    Well, I do sincerely apologize for my unkind last statement. That was not compassionate and I suspect like most people you have redeeming qualities.

    But in 2014 I am amazed at the bigotry expressed against people who vote differently. That is very ignorant. It's gotten to the point where people convince themselves anyone who votes ______ is pure of heart and and anyone who votes ________ is incapable of human decency. It takes a lot of work for political parties to make us that dumb.

    This is also a good reminder that anyone can have a modern web browser.

    Now that browsers are auto-updating this is a good time for us as developers to weed out all the non-updating browsers. I've not been a big fan of browser exclusion but after waiting so many years for all the garbage versions of IE to die (<= IE 10) I've become a grumpy old man. You can have notices appear when an outdated browser is found and link the user to a better life. e.g. http://browser-update.org/

    If someone actually prefers to be left out, that should not hold everyone else back anymore.

    How are "developer" features not features for the end user? Don't users interact with web pages?

    By that logic you could argue that HTML 2.0 form support is only a developer feature. The fact that it enables the end user to input data doesn't make it a feature for that end user?

    why does an app ( from google play) which just produces fart sounds ( just like 80% of the other apps) want permissions to access my browser bookmarks , call information, data store and what not .

    Yes, it seems like every single app now needs full control of our lives. I'm not happy about granting such sweeping powers where they are clearly unnecessary.

    Except the apps from f-droid, for some dumb reason open source apps tend not to overreach on permissions and snooping.

    Oh, but I guess now we can assume those are 33% malware since it's not the play store.

    Yes, IIS may have won the west, but thanks in part to its susceptibility to virus, the Apache came back to dominate the world.

    The builder's employees are usually paid by the hour, in which case they are also paid for fixes.

    My biggest concern for the beta is it seems to destroy the tools needed for a robust commenting and conversation, including notification of new posts, easy ways to quote prior posts, easy way to link directly to comments, etc. If this is going to be reintegrated for sure (and maybe expanded?) then I'm probably cool with it.

    Let's not make this a "bring back vinyl records" thing.

    I'm getting up there in years myself, and seriously guys, a new look or a mobile-friendly design shouldn't be cause for a stroke.

    And of course, spying on your OWN citizens is completely normal and historically popular as well. Often with Orwelian results.

    I guess I am among those who are surprised anyone is surprised that the NSA has been playing big brother. What does surprise me is that there are efforts to curtail NSA options in-country since it is surely expected that they keep an especially close eye on any terrorist cells within the border.

    It wouldn't surprise me if they use their foreign leeway to spy internally from without.
