  5. IP Addresses per Country - Will this work? on McAfee Granted Firewall Patent · · Score: 1

Wait now - this will trace the IP Address to physical location? But what if I work in a company with my HQ in the US. I get a B Class of IP addresses and break it up internally across the world. Thus even though the IP address is registered as US the user could be in Germany and could be accessing the Internet through Cork? Thus the trace gives the location of the 'Owner' of the IP range, but this may not be the physcial location of the user! Think about it!

  7. Assertiveness on Preventing/Resolving Interoffice Conflict? · · Score: 2, Insightful

Not sure if this will help but.... You have two kinds of people in an office. Confrontational people - they fight and bully etc. Submissive people - the ones the Confrontational people bully etc. Funnilly the Confrontational people think that they are being Assertive. They are not. That is what the Submissive person must learn to do. How to be Assertive in three steps? 1. Be honest about what relevant - don't call the other guy an asshole - it is not relevant and makes you Confrontational. 2. Pick you bottom line and stick to it - What is the minimum you need from this situation? Decide that and stick to wanting this. Keep saying what you want again and again and again and again...... it sounds stupid, but the other person breaks down after a while. If you don't do this then you are Submissive. 3. Treat the other person like a human being - simple as that. It shows respect and you should get it back. Thanks Jay

  22. Computer Science on Computer Studies w/o Excessive Coding? · · Score: 5, Insightful

This sounds familier to me. I did a Computer Science degree in UCC (big Uni in Cork Ireland) and you would not believe the amount of people in my class who only realised what Computer Science was once they were in the course. A lot of them just wanted to 'do stuff with computers' and did not want to actually learn how to code, or build hardware etc. I guess the best example was when a class mate said to me - 'This class is stupid, we haven't even been thought how to use Windows or Excel'. I responded with: 'No, here we are meant to learn how to write the next Windows (O/S) or Excel (Applications). I finished the course in 1999 and got my Degree - and went into a job where no coding was required (Network Security). However I still find every Theory class useful. Example, I was on the Cisco Advanced Routing Course and the instructor was covering OSPF (a dynamic routing Protocol). He was of the opinion that no one could know what SPF was, but I knew this from my algoriths course in 3rd year. My advice to the poster is to understand what computer science is. If they want to do something with Systems and People, then a course like the BIS (Business Information Systems) course at UCC is useful. But if you really want to know the maths and theory of computers - I recommend Computer Science. Thanks Jay
