Hmm, spend my time finding a review site I trust, or several sites which seem to agree (which to me is like the problem of the man with two watches - because they don't agree, he never knows what time it is)

Harness the power of the/. collective by reading all the replies to my post. Granted, that doesn't always work - since not every post attracts a useful cross-section of opinions, but I now know what products I should go look at if I decide that AVG isn't cutting it.
It's definitely a step up from Norton in terms of detection rate... which I can confirm with a sample of 2 out of 2 machines being "clear" according to NAV, and infected and cured according to AVG.
(Look, I couldn't very well let this article go by without comment...)
Just keep your facts to yourself Sir. We've got a few houses to burn down in the area... with all this talk about "reading the effing article", I think a call to the fire station might be in order. Sounds like you might have a book or two in there.
Was reading about this earlier, and the $1300 dollar steak dinner is a bit of a red herring. The story is that Jimmy asked for it to be covered, and it was refused. So, he's not abusing the expense account, he's only trying to... and there was at least one "check and balance" in place to keep it from happening.
As for the stuff about Marsden, I'd take it with some grains of salt attached. She's a nutbar, and has been well-covered in the Canadian media for potential false allegations of sexual misconduct against an athletic coach of hers, stalking (on her part), getting fired, etc.
Jimmy Wales is likely guilty of letting wealth and fame go to his head, but he's had a LOT of help getting there.
Actually, "Carc" had a huge following long before the 360, the licensing deal was made to shut down the possibiities of a "Scrabulous" like port coming up - quite a number of decent Carcasonne knock-offs exist on the web already.
A chicken&egg thing to be sure, as the end result was the same (a licensed version of the game where everyone is happy), but the motivation was not as you suggest.
I'm disgusted by the timing of this article / leak / public service annoucement / blatant electioneering. How to best distract people from the fact that the world doesn't seem to be any safer since 6 years and a week ago?
It's been said a million times... in THIS VERY THREAD already. The proper system already existed with court orders and the FISA courts. The current Administration couldn't be bothered with that, so they've invented new rules that are an attempt to enshrine they're desire not to bother permanently.
It's IMPLEMENTABLE NOW... because it was already in place for years and working.
9/11 was a failure of the data analysis end of the spy business [brought on in my personal opinion by a firm belief that no one would be stupid enough to attack America, "we're the toughest nation on Earth", which was held in all the top jobs in Washington].
The power grab since then has all been about covering up that failure and that lack of awareness of the rest of the world so that no one who was in a position of power back then needs to admit to themselves privately that they f@#$@ed up.
realize most here on slashdot probably won't agree with this, and think that "copyright", or at least its current form in the US, which is the basis for prohibiting things like recording in movie theaters, ought to be done away with completely.
Actually, I don't believe that the prevailing view on/. is that copyright should be done away with. It's more that the infinite extensions to copyright should be done away with, and a return to some measure of sanity such as "10 years from date of first release" would make far more sense.
However, this "regular business" has seen fit to brand everyone who purchases blank media in Canada a "potential pirate", negotiated a surcharge on said blank media to offset the cost of piracy to them, collected money on those surcharges for years, and refused to allow a public accounting of how the money is dispersed to the artists who they claim are being damaged... thereby creating the very public perception that they are keeping the money, and screwing both the public AND the artists.
Therefore, I don't have the choice to simply "not buy it", since I'm paying the surcharge anyway.
Now they're over the line... and since they don't care, I don't care.
You mean like a lot of the private NWN servers were?
I played extensively on two different ones a couple of years ago, and you never saw griefers or l33t speakers there.
Roleplaying abounded... too bad NWN2 didn't have Linux support right out of the box, killed off both servers when the admins couldn't upgrade, but the players wanted the new toys.
Hey man, leave me out of this.
Do you know how hard it is to be a fireman these days?
Burning ebooks gives off no warmth whatsoever... Brrrr.
... fo' shISSle my nISSle!

Just switched from Norton to AVG this weekend. Pure coincidence. Honest. I had no advanced knowledge this was coming or anything. ;-)
Like the story's poster, The Illustrated Man changed my life. ... as might be calculated from my Nick.

This is the single most brilliant comment I've ever read on /.
You sir, are a man among men.
Of course, in the spirit of the thread, I should have just responded "Me too!"
Obviously by killing everyone who disagrees. Or looks different. Or believes in a different mythos than you...
Wouldn't that be "Don't tase me, Robbie" in this case?
Must. Resist. Catholic Priest Joke.

In Western Canada, they're known as "Texas Gates".
"oh-ee-oh"
Well, he can already do a voice over part of the Flying Monkey Chorus if they ever remake the Wizard of Oz.
This tech is so cool it's not funny.
I knew that.

They have no shame.

Right then. The Producers would like to apologize for the previous two posts. Those responsible have been sacked.
