I did not state that I hate it, only that I dont want it and see no value in it. I want something to play video games on. I dont care if it has bluray, it's not something I value so when you roll it into the price of the console it brings down it's value to me. sort of like if sony integrated a toaster iron into the fucking thing and upped the price some more. I dont want a toaster iron, I want a console. the increased price caused by integrating unneeded features drops the overall value of the system. although... if you're after a console/bluray player/toaster iron I'm sure it might be a great deal for you... just not to the other 99% of people who dont want such a combo.

as for reliability, you're right. I have not bought a 360 yet, because i dont like the failure rates that are being reported. I havent bought a wii because there's been no interesting games releases since it's launch (where the hell is mario galaxy already?). so bluray is good? so what? I dont want a hd video player right now, I want a video game console. I have a perfectly good upscaling dvd player that sits there unused because basically everything I watch is kept in digital formats on my home server and then streamed to my TV via HTPC. sure, the upsampled picture doesnt have the definition of bluray, but seeing as it's only being played back on a 26" 720p tv the difference is ignorable. it seems impossible for sony apologists to say why the ps3 is good value for money without resorting to it's wonderful "blue rays", something that most consumers neither need or want.

microsoft may be evil but at least they arent trying to jam their stupid hd format down my throat, and charging me more for the privilege.

I'd almost consider getting a ps3 if they get pirated games running off the hard drive. knowing that sony lost money on the hardware and then got nothing back in games would leave me feeling good inside :P

Now the original phone company is losing money because they bought you a phone but you aren't making any calls with them.
I'm confused, in the states are you able to get a contract that doesnt actually oblige you to pay anything? what does the contract actually accomplish for the phone company? the way you describe it makes it sound no worse than pre-paid accounts in that you only pay for what you use
Here in Australia if you get a phone contract, you're agreeing to pay $X per month in exchange for $Y worth of calls, whether or not you make those calls. If you get a phone on contract and put a pre-paid sim in it you're still gonna be paying $X every month even if you never make a call. either that or you'll have to pay out the contract which usually costs as much as $X times the number of months left in your contract.
