I'm not surprised how easily people are willing to believe the worst in things.
Four out of six people said it was crap. The other six said nothing. That doesn't make it crap, it means that six people declined to comment.
I don't know about in the U.S, but here in matters like these, you need a majority consensus to scap a concept.
I for one, think IBM should be investing all their money and support into getting SCO Unixware running on their eServers!
I mean, it's like that nice Darl McBride fellow says. Linux would be lightyears behind without SCO code! Why is IBM even considering using a mere clone when they could get the original?
Does this have anything to do with Novell entering the SuSE scene? Or has this certification been a long time coming?
Either way, this is another scratch on the wall of achievements Linux has attained. Most pre Linux UNIX admins have a disdain for Linux zealots, etc who believe that Linux can solve any problem any time, and I'm in the same camp, but with distributions getting certifications like this, Linux continues to progress in promising ways in many fields.
replying because i saw your taking back sunday lyrics in your sig and you are the only other person (seriously) that i know that listens to taking back sunday.
you will be my first slashdot friend.
Can I just say, as an Australian I'm really enjoying all the sudden attention that the Australian nerd news has been getting on/.? It's great!
Seriously though, I can vouch for this. Most of my friends are stubbornly insistent on buying their favourite bands new album as opposed to letting me download it and burn it for them. Most Australian bands are releasing their albums with a bonus dvd, or a bonus cd with extra stuff like live show video clips, etc. This is the kind of thing that stops people using Kazaa or BitTorrent MP3 sites. They are loyal to whichever band, and that free poster that comes with the CD is something you can't download off the 'net.
I think you'll find that pretty much all cellular providers had similar problems to the ones you described when they started up. If you look at the 3g forums for australia, youll notice the complaints on things like that have dropped significantly, as time has gone on.
In traditional/. style, I havn't read the article, so I don't know how this guy can already claim 3G as a dud. Here in Australia, Hutchison is doing fairly well, almost all of their handsets sold out within a couple of months of opening their "Three" stores and I'd say thats a pretty big indication of being exactly "what users wanted".
As a post much higher up said, the difference in this case is that everyone knows where those binary codecs are coming from. MPlayer isn't claiming it as their own work, its specifically listed as "windows 32 codecs".
THe difference here is that KISS is (purportedly) stealing MPlayer GPL'd code and claiming it as their own.
I'm sure the (surviving) terrorists are ROFL at us scrambling to prevent them repeating something they know they'll never repeat. We need to harden our other systems -- water/electric supplies, who's driving the oil/gas tankers/trucks, etc.
You don't know how true this is. I remember watching a documentary on "4th gen warfare" (this being the stratagem that bin Laden has adopted). The point of 9/11 wasnt simply to kill some people and destroy some monuments, it was to drain the enemy societies money, time, resources, etc. The people who died in 9/11 were nothing to bin Laden, he probably didn't even care much. It was the after effects, the money spent on killing people in Afghanistan, securing airports that was his major victory.
the copyright stuff is true.
im iranian, and was there not a year ago. you can get anything on cd there, anywhere. even the grocery stores sell cds.
and they are classy pirated copies from a thai company called "warezco".
the going price for a classy pirate (i.e. nice sleeve with proper cover, maybe a manual if you are lucky, and the cd itself) is about 4000 toman for a game, and 1000 toman for apps of any kind.
however in tehran, there is a shop (little knownst to most except the biggest computer enthusiasts) called Abi Computer where you can score any app/game/anything you could imagine for a cool 1000.
every time i go over there i spend about 10AUD and come back with 50+ cutting edge pirated apps/games hehe.
farsi kde has been around for a while. ive been giving it to a lot of relatives to use when their computers go down because of virii, etc and they wish to use farsi. so yeah.
this is good though. the majority of farsi software for windows ends up completley screwing up the computer. its usually virii infected and when you remove it the keymap doesnt restore properly leaving you with a well screwed computer.
I sure do hope they encrypt all their information in something a little stronger than wep.
Otherwise one laptop shopping trip later, and you could have the info of everyone in the store.
I'm running netbsd 1.6 on a 40mhz 12mb of ram 200mb hdd compaq laptop at home as the router.
We previously had a 386 running herbix, but the floppy drive died after about 12 good years of service.
I have begun work on mod_c4, mod_suicideblast and mod_dirtynuke for apache.
The beta currently works only on *nix systems, but I am hoping for win32 support for terrorist webservers across the internet before the end of the year.
i should also mention the phone (like all good video phones) supports mpeg 4, and 3gpp movie files. i have a 512mb sd card, i wake up in the morning, put a couple of hours worth of mp3s, 2 or 3 futurama eps, and off i head to work or uni depending on the day.
I own a Motorola A830.
Its a phone I bought from 3 (3g phone services here in.au)
It plays mp3s, has an sd card slot, does bluetooth/IR, fully functional email client, wide band GPRS, everything.
This is the true merging of PDA/Phone. Even more so with the Motorola A920. Check them out.
Arnt magnetic fields meant to have severe effects on the way your brain works?
Those healing magnets are meant to be very specifically designed, etc to be healing magnets.
Something like this could easily trigger a whole bunch of non healing emotions. Who wants to see the wallstreet business man (already on the edge) even more stressed out because of his new phone+headset.
