"Stay away from porn and you don't have to worry about this way of spammers getting your email address."
Yeah, like that is really going to happen. The internet would crash if that happened. So many internet accouts would be caneceled that ISPs would go out of business. It would be the doom of the internet.
"+ Realistically, the software & hardware costs aren't going to be significantly different between Windows and Linux. Yes, you can download Linux for free, but your boss is going to pay real money for RedHat or SuSE."
Yes, you will pay real money for them but Windows XP Pro is $300 compared to Redhat at $180 is still a cost savings. A $120 savings per machine can add up quickly and doesn't even take office software into account.
"+ Unix admins are more expensive than Windows admins, although they generally have a much higher skill level. Maybe as Linux penetrates the market, this will equalize (both in cost and skill level)."
It takes less unix admins than windows admins. I have worked on both sides of the fence and in my experience it takes less unix admins. They may cost more per admin but it takes less to do the same job.
"+ MS selected specific scenerios to favor them. For example, File and Print have never been a strong spot for Unix -- Novell and MS have owned that segement for years and years. It will be interesting to see what Novell/SuSE puts on the market."
Have you looked at Samba 3 as how it compares to microsoft windows 2003 for file sharing....in independent tests it was reported to be 2.5 times faster at the same activities (this was reported on/.)
They make points but sometimes you have to look deeper. They may look good to the untrained eye but aren't really that great of points.
Or, will the system say you shoplifted even though you really didn't. And then you get busted for it, serve jail time. If microsoft had a back door to the system they could control it all themselves and get and trach whom ever they want.
This is all part of their sceme to rule the world. I wonder if Pinky and the Brain are really behind it all at Microsoft. I mean bill kind of looks like the Brain.
RFID tags can be a very useful tool in some industries. In the field I work it has the potential to save millions of dollars. But, here comes Microsoft. To have them involved usually means some proprietary standard pushed and all kinds of licensing costs. This I don't like. The licensing fees alone could negate the profits the technology is even good for.
To be honest I am not suprised one bit. I watched every episode of TNG. But from there the series weren't as good. Each one is a little worse than the one before it. They ahve lost the magic and the method that made it great.
The magic that captured us was that TNG wasn't about space or the technology but about the people. Enterprise always seemed like it didn't make the grade there. It isn't a drama the way it needs to be for success.
This is a geek thing. Don't geeks stay inside all day. Where will they see the light to recharge? From their car to the house? From their house to work? That's like a minute a day.
But, this in the USA....that stuff doesn't matter. It's about convienance and neatness. Enviornmental what? Cost effective what? Actually worth owning what?
For the kinds of data mining that would be done this cost vs the benefit will easily pay for iteslf. If it works as advertised. There is a huge speed problem in doing data mining currently. If this can solve that then there are a lot of companies that will jump on it.
There are many organizations that need better ways to analyze their info. There are databases that are terabytes in size and have to do detailed searches. With SQL databases that can take a long time and any faster way can save a lot of time and money. There is a big need for this technology across many industries.
SO, could my closet be a boewolf cluster??? Imagine the power in that.
So, with wireless... could a bunch of people standing in line be a beowolf cluster.

Porn, the foundation of the internet. It will never go away or die. It has more uses then we can even imagine.
wow, it has a 5 star rating there. Isn't the world fooled with what a good OS is.

"Seriously. Does anyone believe "standards" created by companies?"
Yeah, those at Microsoft do.

Just wait until the system gets a virus. I can see it now... the systems orders truck loads of beans and toliot paper.
Yeah, but printing quality isn't why most are so bad at displaying information.

I just have to ask....will the power controller run linux???

I mean by this that most Logistics Orgainzations will have propritary info that they won't let IBM house.
I wonder how long until IBM sells this setup. If it works well Logistics Orginazations would love to get their hands on it.
Could the less use of legos be due to video games???? I think so. Why use your imaginagtion when someone else can do it for you.
