  1. Get an internship on Which Language Approach For a Computer Science Degree? · · Score: 1

I learned the most from an internship. I got to see code that others had written...good and bad. Try to modify it. Write my own bad code (that I thought was good at the time) over and over again until I learned what good code was.

OK. I'll bite... " it is almost certain it will see an [unrecoverable read error]." What? Like most stats the 12 terabytes failure rate doesn't mean anything. If it were true, then the servers I have running 4 terabyte arrays would be failing all the time.

  5. Did you tell your Boss? on Getting Hired As an Entry-Level Programmer? · · Score: 1

  6. You chose ReiserFS for MythTV? on Best Shrinkable ReiserFS Replacement? · · Score: 3, Informative

Did you read the documentation? From http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-3.html#ss3.1
    Filesystems
MythTV creates large files, many in excess of 4GB. You must use a 64 or 128 bit filesystem. These will allow you to create large files. Filesystems known to have problems with large files are FAT (all versions), and ReiserFS (versions 3 and 4). Because MythTV creates very large files, a filesystem that does well at deleting large files is important. Numerous benchmarks show that XFS and JFS do very well at this task. You are strongly encouraged to consider one of these for your MythTV filesystem. JFS is the absolute best at deletion, so you may want to try it if XFS gives you problems. MythTV .21 incorporates a "slow delete" feature, which progressively shrinks the file rather than attempting to delete it all at once, so if you're more comfortable with a filesystem such as ext3 (whose delete performance for large files isn't that good) you may use it rather than one of the known-good high-performance file systems. There are other ramifications to using XFS and JFS - neither offer the opportunity to shrink a filesystem; they may only be expanded. NOTE: You must not use ReiserFS v3 for your recordings. You will get corrupted recordings if you do.

It looks like Microsoft is so cheap on security that they couldn't even spring for a long enough cable to the projector to keep it from hanging down in the middle of the conference room table. Someone should tell them that the shortest is not always the best route.

  10. Re:Why? on New Gentoo 2007.0 Release Gets Mixed Review · · Score: 1

One of the central themes of Gentoo is choice. Adding a graphical installer gives the user one more choice. They are not trying to turn it into a "newbie" distro, it already is a great disro for those that want to learn about linux -- which is exactly what a newbie needs to do. Gentoo was my first distro and it helped me learn a lot about how the operating system works. You can install distros like Ubuntu or Redhat and never understand even simple things like fstab. When it comes to work I don't have time to wait on everything to compile and use debian, but a lot of my linux knowledge came from being a newbie using gentoo

We can easily prove that the earth is much older and formed over a much longer time than specified in the Christian bible, Easily prove? How? One of the biggest problems with evolution is the amount of time needed for it to occur. The billions of years needed for evolution run into serious problem with the fact that the Sun is shrinking http://www.icr.org/article/165/ and the Moon is moving away from the Earth http://www.icr.org/article/204/. Both of these natural clocks show that the Earth could not be old enough for evolution to occur.

  16. Re:I don't know about the game on Wal-Mart Asked to Drop Christian Video Game · · Score: 1

Unless of course God chose to reveal Himself differently; we cannot begin to understand His ways, nor divine His intentions with respect to his covenents with us. Jesus said "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me." John 14:6
You can't believe the bible and make the statement that God reveals himself in different ways or that all religions will get you to heaven. Either Jesus is who he say is and can do what says he can do or he is a liar. He couldn't have just been a good man or a prophet because if was not God, then he is a liar and a liar is not a prophet or a good man.
