I've heard that Prince is touring this year, playing some pretty large venues. I'm willing to bet that he had to partner with some of the industry villains to pull this off since they control everything from ticketing, to promotion, to venues, etc.
Craps actually gives you the best odds to win in most cases. In fact, certain betting combinations can give the bettor almost even odds with the house.
Franklin County, Ohio (county that Columbus and most of its suburbs are in) has had property photos online for a few years as part of the auditor's property tax database. Anyone can go online and search by street name or owner's last name. Several of the surrounding counties have similar services. In fact, I saw a "camera van" in my neighborhood last year taking updated photos. Had I been thinking, I would've ran home and hung my "All Your Base" sign on the porch.
I certainly do respect the work that teachers do, especially for the comparatively low amount of money that they make. However, for someone to come to this site, where I'd bet the majority of us can't remember the last 40 hour week we worked, and claim that teachers work the longest amount of time is just ridiculous. Many of my co-workers work 45+ hours per week, are on-call around the clock, and do technical reading at home afterhours. Yes, teaching is a tough job, and there typically is more afterhours work to do than your typical 9-5'er.
Forgot to mention the other difference, which is why I've not purchased the EyeHome, is no DVD playback. There seem to be a few similar devices, but each seem to be missing just one key feature. The Gateway has good features and is one of the very few devices that do music streaming as well as DVD viewing but is Windows only, the server software isn't great, and the GUI of the device is poor. There are quite a few devices that support music streaming and photo sharing, but no DVD support. And then there's the "cobble your own" method which starts to get expensive if you want an entertainment center-friendly case and flexible controls that even the wife can use.
The EyeHome device is similar to this Linksys device but supports iTunes playlist streaming as well as iPhoto album viewing. Unfortunately no playback of encoded AAC tracks that you purchase from the iTunes store.
According to this note, with a firmware upgrade to the Gateway player, it will support a Linksys 802.11g card. No idea if other cards are supported. The link also includes a good review of the Gateway. I've been eyeing this device for a few weeks now, about to pull the trigger on a purchase, so this Linksys announcement is timely.
This highlights a bit of a problem with Tivo's latest offerings, one that I bitched about on the Tivo Community forums back when I was still welcome there
Sorry to hear this Otto, I must've missed whatever you did to piss someone off. Where are you hanging out for your TiVo discussion these days?
And I agree 100% with you, TiVo Inc. has no chance in a war against the TiVo hackers. Many hacks that would severely cripple TiVo have remained out of the public eye because TiVo has traditionally been hacker-friendly on most things that don't touch the TiVo service. TiVo's subscription model could be killed by the hacking community in a very short timeframe.
This is a very likely theory since TiVo has been warning for quite a long time against installing images from one manufacturer onto different hardware and against installing outdated versions for the very same reasons you've listed.
Another interesting theory. It was discovered a few weeks ago that the newer software from the standalone TiVo boxes could be installed on the DirecTV boxes to obtain some of the newer functionality that is missing from the DirecTV boxes. Perhaps DirecTV wants those features to remain out of their version and has pressured TiVo?
Agreed, I've been doing this very same thing for the past year. In fact, I haven't had a monitor connected to my XP machine for at least the past 6 months. Occassionally I have to swipe the 15" LCD from my wife's PC for hardware maintenance tasks and such. And with 3389 opened on my work firewall, I can RDP to home and surf with no proxy logging.
What call center are you calling, that requires you to pay? Dell's technical support is free with the computer.
But not necessarily free for the entire life of the product. I don't buy Dell computers, so I can't comment on that specifically. But my company does pay several thousand dollars a year for support from CA, whose call center is also in India. And not coincidentally, we will be dropping CA software at the end of the year primarily because of their poor support, of which the language barrier definitely contributes to.
There may be hope after-all. I called Apple today to cancel my order (planning to get in on the hot deal on refurbed 17") and was told that my order was being sent to shipping today. Could have just been a line, but I hadn't yet told the rep that I was cancelling, and he also was surprised when I told him that my ship date online now showed Nov 24.
As the article stated, this would probably be a deal in the hundreds of millions of dollars since not every customer is going to take advantage of the deal. And I'd bet that McD's only pays for customers that actually download a track, not for every coupon/code that is given to a customer.
The NYT article said that no other details are known. I'd be surprised if this was much different than the Apple/Pepsi deal and McD's current Best Buy deal. I'd envision a peel-off coupon on only their larger size products that contains a code redeemable for 1 downloadable track of your choice.
Perhaps Apple is changing the production line to correct this problem, which would explain why the BTO 15" PB that I ordered on October 23 had its ship date change from Nov 4 to Nov 28 yesterday.
If you look further into DFS, I believe you'll find that you can have multiple servers syncronizing the same share name
The distributed feature would be quite worthless if there wasn't some synchronization taking place to make sure the data was synched across all servers in the DFS namespace.
WiFi can certainly be used for much more than web surfing or email. As mentioned above, there are terminal apps and other such tools for Palm OS that a system admin could use with a WiFi connection. Wireless sync is cool too, and while composing email might be a pain for many with no keyboard, it's still pretty handy to receive and read email while away from the desk.
The judge overruled the FTC because Congress hadn't given the FTC the right to create this do not call list. Congress didn't overrule that judge's decision, they instead took his advice and gave the FTC the right to create this list.
I sure hope you're getting some sort of kick-back from Danger for pimping their product. Hopefully you're just an excited new user, like I was about a year , as it is a pretty cool device for awhile. In the past few months, I've definitely soured on the device after a year of Danger promising things such as desktop sync and app loading were "coming soon". The inability to synch with Outlook or any other desktop PIM is a definite deal-killer for many people, including me. The "sync to their servers" feature is handy in some cases, especially if your device dies and you have to get a replacement (as I've done 3 times so far), your data is automatically restored. I don't know if you have any inside info with some of your "coming soon" predictions or if Danger has given firm expectations, but I won't believe it until I see these things released.
What exactly can I do on it that I can't do on my Danger HipTop (aka T-Mobile SideKick)?
Sync with Outlook? Keep only a single device for a year rather than going through 4 Hiptops that were never dropped but just mysteriously stopped receiving a signal?
Don't get me wrong, I really do like the Hiptop and have used one since the day they were released, but those are my 2 biggest complaints. As soon as there is a comparable device to the Hiptop, I'll be switching. I don't know if this Blackberry is comparable or if the upcoming Treo 600 will be comparable. Danger has done nothing innovative in the past year to bring their neat little device in from the fringes of the market.

Heck, I'd appreciate one too. As a very active Blogger user, I was pretty bummed when many other Bloggers got beta Gmail offers but not me.
Orkut sounds cool, I'd like to know if it really is as cool as it sounds
I believe the parent you replied to was referring to Three Mile Island, not Chernobyl.

Right on, those teachers are just buried in work come June, July, and August.

Then you burn yourself an audio CD from the tracks you purchase at the iTunes Music Store, something that is completely legal and encouraged by Apple.
