  1. Does research need government? on Can Long Term Research Survive the Coming Age of Austerity? · · Score: 1

It has been claimed that it doesn't. The claim is: government funded research was, for all modern purposes, non-existent before 1920, and yet the pace of development and growth in science, technology and wealth remained constant into the modern day.

I disagree that people wouldn't leave a state because of its policies. If the policies were inconvenient enough, people would move. As an example take the shrinking population of North Dakota. A lot of people born there move away, and while it's not directly related to the state's policies, it is similar in the way that the young people don't like the conditions of North Dakota and they pack up and leave. Sufficiently bad policies would have a similar effect.

Unfortunately, as was indicated in the article, digital music is a very small part of the market.

  9. River City Ransom 2 on Sequels We'd All Like To See · · Score: 1

Use a GTA3-like engine, but keep the cheesy 50's theme and with its old-school brawlin' (no guns or cars). Keep the malls with lots to choose from and the character stats. Also, lame dialog is a must! More gangs and bosses than the original. Multiplayer with combiation attacks was also something that made RCR special. And somehow, try to fit Abobo in there.

I don't see how this game couldn't be a hit.

I think (1) is true only when (2) is true, especially if you have to figure in replacing lost helium in the baloons, forever.

Or how about a tube running along the tether? Or just using a normal tower for this? I don't see how there can be profit in using a tether system as a glorified radio tower.

  17. Re:Exactly on Apple vs Microsoft- Who's the Copycat? · · Score: 1

If your computer is hanging, stalling or crashing, you have a hardware problem. Don't blame Microsoft for that. ... Apple's ads show the "PC guy" actually stopping, which hasn't happened in what, ten years?

The "PC Guy" represents PCs. So if the stalling is due to PC hardware, the joke applies. Apple is a hardware company, remember.

Also, I would guess that a great deal of people get the joke, meaning that it is not some bygone phenomenon.
