"wireless access will be a separate charge next year."
Where did the overhed come from to setup, install and manage this new network come from. Where did the money come from for equipment, maintainers, etc. There was some overhead that comes out of ticket and other sales.
Wait, how much money do they bring in a year???? Isn't it more than the motion picture industry.
What is the percent increase in industry revenues... isn't it something huge.
And they are crying already. I know just a handful of people with hacked systems. Maybe 1/50 people and I am a tech guy. Are they taking their cue from teh RIAA now.
"but wouldn't life be just a little bit too bland without our favorite enemy?"
SCO is like Vader. What do we do once he's gone. Now granted, SCO is no where near as cool and powerful as Vader but they are our mortal enemy. And we both use a power like the force. Called the net.
Is it just me or are the SCO lawyers trying to drag this out as long as they possibly can. Talk about the lawyers staying on the payroll a long time. They are great lawyers at keeping on the payroll withough ever actually taking this anywhere.
I wonder if this violates any privacy laws. The police just giving out a person information. If they give out what they were arrested for than that could be another issue. Don't you have to sign a waiver before they can give out that kind of info???
FreeBSD ports and packages are both easy to install.
To install samba for example I would go to/usr/ports/net/samba directory and type at the command line "make install" and it would download, compile and install it with the config files and everything going to the right places. Then I just have to config it (such and the folders to share and all that jazz) and it's ready to go. Pretty darn easy. If there are any uninstalled dependencies to run it then the install will detect that something is missing, download, compile and install that too.
FreeBSD actually gives you both ways. The ports if you want to install from source and they make it very very easy to do or from packages. It gives you the best of both worlds and makes the source way pretty easy.
I prefer to use source build for server apps and packages for OO, gimp, etc. I have found that for servers a source build will runn better under heavy use conditions. For desktop apps I have found little or no difference.
"The DOD on the other hand seems to be really interested in cheap, reliable and fast launch."
The DoD wants more than inexpensive, reliable and fast to launch. They have to consider many more things that cost a lot of money. When it gets to the mil specs and the requirements they put on a subcontractor, well you can see why a happer costs $100. There is a lot you don't see until you work in the industry. And it's all about what the military expects and there is almost always a good reason for it. And the reason is usually safety
Will these hold up to the intense specs NASA has? That is one reason things are so expensive. Previously mentoned on/. about how some gears were in backwards yet never broke is an example of how tough the specs are. Then there is all the testing that needs to be done which is expensive. Will these meet all the NASA and other space agence requirements to use??? Will they meet Military specs to be used by the miliraty?? They may only be able to be used by comercial industry if they aren't up to spec.
So are you saying the previous distributions of linux weren't general purpose operating systems or that they weren't completely from open source software. Was say redhat 9 not general purpose??? Isn't FreeBSD general purpose and all open source??
"There's only one game I'd like to play on the Xbox"
You are missing out on the games then. I have 2 for you to try. Ninja Gaiden and Ghost Recon. Oh, and get xbox live too. You will never go do anything else again.
It's called a sugar mama... all you need to do is get one. I did and it changed my world. She busys me toys to keep me entertained. Sometimes I feel like a dog just playing with the toys my owner bought. But then I play with my cool toys and don't care.
They deregulated the phone companies having ILECs (The big companies who own the lines) let the CLECs (the little guy who wants to get into the home) use their lines. It has worked so far for phones (with of course some implementation problems but its still working)
this is of course an idle threat.... and i can prove it by asking just one question.... who wants a canadian product????? hell, the canadians i know don't buy canadian products.
It was a test to see how stoned all the canadian readers are. I see you were one of them.
It's sort of different. Where has the US gone to a country and told them to go against their laws. This isn't trying to influence us, the WTO is telling us our laws are wrong. By the constitution they are not wrong to us and we are not under some world law.
The US may go influence other countries but when do we tell them to go against laws of their country.
This violates to many laws to be true. Must be an april fools joke.
Although, I bet there is someone over at M$ freaking out that someone will discover that this is a hidden secret already in windows.

This will be just another excuse to raise the price of hot dogs and beer.
Is this something I would really want to use. Who would surf the net while watching a game. Why go to a game then.

"I wouldn't have minded if a respectable lawyer had contacted me"
1 question to ask yourself:
Are respectable lawyers sending out spam junkmail? I would guess no.
Oh, there is one more....is there really a respectable lawyer???
"Is it just me or should this type of information be private until you are actually convicted of something?"
It makes you wonder why medical records, bank records, military records and so many others are private but arrest records are open to the public.
I wonder if this violates any privacy laws. The police just giving out a person information. If they give out what they were arrested for than that could be another issue. Don't you have to sign a waiver before they can give out that kind of info???

Check your cookies and see if they are enabled. I don't see why it wouldn't work in safari. Probubally a security setting.

Good gambling is quite a skill. It is a talent and an art.
I guess they figure that we are bad gamblers and want our money. If my friends are any indicator then they are right.

So, I guess this means gambling will be available everywhere. Watch out... the Indians might form a war party and go after the WTO.
