I can't really explain how someone would get to grad school and not know how to code a linked list. And yes, there are exceptions. It all comes down to probabilities and when it comes to programming concepts, the odds are in favor of the person with a four year degree. That doesn't mean that you can't do without it, but the odds are lower.
Agreed. But it all comes down to probabilities. An English Major is more likely to write a successful book, but then there are many with no degree who have gone on to do great things...
I was making a generalization. There are certainly exceptions, such as yourself. I can only go on the experience I have.
I was more talking about what you learn at a vocational school, not what you learn yourself later.
In my experience people who have gone to vocational schools do not have the same background in algorithms than do people who have gone to four year schools. They do not have as expansive of knowledge in data structures and sorting algorithms and the like. There are many jobs where optimizing is important and knowing which algorithm has the best run time in O() notation can be important. They may know Java, but that doesn't mean that they can code just as well. Just because someone knows how to use a typewriter doesn't mean they can write a book just as well as an English major.
I guess you have to treat these people like alcoholics. The first step is admitted the world has a problem. The next step is to accept a higher power. Its not our fault. God did it. The third step is to turn our will over to God. I'm starting to get worried because I don't know what that means.
Um, why Virginia? You do realize that the last two elections hinged on Ohio and Florida, right? and that we really were NOT expecting that at all. So how do you say with such confidence that Virginia is THE key state this year?
That's exactly what I was gunna say. It's tiny. You can find GUI SQLite for Windows all over the place. Can't remember the name of the one I used offhand, but its not hard to find. And it saves into one simple file wherever you want, so it is very portable.
True, but when someone brings up a technicality, a technical answer is what matters, even if it doesn't in general.
Interesting about the PowerPC certification. I looked it up just to verify. I guess since Apple doesn't sell PowerPCs anymore, it wasn't worth paying for. Or something.
I think we all know that by the time this game comes out, it won't be $600. Granted, it'll probably be $400 (especially if all these 40 GB PS3 October 12 rumors turn out to be true) which is still good hunk of change, but a lot of people have spent $400 on a console before.
Also, while I don't really believe the console will last for 10 years, I think it might last more than the 5 year norm.
I think your forgetting the time it took to get the game shipped to stores, find a store that has it, and then buy it, and drive home. Thats measured in days, not hours, like steam.
Agreed. Its interesting that MTV has to have a Music Subdivision, isn't it?
Anyways, I am hopeful. I have used iTunes the whole time, but I would think about LOOKING at other services if they provide DRM free content. Nowadays, this is slightly more likely, though I think I would settle for iTunes compatible DRM. I wonder what this thing will look like.
As the owner of a first gen intel mac, I don't understand what I'm supposed to be upset about. The next version of Windows probably won't be out until 2010 at the earliest, probably more like 2012. By that point, I will have a new machine. So I don't understand what the fuss is all about. In five years, even regular consumers will be ready for their next machine, except of course for the few hold outs and poor people, but they wouldn't upgrade their OS anyways. I think someone made an issue of something that is not there.
As a mac user, I have never had any real driver issues. So not ALL Joe Schmoes are used to that crap. The point being it IS possible to make it much more seemless.
Except that I don't really notice that AS MUCH with Linux users. Not to say they never do, but I'm sorry, I think your mixed up. I think its the other way around.
I was commenting on my Parent's comment, not the HardOCP person. Should he be smarter and know what was causing the crashes? Sure. But he is evaluating the OS for Joe Schmoe, not for really technically savvy.
I wasn't comparing Windows to anything else. In my opinion, Linux isn't really ready for mass adoption, so, don't worry, I agree. Linux may have a way better base and a better ideology, but its not easy to use. Maybe one day it will be, but not now. Personally, I use Mac OS X because I feel it takes the best of both worlds. A *NIX base for stability and openness, and an interface that is easy to use (really).
I have noticed that Windows fans' excuse for crashing on other people's systems is something along the lines of "Jeez, they must be stupid if they couldn't figure out what was causing their problem". I don't understand how that response is helpful or accurate. If you need to be that smart to use the OS, something is wrong. You said it is probably the sound card driver. Sure, not the end of the world, but how would Joe Shmoe know that? I sure didn't. And here is is, 5 or 6 years after XP is out, and I tried to plug a second monitor into my brand new Dimension E520 at work and the OS crashed when I told it I wanted the second monitor extending my first. Not even a BSOD. Just restarted with no warning. Is that what XP is supposed to do or do I just not know how to use it? I think you need to rethink your response and figure out that something about what you said is incorrect. Or am I just stupid too?
I agree with a lot of the points you make, but I'm going to disagree with you on New Super Mario Bros. I personally really like Wind Waker, although you are right that it is not legendary status like Ocarina of Time, but New Super Mario Bros. was one of my favorite Mario games in a long time. I really missed a Mario sidescroller and they hit the hammer directly on the nail.
Also, you are ignoring Super Smash Brothers which was a HUGE hit on the GameCube, not to mention mario kart, and Madden, and Resident Evil 4 (which a lot of people liked on the GameCube more than any other console).
Another thing: Halo and GTA are ONLY relevent in the US. USA != Earth! No one cares about either of these games to the same extent as they do in the US.

Oh, you know what I'm trying to say. No need to spend time picking apart an analogy... :P

Thats because there is no internet in Darfur. At least, not easily accessible. Germany was a high tech country at the time of WWII.

I have Amazon Prime, and got Soul Calibur IV from them and this was awesome. I hope they'll do this for all new games!

Moreover, not only is Mac OS X Leopard UNIX based, it IS UNIX. Its got the certification and everything.
I can't connect to the site.

The Wii has 512 MB of internal flash memory. The browser is stored there and can be run from the main menu.
"there is no way sony will skip releasing a Paystation 4."
Typo, or Freudian slip? If the PS3 is any indication, the PS4 WILL be a Paystation. More paying than playing.
