    I find your post humourous.

In my experiences, Canada Post has been far more reliable than USPS has ever been. And I've shipped hundreds (perhaps thousands) of things using both systems.

Except the Saturday delivery thing. That's pretty sweet.

  2. I guess I'm naive. on USPS Ending Overnight First-Class Letter Service · · Score: 1

I always thought that the post offices would be OK because with the Internet, sure we're sending way less letter mail, but package deliveries must be through the roof compared to what they were before. Most people do shittonnes of ordering on the Internet now.

  3. I'll probably always own a TV. on TV Ownership Declines For Second Time Since 1970 · · Score: 1

Although if it weren't for live sporting events, I'd have dumped cable/satellite by now. Netflix gives me enough of what I need as far as programming goes, and with dumbass networks like NBC shelving wonderful shows like Community while keeping shit like 'the Biggest Loser', I see no reason to support their bullshit.

If NHL Centre Ice would give me all 82 games of my favourite team, I'd drop satellite like a bad habit.

The TV stays though; if nothing else, it's used by Netflix/the game consoles/whatever.

  4. I've never had an issue. on How Does a Self-Taught Computer Geek Get Hired? · · Score: 1

I have *no* post-secondary education. I was done with highschool right around the time when the .com boom was happening, so I joined in the chasing of the pie in the sky.

Since then, I've worked for household names. None of them have cared. The most I've gotten in an interview is,

"I've noticed your resume doesn't have an education section."
"That's because I don't have one -- I've been doing this because I love it since I was a kid -- writing code professionally since I was 14, and doing it ever since."
    "Oh, alright."

The job offer usually comes after that anyway.

I do it by making sure I attend and give talks at local universities as part of programming groups.
I'm a member of local user groups.
I contribute to open source projects.

All of these are marketable skills that I point out on my resume. Add that with my work history, and it's never really been an issue. I'm lucky enough now where most of my last few jobs have come from the company coming to me, not the other way around.

So in short: keep bettering yourself, try and get involved in extracurricular activities that are relevant to your field, and be prepared for the questions when interview time comes.
