I think if people call anything in, the cops are supposed to investigate. It just covers their butts so they can't be called negligent.
I have a funny story about the cops showing up at a LAN party. We had a 24 hour LAN party ata local computer shop, and a few people decided to leave at 5AM, instead of staying until it ended at 10AM. I guess some neighbors thought it looked a little suspicious to have as dozen people walking out of a computer shop at 5AM and load computers into their cars. About 1/2 hour later, 4 squad cars pulled in and started asking questions about what was going on. They stayed around for 1/2 hour, talking to the only employee there, who, if you were looking for someone suspicious, would be the first suspect. They left, but the same incident happened a few weeks later at the next one. Now the owners of the store call before they have a LAN. It was kinda funny, but I guess they were doing their job.
... if billy boy thinks windows is so much better than Linux, and he keeps getting in trouble for having it preinstalled, then why doesn't he agree to have Linux preinstalled, and include a windows cd?
I just want to know how you can watch the movie and hear it on the same cell phone without having a headphone jack of some sort. I can just picture someone with the phone at their ear trying to look at it.
First off, why is this article not on the front page?
Second, I don't see anything denying the ability to create a Linux port. Is this right? I must admit I'm very surprised to hear this. I've never heard of this game, but I'm intrigued by the fact that Microsoft is releasing source code to the public!
Is this some sort of trick? I find it ironic that microsoft is giving allegiance to open source. Sure, it's not free (as in liberated), but it's a step in the right direction.
Umm, the modem determining the speed is kind of how it's done in the networking world, AFAIK. In a WAN (Wide Area Network) connection, there are 2 ends, the DCE and DTE. The DTE is the ISP end. It is essentially dependant on the DCE to set the clock rate. A router can be configured to set the clock rate, but I don't think the modem can be set to listen to it.
So with the wireless communication on this thing, how long before people getting these start getting spammed as they walk by places. If you are walking through a mall, people would all be sending you information on their lastest sales. This could have the positive effect of more competition between stores, and the prices going down, but wouldn't it be annoying?
On the other hand, it could be used by some of the more desperate geeks to spam their phone number/e-mail address to others. Then again, the reciever would need to have one also, so the chances of finding a female would be slim...
Even if that were the case, how hard is it to reverse the bits of whatever iso you are burning before doing the actual burn? Think about it, that's an easy hardware solution.
Actually, it isn't even as simple as that. AFAIK, CD's are written to in the same fashion as records were/are, to some extent. The data (or music) is laid out in a spiral. If the disc is burned from the inside out, while spinning clockwise, the laser/needle will move outward when the disc is spinning clockwise, as you would expect. Now if you want to read from the outer edge in, you have to either spin the disc the opposite direction, or have it "wound" the other direction. To see this effect, try to get a record to read from the inside out while it is still spinning clockwise. It is impossible.
I was going to tell you that that was too much information. But then I admit that sometimes I come with pretty neat solutions to programming problems during my visit to the toilet. Maybe Billy G. did the same? X-D
Actually, it seems you are partially correct. Bill gets all of his ideas upon visits to the toilet. This time, however, he sat down instead of picking something out.
Does anyone know who the character is that flashes on the screen ~36 sec into the movie? They are pale and laying on the table. Is this supposed to be Neo? Perhaps a double?
Commercials before movies have one redeeming quality, at least for people like me who are perpetually late! I can get there 20 minutes late and I will be actually right on time. I don't mind that. But it is annoying when I try to get into a movie on opening weekend and I have to sit through them. I guess it gives me an excuse to go to the arcade.
I don't quite uderstand how that is ranked. That particular guess was ranked 2399 out of 2421. That means that 22 people did worse! Also, Perhaps that is a joke name? If it was in the "last name, first name" format, as names are printed many times, it would be SeGall, Bill (Seagull Bill). As in the beak of a seagull. It could also be a coincidence, as I have a friend who's recently born son was named Caine Novak, written as "Novak, Caine" (Novacaine). I think perhaps she was in pain when she named him? But by the time she realized that the name worked like that, she had already filled out the birth certificate and notified relatives.
If he really wanted that, he *could* put it in the kernel. Root access at the kernel level could be arranged by someone with his knowledge. Fortunately, the Open Source Model allows others to see the code, and that would be taken out...
Wouldn't this be incredibly insecure? The data could be easily intercepted. But on the other hand, it seems to be the trend that many companies entrust their confidential files to a bunch of birdbrains, so it might not be that different....
Not everyone would want/need software, as many of us at Slashdot might think they do. But most people like music. Of course, a lot of music is not distributable, but there are some bands that do not mind distribution, and many that would welcome the publicity. If many of these are installed around the world, some up and coming bands might want to show their stuff to people. With the demise of mp3.com and the RIAA dictatorship, this could be quite a market. Anyone else think so?
Greg
Libraries probably don't have software because of the strict copying licenses. There was a video rental place in my area a few years back that also rented out computer games. They got shut down, probably because of the copying of the games.
I'm sorry, I'm going to have to report you to the local drug police...
But what about the Superbowl? I want to be able to see something like Janet's "performance" over and over again...
[/sarcasm]
The car should be programmed to discover any problems under the bonnet, then send a message to the garage to let them know.
The mechanics would then contact the women directly to invite them over.
I've dated a few too many girls with problems under the bonnet, so the mechanics han have them...
oh wait, they mean the hood!

I was checking numbers and I found out that my dad's work number spells 5-to-a-toy, which is kinda weird considering that he's an engineer...
I hate picking on misspellings, but I just think that was funny! With my luck, I'll misspell something, too.

You know, I expected to see the number 1984 in this article about DRM, just not in this context.
Everybody knows apples don't get viruses, they get worms!

It says it has not been rated, yet it also shows a picture of the box at the same time, that clearly has an M in the rating spot... Mystery solved!

This is about the worst gaming decisions of 2003. Wouldn't Valve's Steam fall under that category?

Yay, I can wear T-Shirts, as long as my arms are included...
