    Sounds pretty compatible if you ask me. I wouldn't expect a virtualized ARM processor to load x86 code.

    javac references imported classes from the .class(es) rather than, say, a plaintext header file. Java bytecode doesn't typically preserve parameter names*. Hence the only information the compiler sees for Color is a constructor with 4 int parameters.

    * (apparently if you compile with the -g option, for debugging, that info is preserved. Or with -parameters with Java 8)

    Nice try but I run debian on my home system.

    The poster said they didn't like Unity. Ubuntu runs other desktop environments - trying them out might be an easier migration path than downloading a new ISO media of a completely different distro.

    Well if one can 'upgrade' to mint by switching repos then fine.

    I was just advising against going to the trouble of wiping an ubuntu install (with working hardware) to clean installing fedora/opensuse etc only to find something didn't work.

    Those files are arch-independent and work on x86? My understanding was it was ARM-only but I'm happy to be corrected.

    Android-x86 might be an option but is built off AOSP and includes none of the proprietary Google services such as Play - if that bothers the OP.

    Mod up. If the hardware is working, it doesn't make sense to re-installing from scratch without first exploring the alternative desktop environments available from the login manager on startup.

    (Let's not turn this into an Ubuntu vs [random poster's fave distro] flamewar - the user already has Ubuntu installed on the device)

    C++ is a horrible language. It's made more horrible by the fact that a lot
    of substandard programmers use it, to the point where it's much much
    easier to generate total and utter crap with it. Quite frankly, even if
    the choice of C were to do *nothing* but keep the C++ programmers out,
    that in itself would be a huge reason to use C.

    A number of airlines have a checkbox on their booking website for carbon offsets, in an industry-wide scheme through IATA. It's voluntary.

    Building mandatory tree-planting into the ticket price would be a tangible outcome at the next UN climate talks.

    German was an elective taught in the 1980s at my Australian secondary school (and presumably in the preceding decades). Something about being alert for WW3 - Russian was also an option.

    The most memory these things seem to have is 2GB - I'm not sure RAM is socketable on these SoC designs.

    So if you're expecting an AArch64 workstation to be competitive against Intel's latest Core-M offerings, you'll be disappointed.

    But if you're content with the computing power of your phone/tablet and just want a fanless computer you can plug into your tv's HDMI port, read the article.

    As a Gecko user, I'd hate for Webkit/Blink to become the only option. The interests of Google and Apple shareholders don't necessarily coincide with mine.

    MS may still be the Great Satan but it's their time and energy being spent.
