Shall we devote our resources to stopping that ?

The answer is, of course not.

Energy waste is bad for one simple reason, it is wasteful.

Let's devote our energy to reducing energy waste. Let's tighten up the efficiency regulations of automobiles so that SUV's aren't a 'loop-hole' (http://www.cfif.org/htdocs/freedomline/current/gu est_commentary/lynch-cafe-standard-insanity.htm) in the CAFE standards. Let's stop producing so much light pollution (url:httpwwwdarkskyorg>)that I can no longer make out the Milky Way from my back garden in a surburb of a small mid-western city . Let's insist that fuck-brains who choose to buy Harley Davidson motorcycles aren't buying them because they make A LOT OF NOISE (http://www.noisefree.org/motorcycles/loudpipes.ht ml), and really only want to look macho http://www.havasy.net/images/bike/chapsleather01_t humbnail.jpg!

A simple look at employment statistics http://www.opm.gov/feddata/demograp/02demo.pdf would reveal rampant reverse discrimination.

It is difficult to explain how minority and female employment figures are constantly rising (even to percentages above relative population within the U.S.), while white male figures are constantly falling without considering reverse discrimination.

Clearly this does not apply to the highest levels of civil service, which I admit appears to be almost exclusively white males, however for middle management and below, the figures are astonishing.

Don't get me wrong, I do not judge a person by race

I will admit to judging the fairer sex, mostly by bust size, and leg length, try as I might, I can't seem to avoid this - but that judgment was against suitability for mating, not against professional competence.

I have worked with some very talented people in my career, many of them people of minority status, and I don't ever remember considering their race - or sex - when judging their competence.

Two main design decisions preclude this from causing disaster.

1.) A proper NTP implementation will only normally change the skew of your clock, so it speeds up or slows down, but does not jump around.

2.) A proper NTP implementation will assume that a clock with a large variance compared to other sources is unreliable, and so it will try not to use it. Of course this assumes you have more than one time source available (and configured).

Well, he convinced me that it was a two way street. That there is no shortage of good ideas and products out there, and the ONLY reason some succeed over others is becuase people like him and Sales people make it happen. They sell products that they know aren't quite ready yet (vaporware) because the company needs the revenue. They sell products that they know are inferior to the competition because their Scientists and Engineers made a stupid mistake early on in the product development lifecycle that didn't get caught until too late and the company can't afford to start over.

Basically he convinced me (a seasoned Engineer) that we need them as much as they need us.

So, be careful in your thinking about this issue.
