When I was in college they had bar code scanners for the parking gates. That was easy enough to duplicate. But, right when I was leaving they switched to mag stripes. Now it's easy for a new generation to figure them out and make working cards.
I cant see why miles are used. Is it to make the achieved distance look longer?
I would guess it's because it's a competition held in the US. If you told someone there how many feet, yards, or meters it was then most people wouldn't really get how far that distance really it.
The human body is possibly the most complex "machine" or "system". The feedback system and way the body responds to things is hardly understod. Doctors and scientists have barely scratched the surface in these areas.
So, from an engineering point of view to put replace and old "subsystem" with a new one that does not operate in the same way leaves for repercussions that you or the experts cannot imagine.
Just because you don't agree with the law doesn't mean you should break it.
I wonder how hard it would have been for him to get approved pictures. The site was helping them make money. They could have given him rights to the pictures n stuff. But, he could have asked.
Is the MPAA really the dumb. Let me get something straight...
She site helps sales of their products (DVDs) and build hype around the show so more people can get into the show. And, they are complaining. wtf is wrong with them. Did the MPAA smoke one to many crack pipes. A site that costs you nothing and helps you earn money.
The MPAA needs to learn a little something about advertising. Especially when it's free to them.
iPod plays ACC encoded files. ACC is not apples format. Other people could technically encoded in ACC if the licensed that. The ACC licensing I believe is handled by a devision of Dolby.
This is something I never thought I would hear Ted Turner say. I never thought I'd hear him stick up for the little guy. What interest of his does this serve?
Are we sure M$ doesn't have some patent now that could cause some trouble on this. At their rate of getting patents on technology/already-dev-tech they will have a patent on everything.
They are just paranoid. They forgot their tin foil hats. It's like recording it on your vcr. They are just worried about distribution. With my upstream I would never try to upload a 2+ hour video.
The only way to keep private data private is to memorize all the info, burn the paper its on, delete is and format the hard drives it was on and always remember to wear your tin foil hat.
if you want to get the attourney general to follow through then someone just has to steal his identity. I'm sure that will lead to some nice prossecutions.
This is where the lack of security is undershot. Secuity is always talked about with the consumer pc, windows and ie. If you want to get personal data hack the server. Forget the pc. I don't hear much about these area being convered. Banks and the Military seem to have security covered but there are a lot of orginizations with a lot of personal data with not near enough security.
I would say it's less of a biz issue and more of a social issue. Most of society didn't grow up with the kinds of technology advancement we have today.
There is also what I have been told many times. "We've always done it that way, why change." Most people don't like change and that is a big change.
I don't know If I like them collecting all that extra info. But....
If they collected it for all non US persons I wouldn't mind. Although don't they already collect all this info for non US persons. If not, maybe they should.
It would be nice if some members at the mozilla foundation published a lessons learned paper. The things they have learned about making an OSS application successful.
I know one of the things is user interface. They have done that very well. Better than most people realize. The skins, that type of idea is everywhere from cell phones, to just about everything. Everyone likes to customize.

One big problem is that Washington is made up of a lot of lawyers. Like they will allow the money to flow away from them.
Not sure which is more greedy...the record labels or the lawyers. They both want all the money and are not worried about the artist.
One OS
One People
One Nexus
Oh, they do sound more and more like the borg every day.
Everyone just bitches on Slashdot. No wonder nothing ever changes.

Think of all the people that invention has helped out in a bind...
Politicians when they need money for their hookers, no more personal checks.
When all those dirty old men run out of money at the strip club they can hit the atm
And, me when I need bar money late at night (I won't take a credit card cause then there goes the bank)

This could set a standard that the FCC/NFL can't fight.

Does Microsoft have a patent on this kind of single signon? It sure wouldn't suprise me if they have one or one in the works.
Mars has a magnetosphere
Take a tour
How do we know ammonia doesn't last long on mars? Did we take some there and see how long it lasts?

Netscape.. Gee.. I wondered what happened to that company.. Didn't they already get bought up?
FYI as to my AOL comment... they own Netscape now. Make sense?

My money is on either Microsoft Trying to buy it (yeah like that would go though) or AOL. If AOL tried I would fall out of my seat laughing.
