"Yep. Look bad to a Canadian cop and you find yourself guilty until proven innocent - and you'd better have proof on you."
Way off topic, but my mom was watching some movie on Lifetime last night when I got home, and I saw a brief bit of it. Basically a guy from California was driving some rich old lady all over the county in his California license-plated taxi cab. He'd taken her to some famous funeral and stuff, and was apparently quite the celebrity for it.
So he was taking her to some fancy place in Canada so she could have tea, and they passed a Canadian cop car sitting on the shoulder. The cop pulled out behind them, his dialogue to the station via radio going something like this:
"Taxi cab...California plates...look suspicious. In pursuit. Those are definitely California tags, probable stolen vehicle. There appears to be someone in the front seat as well, we have a hostage/kidnap situation, requesting backup..."
Afterward half the Canadian police force came out to help pull this cab over and manhandle the driver quite roughly. Lucky the cranky old lady had the newspaper article showing what he had done and stuff, and they let them go. But I just found your comment amusing on the basis of having seen that part of that movie.
I swear. They asked the wrong people if they didn't get results that the ringtones are annoying. People choose the most obnoxious ringtones imaginable and pump them out as loud as those little phones are able.
People really need to learn to use the vibrate function more often and spare the rest of us. I know the only time my phone makes any noise is when the battery is low, and thats only because I can't turn that particular beep off. Its a courtesy thats sadly lacking, keeping cell phones discreet and quiet.

I believe they had 5 scripts left over, 2 or 3 of which needed serious reworking. But I'm rather sure the sets are fully intact. Not so sure if the artists have found a decent place to sit while drawing them, however.
"How sad is it that even with free admission I don't want to go to the movie theatre?"
Given whats playing the last time I checked, its not too surprising. Concerning movie theatres vs watching movies at home, the theatre is supposed to be an experience, not just watching a movie. Sadly the experience is usually manifested as frustration/irritation given the state of movie theatres today. The best theatre in my region ($9 admission) has such a nasty time with parking that they started a valet service for those who don't want to have to park on the opposite side of the mall to see a movie. And if you see a late movie that lets you out after the mall is closed, you have to walk the long way round. I don't mind it, but I know most people don't much care for it. And after the parking, there are as you mentioned the lines, the loud obnoxious people, cell phones, incompetent staff. All adds up to a frustrating, unenjoyable time quite often.
Actually I will watch pretty much any movie out there. I'm routinely criticized by friends for my lack of standards for movies. But I refuse to pay extravagant amounts for them. I will watch any movie at least once for free. And if I like it, I buy it. I have a DVD library of over 300 movies, growing steadily, ranging from early classics to the modern stuff, and pretty much everything inbetween. Included in there is a lot of stuff that was extravagantly popular, and much that was considered utter trash. Frankly, by the standards that consider realityTV to be awesome stuff, I'm rather proud of the number of unpopular movies and TV shows I like.
Frankly, one person's awesome movie is utter crap to another. The fact that I've studied Tolkien academically, and practically have the books memorized, lends me an interest in the movies even if they were to be crap. Noticing the differences and theorizing why changes were made is a fun mental exercise. Its pointless in the end, but it lends me enjoyment, so I do it. And since the majority of TV shows in existance are boring tripe that aggravate me and detract enjoyment, I don't watch them.
You really need to watch the accusations of close-mindedness, however. Because someone doesn't share your taste in TV or movies is not an indicator of being close-minded. You fail to even mention the remaining entirety of entertainment available out there, such as books, periodicals, music, and other more physically involving activities that tend to contribute towards a person's attitudes. But since you're posting AC, I know you're not concerned with a balanced argument, and merely wanted to toss out some movie names and accuse people who disagree with your viewpoints.
Yeah, I know family guy is coming back. Sometime in 2005. It should never have gone away in the first place, though. One can only hope that DVD sales will have the same effect on Firefly before the sets get scrapped and the chances of reviving it shift from unlikely to impossible.
Never was a big fan of stargate, it never managed to hold my attention for a complete episode. Ditto for Babylon 5, which I know a lot of/.ers liked as well. So those don't play any factor in my tv watching decisions.
The only current production shows I watch are Simpsons, and Malcom in the Middle. And those are sporadic viewings at best, usually while doing work or playing UT. I do tend to leave the TV on SpikeTV for TNG reruns or Bond marathons, however.
If they would stop cancelling my shows...

As it is now, I've got FG on dvd, I've recorded every ep of Seven Days, I've seen every ep. of ST:TNG multiple times, and I'll be getting the Firefly dvds as soon as monetary situation allows. So why should I keep watching TV? Enterprise is utter crap. Reality TV is of course abysmal and should just go away entirely. And I've never liked a sitcom really. They all annoy me. The really creative/funny shows are marginalized and replaced to pander to the demographics, and when the demographics dont like whats being pandered to them, the producers just don't understand why...
Its the same reason I don't even bother going to the movie theatre anymore. Went to see LotR, and thats the last movie I see myself paying for in theatres for a long time. Even Pixar's newest offerings will probably be relegated to 'wait for dvd' status. I'd rather spend $15 on a dvd than go see a movie in theatres, as its not much more pricewise and I can then view multiple times. And since 90% of my favorite tv shows are either on DVD now, or coming to DVD soon, why should I keep watching it live with commercials?
Sorry, wandered around a bit there, but just felt like ranting some.
Where was this 19.95 low end palm device? Linkage? Cuz I need something new to read ebooks on, as my Visor Edge is dying, and since my scheduling needs are really nonexistant, I cant see paying hundreds for a new palmOne POS or a PocketPC, when all I really want is to be able to read my ebooks:)
How does Comcast and 90% of other cablecos get around that problem then? Since GMP is one of the few that doesn't offer internet separately from cable?
Heh, i've got GMP Express for my cable modem. They require extended basic cable to have cable modems...brings the total for my broadband to $82 a month. For shitty cable modem service. And DSL isnt available, and never will be.
I'm very close to just getting satellite internet and accepting those lag issues, just to stop feeding my money to corrupt cablecos.
Gah. Wish I had your problem. A phoneline is cheap. I have to pay $82 a month for my cable modem because they require extended basic cable at my ISP. They're worried about people stealing cable if they just sell cable modem service. Nevermind the fact that I've got DirecTV with superior channels...
'For 99% of the players that means "Blizzard bans your keygen-generated CD key you used to install your warezed copy".'
Ummm. No. That means that you've been banned for griefing (backstabbing) or maphacking, in Warcraft 3. In diablo II its item hacks and other goodies. It is not keygen cd keys. Keygen cd keys have never worked on battle.net, unless you were lucky enough to randomly generate a key blizzard had already distributed, and then that person will get rather irked and notify blizzard.
I tried back in the days of Starcraft, believe me I tried (I've bought 3 copies of the game and can never find the jewel cases when I want them). Blizzard has a cd-key whitelist or something, only keys that have actually gone onto shipped cds are valid on b.net. And when a key gets deactivated, its gone forever.
Yeah, it made me sad growing up to watch the disappearance of the HB characters. Used to park in lots named after chars, hide in Yogi's cave during sudden downpours, see Snagglepuss and Huckleberry Hound suits walking around instead of 6 foot sponges or rugrats.
I've been to the park(kings dominion, VA) at least once a year for my entire life, have some very early memories of it. Makes me see to see the overcommercialized and *very* aggravating nickelodeon crap everywhere now.
They didn't even redo Yogi's cave! They just removed the bears (even left the footprints!) and renamed it. Punks.
I also have had no problems, during thunderstorms, hail, and a snowstorm. Freezing rain had no effect on the dish either. And we've had pretty much all of those here in Southern Maryland in the past 10 days. I love the Directv service. Just wish I had a Tivo to go with it, so I could see those fun programs that come on obscure channels when I'm sleeping or at work.
Altho the directv installer said i might have a problem with this scraggly maple thats near the dish's LOS. When it gets leaves, it could interfere with the signal window. But if that's the case, it gets cut down. Thing is waaay too skinny for its height, and as apt to fall in our next hurricane as all those stupid pine trees.
So I guess the only real signal problems could stem from having nowhere to put the dish due to trees, housing regulations, or terrain.
On the contrary, it is perfectly ontopic for the thread, which up a few parents is asking if there is anything 'must buy' for the xbox, implying that such a game would henceforth make it worth purchasing at all for gaming, versus mods or tinkering. The parent to my original post claimed KOTOR was a valid game in such a category, and I merely disagreed with him that it is not xbox exclusive and thus by no means is worth paying for an xbox and the game when one has a PC already upon which to play the game. That is strictly my opinion and inline/ontopic with discussion of whether or not a $99 xbox brings anything new to the table for games.
