Let's run down the list. I'll combine my whoring into one succinct post:
Please, people, use the mirrors! It's only polite, don't/. the main server! (+5 Informative)
Please, people, download patches to save bandwidth! I'm so smart and cool! (+5 Informative)
Please, people, don't use developmental kernels in production environments. These are only for testing! (+5 Interesting)
Since when is/. about software updates? That's what freshmeat is for! I hate slashdot! (+5 Insightful)
You assholes that complain about software update stories on/. piss me off. DON'T CLICK ON THE FUCKING LINK, AND DON'T POST TO THE DISCUSSION! (+5 Insightful)
With my hacker/geek hat on, I'm kinda disappointed that this won't allow non Sony sanctioned s/w to be produced for the PS2
Oh, pull the GPL out of your ass. Sony has gone out of it's way to put this together; they even had a petition to gauge interest, meaning they gave two shits about consumer demand. They can impose restrictions if they want.
As we all know, the big-console makers expect to make up for the money lost in hardware sales with software sale royalties from developers. There's no way you can even expect them to allow people to burn/distribute their own works.
Of course, if you could burn your own DVD for your own personal use....
If you mean a ps2 bootable dvd, I don't that's going to happen, not only due to technical reasons but also legal reasons. Now on the other hand, if you could store your ROMS on your computer and rig up some bits to list/fetch them via the network adaptor... The same could be done for a NES/SNES emulator/ROMS!!
When somebody writes in with an Outlook problem, steer them toward Pine or Mutt.
"Outlook problem, huh? Here, try this, it's called Pine. No, there's no shiny buttons. A help menu? No, you won't need that. You like stuff that has more than 2 colors? You'll get over it. By the way, the '^' in '^X' means the CTRL button. Have fun now, off you go!"
In related news, people who come to me with a problem with their 2001 Corvettes will be redirected to an '85 Plymouth Reliant.
Maybe it used to be the greatest show on TV, but I don't think it still is. The frequency of genuinely funny moments have decreased greatly in the last few seasons. I still watch it, but the cutting edge show now is Family Guy (IMHO).
So... care to point me to an article in which you read that the Testarossa is the worst car Ferrari has made?
some arrogant fuck who you know is going to have cared for the car very badly.
If you read his page, you'd see that was not the case. He's got a turbo (625HP!!!!), a new clutch/trans., computer controlled EFI, and a new engine (500 miles), among other things.
That reminds me of a Conan OBrien episode, where he was discussing another IJ with Ford. Conan said they should make a movie where Jones is too old to get out of bed, and people bring him artifacts for his approval.
What about the AIM wars of the past couple years? Seems to me a "fair" company would adopt an open spec instead of trying to lock the world into their system/servers.
Well put yourself in "the big"'s position: suddenly, all the content (movies, music, etc) that you've made your billions with can be exchanged with next to zero effort by countless millions of people. Wouldn't you be doing something to defend your business? And don't give me that "The cat is out of the bag, they should evolve to use the internet." Let me repeat: BILLIONS of dollars. Why would they want to adapt when what they've been doing has gotten them so much cash?
The only power they have is the legal system, and they are forced to utilize it.
Note: I'm not passing judgement on who's right or wrong. I'm just pointing out that "the big" have their side to the whole "digital rights" story too. It would be stupid to expect them to give up and walk away.
What I'd really like to know is, why would anyone want to waste a mod point on marking a Funny post as Overrated; I'd like to hear the justification. Maybe if you don't think it's Funny, you just didn't get the joke, and you should find another post to promote instead of demote. Fucking moderators...
The only episodes that I can actually remember were the freestanding ones. The "conspiracy" episodes have just become a noisy blur, like a TV with no cable plugged in.
I don't know the names of the episodes, but in particular I remember really liking: the one with the Genie lady, the one with all those freak show people, the one where Giovanni Ribisi can shoot lightning with his body, and the really funny one with cigarette smoking alien.
And the whole reason they give for Mulder having to leave is a load of crock too! "He's in too much danger here."?!?! When has he not been the target of every bad guy the writers could think of? How has that changed now, so much so that he just had to take off?
Has shoddy security caused Microsoft any grief so far? A month after a hole is found, they fix it, and no one seems to care after that. Sure, people that don't like Microsoft remember it and add it to their encyclopedia of Microsoft holes to whine about, but people that like Microsoft fix it and go on with life. Who do they place the blame on? The "evil hacker", not the poor software.
People are so accepting of insecurity that they are even willing to spend cash money on antivirus suite after antivirus suite every year. It's just become a part of the cost of owning a PC.
Corel Linux International Technical Support (check THAT acronym hehe)
How did such a thing get past the damn executives in charge?!
I would have loved to work there, if only for the name tag/badge with my name, right above the acronym.
Did I miss anything?

This is slashdot man. Any predictable attempt at humor gets maximum mods. It's rare that a +Funny is actually funny.

Oh god, I have to go masturbate.
Ping is a little thousand-line hack that I wrote in an evening which practically everyone seems to know about.
It was a great night, after all!
I turn 9000 days old on my brother's birthday this year!
Scary? Strange? Cool? I'm not sure...

Abstract
Described herein are systems, methods, and organs for excreting fecal matter from the human body.

So Old. So Very, Very, Old...
That reminds me of a Conan OBrien episode, where he was discussing another IJ with Ford. Conan said they should make a movie where Jones is too old to get out of bed, and people bring him artifacts for his approval.
...
I guess you had to be there.
AOLTW isn't afraid to play fair.
What about the AIM wars of the past couple years? Seems to me a "fair" company would adopt an open spec instead of trying to lock the world into their system/servers.
Ahhhh, Penny Arcade... Infinitely wise, and infinitely applicable.
What do the "poor" need with a moderately-high-end photo editing suite?

You just switch the 'www' with 'archive'.

to have Mulder just kind of wander off...

we have to give Microsoft [microsoft.com] some credit.
Hey, thanks for that link to http://www.microsoft.com, I was not totally sure what their site was...
By the way, if any of you have heard of that cool search engine called "Google" but you don't know where to find it, it's here: http://www.google.com
eBay has too much
Whenever I'm looking for something, and I find it in mass quantities, I get really pissed too.
