    Or you can just go to Area 51 (in Japan Hiroshima or Nagasaki would probably work), test your GC there, compare with values on Wikipedia, update the values on Wikipedia, and you GC is now up to an international standard.

    So basically, they're taking a bunch of organizations in countries that probably have a 95% or higher piracy rate, and giving them free licenses.

    So it's costing Microsoft essentially squat, but potentially improves human rights in said countries.

    Commendable, but not exactly as philanthropic as MS probably wants to come across as....

    The kew word is potentially. In reality it does squat, period. The governments can always find other pretexts to raid NGOs. There are other software companies, not just MS, products of which could be pirated too.

    Maybe if we had a lower income-gap, better paying jobs, and opportunity for people this wouldn't be such a problem?

    Alternatively we could legalize recycling of the broadband cables. A slogan: "Let's put it to a better use!"

    Remember prohibition never worked in any war on anything. I am not an expert, but does anyone know any medicinal use of the broadband copper?

    Of course that all depends on how broad is contraband of the broadband copper.

    Interestingly enough, their page's counter went up about 100k since this morning (ET). In the morning, when I first read the story, the counter was going up tens per second.

    Yeah! To fight dupes I compute CRC checksum for each file and store it (and only it) on my back up drive. That method removes dupes almost automatically and there is a side effect of a huge compression ratio too. I have been downloading the high def videos from Internet for quite a while now and with my compression method I have used less than 10 percent of 1GB flash drive! I strongly recommend this method to everyone!
