Say I give you a dot on a piece of graph paper. I tell you that this dot lies on a curve represented by the equation f(x)=y. Now accurately predict the path of this function. Do you have enough information to do anything? I don't think so.
For all we know our magnetic feild could have been at it's strongest ever 150 years ago and now it's leveling off to normal levels. Or perhaps it's dipping right before a major surge in magnetism. Maybe it's plumeting like a stone. The fact of the matter is we don't know anything, we simply don't have enough data. So if everyone is preparing for a time when Earth's magnetic field is extremely weak and then all of a sudden it shoots up to 200% and we're caught completely unprepared don't blame me.
Just because the magnetic field is getting slightly weaker or the Earth is getting slightly warmer doesn't mean this trend will just continue linearly and we're all in trouble. Nature is very unlinear, it tends to oscillate.
I don't mean that it's not a good idea to be cautious, but looking at such an insignificant portion of data and getting all worked up about it is just plain stupid.
According to a story in the NY Times (covered on/.), Earth's magnetic field has weakened 10-15% since we started measuring 150 years ago. Maybe our grandkids will have to wear lead undies.
Then again it might just be an insignificant fluctuation that happens every billion years or so. We have 150 years worth of data, the Earth is billions of years old, I don't think we're qualified to make assumptions.
By the time they're done with all six movies they'll have to remaster the first trilogy (IV - VI) and show it in theaters (again). Then when that's done they'll have to remaster the second trilogy (I - III) and show those in theaters again. But by that time the first trilogy will be so far out of date they'll decide to completely remake it.
You'll be waiting for that all-in-one box set for a long long time.
My signature has always been inconsistent. Hell, letters start turning into odd scribbles when I'm in a hurry. I've seen my 'z' turn into an atrocious, indiscernible jumble of curves. It's close enough for someone at the bank to glance at and say it's fine, but if someone was actually going to look at it in detail they'll probably think it's forged.
From what I've seen Counter-Strike Source is just Counter-Strike ported to the Source engine. The only improvements have been in the graphics department.
I don't know why ValvE has focused a considerable amount of effort to porting an old game to a new engine instead of just making Counter-Strike 2. I hope this game will be free just like the original Counter-Strike because I'm not going to pay for a rehash.
I've heard about these types of devices quite a few times before. Infact I think the first time I heard about something like this TechTV was still known as ZDTV.
It's pretty obvious that it didn't work out before, I'm not sure why they're still trying.
A lot of you seem to like this case mod while you think others are somehow lesser so. A lot of you link a kid buying premodded stuff and 'tricking' our his case as modding. Trust me when I say that case modding is all about being custom and original. I read the project logs forum at Bit-Tech somewhat regularly and there are always good things going on there.
Just my two cents for those of you who think this is the only good case mod out there.
I wonder if they have a 'No Spam' rule in the forum rules to try and keep down the mass amounts of spam posts. But then the forums would be stifling it's own members.
Well it's just unique. They both use very large maps and there are of course vehicles. You can choose many different roles but in the end you have to work together.
You could be defense in a heavy armor and set up turrets, sensores, and defend the base with heavy weapons. Or you could be medium armor (which I never found useful). And of course you can be light armor. You can be a sniper, flag capper, or base infiltrator (to name a few).
You can't just be a complete gung-ho team though. If you have no one defending the base the enemy can easily come in and take out your power generators. Vehicle stations, inventory stations, and preplaced turrets (the ones the map starts out with, not the ones you place) all draw power from the generator. So players usually specialize in a certain roles and everyone works together as a team.
Thats just kind of a breif overview of what made it such a good game. And of course don't forget you have jet packs in this game, those make it fun as well. The only bad part about these two games are the fact that not many people play anymore. Maybe this free download will boost player numbers.
You know it might not be cutting edge graphics or anything but these two games are good. I remember playing Tribes a long time ago and it was such a unique style of play that drew me in. I haven't found a game quite like it yet and I still don't mind playing the original Tribes every now and then.
Tribes 2 of course had some problems at the beginning, but it's pretty solid now. The game is still fun, supports up to 64 players on a server, and if you like using a lot of vehicles this game is pretty awsome.
I would definetely suggest downloading either or both of these games and try it out, very fun.
Pay a crap load of money for a beta account for a service that will be free sooner or later anyway. What are you gaining from getting this beta account? Bragging rights? Thats a hefty price for bragging rights.
Everyone missed the entire point of what I said. I'm saying that Debian's stable is old. I'm not saying it isn't updated, but right out of the package you are getting old stuff that you will need to upgrade. People are going to skip over Debian and go for things like Fedora, thats the point I'm trying to get.
The point I was trying to make with a person running Red Hat 7.3 was the fact that they aren't switching distros. Everyone is jumping on the linux bandwagon but they aren't going to install Debian. So once they install Fedora or some other distro, they will most likely never go to Debian. I'm saying that Debian is missing out and this delay can only hurt them more.
That being said I use Debian and I'm not an avid Red Hat/Fedora fan. So yes, whatever. I have my opinion and you have yours.
So now that they have these cameras set up to "protect our rights", who is going to stop them from pointing them into your homes? Are you going to? I doubt it, they'll put a guise over it and say there have been cat burglers or something and they are trying to catch them. Pretty soon you will be under surveillance in your own home.
It's not what they're doing right now, but what they CAN do. This is just one step towards that direction.
I think there's a point you missed though. Even though Debian is well supported and is infact a good linux distro, it's still aged. There is a definite trend towards open source operating systems right now and I think Debian is going to miss out on this to sa large extent. People (and by people I don't mean individual computer enthusiasts) are going for the more main stream and updated distros such as Fedora. Once you install a distro on a box you tend not to just replace it with a different distro on a whim. I know people who use Red Hat 7.3 for servers still and as long as the hard drive is alive and assuming they don't kill the OS, it will be running for a long time to come.
In that respect I do think distros such as Debian and Gentoo will fade away to a large extent. They will always be around, but not widely used.
Say I played a song on my guitar and sent it to my friend (which I do sometimes). I'm not making money off of their song. You can get tab anywhere for practically any song. Just so long as you aren't making money off of it. But since this program actually looks at the sound itself it wouldn't let me send this to a friend. Just a thought though.
I don't feel like donating a few trillion cycles to produce an image that says "The page cannot be displayed". Possibly if you made it say, "The photons cannot be displayed", I would think about it.
I hear a lot of people saying we should fix up this planet first, but even if this planet was in perfect condition our population would eventually grow to numbers the Earth can't support.
We are intelligent beings who (in my opinion) should be able to expand into space. I'm not saying we recklessly terraform planets and suck up all of the resources. We need to realize what we've done to Earth and not do it again.
On top of our species very survival, Mars can also be used as a pad for further space exploration in our never ending quest to find extraterrestrial life, specifically intelligent beings like ourselves.
... why similar games are a bad thing. Did Blizzard invent the RTS style game type? No, but they sure did perfect the concept at the time with StarCraft. Not everything is a rehash or a redo (albiet some are). Developers take the tried and true method and perfect it, or mix it up a bit.
Unreal Tournament 2004 is obviously a rehash of every FPS with vehicles, right? It may be similar, but the game is so simple, so addictive, that it doesn't matter.
This guy just likes to see himself type, his articles are nothing more than an attention whoring fool who thinks he has something intelligent to add to this world.

What a dilemma!
It's supposed to come out with the next Steam update according to X-Tender. Join #hld on Quakenet and he will tell you in person.
Now as to when the next Steam update is I don't know. Supposedly it's today or something like that.
So yeah, cross your fingers.

I think he ate some too.

I wonder how they would respond to this, "Have you gone bananas?"
who will use custom Windows NT software
That's a joke all in itself.
Would it kill me to log in before I post?
