Contestants must take code snipets from Real M$ applications and make some thing that REALLY functions and DOES what they planned it to do, and it won't cost a fortune to build, and can be done in a matter of 10 hours.
The bottom line is "Do you want to exchange performance for battery life?" and "Do you not want to have to purchase a wireless card (sd/pcmcia)?" For some, that may be appealing, however, not a big enough reason for thoes of us who would hopefully know better. I for one enjoy a snappy machine.
It would appear that a standard for licensing is something that Redmond or other similar entities would want. This also sounds like another attempt to make GPL/GNU software a less then desirable product through restrictions on purchase (i.e. Sorry, we cannot purchase open source software, we must purchase software that has a license approved by my State or Federal government).
It puzzles me to realize that most of these people (RIAA, etc.) would blame file sharing as THE ONLY reason why the industry is experiencing a down turn. I realze that there would be some economic fall out. BUT! How about the fact that 10's of 1,000's of people being laid off has a significant impact on any economy?!?! If my 10 year old son can figure it out, why can't the RIAA figure it out as well? I guess it must be the NEW math they are teaching in school these days...
A place to drop off your un-wanted and abused engineers! (Just put them in the cage, and don't forget to donate some money to feed them... while they await adoption)
Hmm... sounds like when ISDN first came out.... remember when for the first time, it didn't disconnect and you were billed by the hour over x hours? How many people got bills for 100's if not 1000's of dollars? I wonder how long it would take for IBM to recoup it's costs after a few locked up applications hanging a cpu thread? Not long if you run M$ type applications.
^-Alt-Del (Werd Not responding, but still billing)
I find it hilarious that they would post something on a PUBLICly available webserver and NOT password protect information that you would not want published ahead of schedule and expect that they should be able to sue someone for their ACTS OF STUPIDITY?!?!?!
Can you imagine what it would be like? Oh, wait a sec... Nevermind...
Anyone want to bet that their admin is a paper ""? can you spel see-kuritie awe-fisher?
Bottom line in my opinion, it appears as though the programmers at M$ can't program (at least securely), so they need to rely on hardware to catch their bugs. What ever happened to pride in ones work? I could see it now... "Gee, guess I better hack out 100,000 more of code today, so I can buy that other benz tonight...yeah, the sel edition..."
BTW, has anyone at all addressed what the concequences are going to be for the little guy who is just starting out (freeware/shareware)? I wonder who will controll the signing and how much they will charge, or how long the process will take.

hmmm... You are treading in shark infested waters...
M$ claims prior art on this one...
That's assuming that your workstation is up long enough to make it through the on-line poll.
Wait until they change it again later
