If Apple buys Palm, then this will come full circle again.

Palm was founded by Jeff Hawkins, Ed Colligan, and former Apple employee Donna_Dubinsky. They also brought some programmers from Apple on board. Later they left and formed Handspring, then Handspring was bought by Palm.

Their histories are similar to Apple's so it would not be out of the question for Apple to buy Palm and use their technologies.

Steve Jobs and Steve Woz create Apple. Steve Jobs leaves and creates NeXT. Apple buys NeXT. Former Apple employees create Palm. Palm founders leave, create Handspring. Palm buys Handspring. Apple buys Palm? Their histories and people are intertwined.

About the Warning, there is one. You must be one of those 'clicky' users who don't read the warnings as they come up on the screen and just click on the buttons without reading it.

There is a warning that comes up when you connect your iPod to another computer, or the same computer with a different iTunes library on it.

Here is the warning that comes up, since you failed to read it the first time:
"The iPod Billy Gates's iPod is linked to another music library. Do you want to change the link to your music library and replace all existing songs on this iPod with those from your music library?"

Couldn't be any simpler. The main thing it says is do you want to replace all existing songs on your iPod with those from your music library? If you say 'Yes' to this message then it will do what it says: Replace all existing songs on your iPod with whatever is in your music library in iTunes.

Whether you have one song, 5,000 songs or no songs in your iTunes, it will make your iPod match. The default button is 'No', so you have to actually click your mouse on the 'Yes' button to screw up like you did. If you had just pressed the 'Return' key you would have selected 'No' and your iPod would still have your music on it.

The parent of this post just said that $400 worth of music accounts for about 2GB. You don't need to spend $400 on a hard drive if you want to just backup 2GB. You can use 1 DVD- about $5. Or you could burn that on 3 CDs- about a buck. I am pricing it a little high, so if you buy in a large spindle it would lower your price to about 10 cents a CD.

Although not really the same level of comparison because again, the software is the same. The hardware may be different, but the software is the same on all, so they all operate the same. What MS is doing would be like Adobe creating 7 different versions of Photo Shop. Which in that case they have PS for the pros and Elements for the consumers. Most of you fail to see the point of Apple sending cease and desist notices. This is not about Apple not letting people install OSX on an PC. This is about a few developers that signed a strict NDA in using a pre-release version of the OS and a MacIntel.

This is about leaking a pre-release product into the wild. Now once Apple releases the new machines and new build of the OS to the PUBLIC, then you can see how they will react to that version getting out into the wild.

Right now all this talk is moot because this is not a PUBLIC release of the OS. Your rights to use this product are not being violated, this version is only supposed to be used for developers to recompile their apps and develop new software to work on the new machines when it is finally RELEASED next year. These few dumbass developers that released this should be tracked down and have their asses sued for violating the NDA.

This is possible now, but the cost would be too much to make it cost-effective.

I think there are 2 parts of this that have to be developed: How the image is captured, and how the viewer will see the image.

There already is a way to capture the image. You would have to have a special room with numerous cameras around a the subject- ala Matrix. The different angles could be done via a liver version of QuickTime VR, or a similar product, both which do not exist, but would need a very high powered server to process all the images.

The downside to this is, who would want to have a special booth setup just to have a live holographic chat? That seems backwards, its like having a phone booth in your house in order to make a call. But I don't see how else your image could be captured in 360.

As far as viewing the holograph, the image would have to be projected on a surface, which is less like Princess Leia, but more like Orlando Jones in Time Machine. The image would not be a true holograph, but if there are sensors on the projected surface, they could sense the viewing angle of the person watching. Of course this means the viewer would have to wear some type of reflecting headgear to send info back to the sensors, but the viewer would not have to wear any type of glasses.

The main part that would be tough to develop is how to capture the 3D image without having to have a special booth setup.

Are you saying that your Toshiba laptop has 5 buttons for the trackpad? If it does then my apologies for the confusion. What model is it? Besides if you have to use multiple buttons, what is the difference from just pressing a modifier button like on a Mac? (fn, ctrl, alt/option, command, shift) They are not more than 3 inches away, so its not like you are stretching that far to reach them.

Unless I saw that laptop I think I would accidentally press the other buttons if they are so close together on the trackpad. Plus, I don't mind reaching 3 inches to press a modifier key if I don't have my mouse. At least I can eliminate the clutter of cords with a bluetooth mouse which I am sure you could too.

Macs have a lower total cost of ownership because they are easier to use and support. The IT staff would be cut drastically if they switched to Mac. Its called job security, that is why the work world still uses Windows.

Decent Windows XP is just as stable? After loading patches and patches for patches. After hunting down viruses. If you want to spend your time patching an unsecure OS be my guest! Macs are not more secure because the low market share. The OS is more secure by design. Unlike Windows, all ports are off by default, one needs an admin password to modify the OS. Its not like something will install in the background without user interaction, the OS is just not built that way. That is what makes it more secure.

Enjoy fixing your PC and waiting 3 more years Longhorn. We already enjoy several features that MS will eventually copy into the next OS. Meanwhile by 2007, we will have had at least 3 more upgrades and again be years ahead of your crappy OS.
