However in a Australia, whilst it would be fairly easy to shut down the cell phone network, there is so many leaky holes out of the country for internet (much of international bandwidth is in the control of Universities etc for example) that I don't think the Government would be able to do it.

They can't even implement an internet filter that is their policy, let alone shut it off.

It isn't meant to have the same resolution as the retina, it is meant to have sufficient resolution at reading distance, just that pixels are not detectable by the retina. Also remember, the colour resolution of the eye is far poorer than the b&w resolution of the eye, and the aim here is about colour. So I think the original statement by Steve is squishy enough to hold up to this scrutiny.

He inferred this was because whilst in Europe they called him by name, when in USA they called him by value.

Linux has far too many varieties already, it makes mainstream hardware and software support almost impossible.

And they want to fork the only consistent bit ?

If they want to do a desktop version, it's time for the kernel developers to branch out into standardising Desktop libraries, desktops (KDE vs Gnome), devices, packages etc etc... so that we can have our 1000 versions of Linux and a single underlying version of Desktop Linux.

Maybe then, Linux may make a dent in the world of Desktop Windows.

VISTA - was designed to suck, from the ground up it's a vacuum cleaner. This means, fundamentally that there is no hope of a reasonable outcome.

Windows 2000, Windows XP were reasonable workstation operating systems with bugs, Windows VISTA is a disgusting experience with bugs.
