    Right, now come up with an example for intelligent design. You can't, no matter what you observe you can explain it by saying God designed it that way.

    Analogously, if you wanted to reverse the course of the pop bottle, you'd have to launch it from the Earth's surface at a similar speed.

    There is a difference between a rocket and a cannon ball. While the latter has to be launched with speed 10 km/sec (or even more considering air drag) to avoid falling back, the former just have to maintain speed of 1 m/s (or even less) for sufficient period of time to escape Earth.

    My way to archive my email is of course version controlled. Every month I just archive my inbox, date it, and send it to myself via email.

    We're archiving spam?

    Archiving is the best way to deal with any unnecessary and unneeded information, spam included. So many times I archived my workfiles with the thought that if I don't open that archive in 12 months, it is all junk and I can just toss it away. I believe my brain is working the same way only faster. What are we talking about again?

    I feel that the fact that most people waste 1/5 of their time on the internet may be a good indication that work weeks are 1/5th too long. In fact, if I could find a job where I would only work 4 days a week, I would probably be as if not more productive than now that I work 5 days a week. This is a case where corporations should revisit their policies instead of the other way around. But the 4 day work week would mean that one would waste 1/4 of his work time. Oh wait, I was never good at fractions.

    For observing their effects on the galaxy, perhaps the ETIs make changes which are too small to detect on the scales we can currently resolve. Or maybe they don't need to make such changes to advance their society.

    Or may be the effects are too large... Hey look, the galaxies are running away from each other, aren't they supposed to slow down by the mutual gravitational effects?
