3.4GhzP4 or AMD equivalent
2GB RAM
GeForce 6800 Ultra or Radeon X800 XT PE.
In conclusion, the game will run well on a variety of hardware, and Rob Duffy, the lead programmer, says that the game looks real good no matter what, and that it will continue to look better as hardware improves. Like all previous id engines, we'll be playing games based on D3 for another five years down the road.
PC Gamer magazine reviewed Doom3 in its newest edition and gave the game a 94%. Here is an interesting post in the nvNews boards, with the full review, hardware and multiplayer details

Actually, it's space. It's just not outer space. But the news never claimed that they reached outer space.

No. It's the democracy that did us a favor and won this war. I'm not even american, but I know when to respect a country.
I bet they would trade their broadband for US' democracy.
Bjorn3d also has a nice article about PSP, including two videos.

It's interesting to note that RenderWare is also behind Konami's Winning Eleven soccer game.

If by that they mean sexualy oriented, I think I should play a MMORPG...
