I know a family that allows proper nouns and common foreign words (dictionary words only), but only if they are five or more letters long. Weird rule, I know. They wanted to encourage their children to learn to spell.
I prefer the original rules, but I see no harm in having house rules if it gets people playing. It seems the concern here is having new, dumbed-down rules officially sanctioned. Just wait until they accept text message spellings, then we're doomed.
I just logged in and looked at it. It seems like a very nice feature. I found it amusing that you can "remove" information. Since none of my recent web searches are listed, the Dashboard appears to only keep track of your activity while you are logged in. Obvious, but still interesting. I imagine most searches can be identified by an IP address. Google must keep track of that too. Linking it together seem trivial. So the question remains: Is it real control or just the illusion of control? I guess only time will answer that question.
I live in California, born and raised here. It is a wonderful place to live. It is also a FAILED state. Neither the people or the politicians have the backbone to do what is required to fix it. I don't blame anyone from leaving, I've been considering it seriously myself.
Exactly. Windows CE was and still is garbage. Changing the name and adding more code hasn't helped it at all. (Big surprise.) Unlike desktop Windows, backwards compatibility and installed base don't matter here. Microsoft needs to throw it out and START OVER. (Or buy something that works.) Instead, Microsoft is so far behind everyone else, Windows mobile has become a joke.
Well this should clearly be illegal, dumping all of that ash and those greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere. Of course there's a Republican governor. Won't somebody think of the caribou?!
This is a step in the right direction. Windows 7 should come with all of the bells and whistles we've come to expect, but give us the choice of what we want to install.
Without selecting any options, you just get an OS. I would have a lot more respect for the product.
Now eliminate any DRM nasties and I'll be very happy.
I was much more sad when I heard about No.6 passing that I was about Kahn.
The editors made the wrong choice in highlighting this story and not McGoohan.
I love the Space Seed episode of TOS and Wrath of Kahn is the only movie that holds up really well, but even combined they pale in comparison to The Prisoner. Now add in Secret Agent and it's not even close.
I know this thread is dead, but I must correct myself. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metrication_in_the_United_States President Regan killed the metric switch in 1982. Your last point: whining of the hungry had nothing to do with it. Food will cost the same regardless of the unit of measure.
I'm not suggesting that it's a giant problem. The fact remains that it was decided that the US would join the rest of the world in metric. The project was started and then the whining (of the lazy) began, so instead of staying the course, we quit, thereby wasting everyones time and effort. Don't propose the change if you can't or won't follow through.
I agree that that is probably the main reason for wanting a delay. If it is, it smacks of cowardice, not leadership. Metric was too hard for Americans to learn in the 70's so Carter backed off that. Let's just admit that sometimes change is painful. Why so much fear of the future and progress? Stop pandering to the stupid, lets move forward.
Hey. My first car was a Fiat. 850 Spider to be exact. Ran great... As long as I did something to it every week. Something. Never sure what, but something. Yep, ran great, as long as I fixed whatever was broken or breaking. Yep, every week. That car taught me how much I hate working under the hood. But when it was running and I put the top down, all was forgiven. As long as I fixed something every week. Yep, every week. Miserable car, sometimes I miss it (what is wrong with me).
Bonus points if you catch someone doing something embarrassing.
I thought that was what YouTube was for.
What are you talking about?
This is Slashdot. Everything is a conspiracy.
It kind of looks a little like Velcro, in which case they're never going to get that boat off the bottom.
My thoughts exactly.

Bummer to be the company that gets stuck with "R"
They'll go broke suing all the pirates.
Poplers? Mmmm.
Quitters.
"We could have made 20 Billion if it weren't for all of those pirates!"
A quick remote login to redirect to a static "We are experiencing technical difficulties, please stand by" page. Then fix it on the next work day.
Or an agreement for comp-time or $xxx.xx for work outside of normal work hours.

I don't know...
Darth always struck me as intelligent. Darl?

I would have suggested $19.84
I'll write down stupid web site passwords
My slashdot password is the same as my luggage.

Ever had a super needy girlfriend...
Right there, first sentence, I was lost. Girlfriend? Huh?
This is slashdot, right? Oh look, shiny robot. Neat!
Hey, stop that!
Hulu and Boxee are perfectly cromulent product names.
Nuff said.

Way, way wrong in your estimate of their contribution.
Rent the box set of The Prisoner and watch it.
Sheesh! You kids today...
