It has been claimed that it doesn't. The claim is: government funded research was, for all modern purposes, non-existent before 1920, and yet the pace of development and growth in science, technology and wealth remained constant into the modern day.
I disagree that people wouldn't leave a state because of its policies. If the policies were inconvenient enough, people would move. As an example take the shrinking population of North Dakota. A lot of people born there move away, and while it's not directly related to the state's policies, it is similar in the way that the young people don't like the conditions of North Dakota and they pack up and leave. Sufficiently bad policies would have a similar effect.
Use a GTA3-like engine, but keep the cheesy 50's theme and with its old-school brawlin' (no guns or cars). Keep the malls with lots to choose from and the character stats. Also, lame dialog is a must! More gangs and bosses than the original. Multiplayer with combiation attacks was also something that made RCR special. And somehow, try to fit Abobo in there.
Oh, well, nevermind that we really are going to run out sometime, and that all this means is our children or grandchildren will be stuck with the problem instead of us
Well at least they'll have something productive to do.
If the platforms were used as Wi-Fi stations, robots would one day be needed to climb up the tethers to deliver new helium tanks for the balloons (Image: LiftPort Group)
Or how about a tube running along the tether? Or just using a normal tower for this? I don't see how there can be profit in using a tether system as a glorified radio tower.
If your computer is hanging, stalling or crashing, you have a hardware problem. Don't blame Microsoft for that.... Apple's ads show the "PC guy" actually stopping, which hasn't happened in what, ten years?
The "PC Guy" represents PCs. So if the stalling is due to PC hardware, the joke applies. Apple is a hardware company, remember.
Also, I would guess that a great deal of people get the joke, meaning that it is not some bygone phenomenon.
That probably wouldn't work. Any laser sufficiently powerful enough to destroy a satellite would destroy a mirror too. If the mirror has less than perfect reflectivity it gives the laser something to heat, damaging the mirror and eventually getting through.
Yeah right. This little theory is easily testable, as there is plenty of soil in the world that has never been touched by pesticides. You won't find your missing B12 there.

This should help our understanding.
Goto where the farmers are burning down the rain forests
I did that, but I was in the middle of the carbon cycle, and now I have no idea where I am in this program's execution!
is a sufficient headline.

OK, yeah, CDs are digital too... I meant downloadable music. You know what I mean!
Unfortunately, as was indicated in the article, digital music is a very small part of the market.

I don't see how this game couldn't be a hit.

well I'll be damned if I use this software on a computer with a network connection then!
I must say I am very flattered.
What's that line about imitation being the sincerest form of flattery?
I think it goes something like "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery"
1. Cheaper to construct
2. Much higher in the air for better coverage
I think (1) is true only when (2) is true, especially if you have to figure in replacing lost helium in the baloons, forever.
Snow Crash's "gargoyles" are now real.

How much money did companies lose in dealing with viruses last year? (One reason to go through the trouble)
P.S. - A competent sysadmin could delete the consumer fluff from the workplace installations, and add the necessary productivity tools to the release.
You can tell it's Mary Had a Little Lamb just by looking at it.
I always thought it would be neat if you could flip a program window over and view the source code.

STOP saying that the government should not interfere in business--it's the ONLY thing they should interfere with!
You must not own a business.
What would be the advantage over a plane?
What's to stop the person with the power from holding a grudge against some family and making them the only family around with no power?
Profit.
If there is a profit to be made by selling them electricity, you wouldn't do that. (And tarnish your name at the same time among the family's allies)
