My memory of the episode is that they used polished bronze in some of their tests, because it was a common material for shields, and that it actually turned out to be much better at reflecting infrared and producing heat on the target than modern mirrors.
They had one of these set up at the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) I watched a girl stumble awkwardly for a while with her arms out on what was supposed to be (I think) a virtual tour of a few government buildings in Russia. I suppose once you get used to it, it's probably less awkward.
The screen us outsiders could see didn't look particularly responsive, but it also didn't look like any engine I've ever seen, so maybe they're just bad at making virtual tours of Russia.
I would have tried it if there had been several hundred fewer people in the room.
It looked like she still had to use a handheld pointer to change camera direction, too, which seems like it would make things a lot more difficult.
For reals. At three weeks, the cells in a human fetus number in the hundreds. If you could actually make an ultrasound large and clear enough to bother looking at from that speck, it would probably be more identifiable as a basketball than a person.
I hate "enhance". I hate it more than anything, no matter what it's in. We were watching Num3ers a couple months ago, and the genius wrote a program to "enhance" security footage. It took a picture of a guy in a mask so blurry you couldn't tell where his eyes were, and somehow managed to interpolate an expensive wristwatch.
Even Bladerunner enhanced...zooming in on a tiny mirror in the background of a photo...to the opposite side of the room as reflected in the mirror...close enough to show a woman's earring, if I recall correctly.
Do they ever actually remove stories at all? I always assumed the afternote edits were part of Slashdot's free speech/liability policy. Dupes are gimpy, but deleting them also deletes the posts of anyone who responded to them, which is counter to the spirit of Slashdot. (If goatse posts get to linger at -1, responses to dupes deserve at least as much respect)
When he announces the developer's kit during the keynote, he moves to a large slide of a G5-style aluminum case with "$999" written next to it, if I remember correctly.
It would be a little retarded to charge $999 for a mini that sells for $500 with a more costly processor in it, and doesn't have to be returned in a year and a half, and whose individual sale isn't quite as crucial to the success of the transition.
Our entire nerd commune was without interwebs for several hours, before I realized that my ancient PPC was still online, and told everyone else in the house to switch over to OpenNic. I was deeply surprised to hear a week later that a lot of people were still having trouble.
No, you fool! You'll just give AOL, its parent, affiliates, subsidiaries, assigns, agents and licensees the irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide right to reproduce, display, perform, distribute, adapt and promote the bomb as they see fit!
I get the free truck. Then if it breaks down, I cram it to the rim with sedated enemies, and my most hated inanimate objects, light it on fire, and drive it over a cliff into the ocean, diving out at the last possible moment.

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but broadband is already saturated with penetration.
So logically, if I shoot all my family members, I'll be safe...
I once drank a grande Chantico. I win!
You try to make a simple dirty pun, and what do you get...
Pure knowledge comes from the scientific method. Impure knowledge is derived from the Missionary method.
Can I please, please make a joke about your mom's box?

And we're excellent spellers.
You just blew my mind.
There was a puff of orange flame.
Thanks for the science lesson. : )

We've got to call those fighters back!
This isn't a satellite close-up of the Goatse guy, is it?

If anyone needs me, I'll be in the Angrydome.

I just using hyper-threading to read them concurrently.

My '97 PPC is still running Explorer. I tried to isntall Mozilla, and it objected mightily.
I loved the antlion level! It was like playing hot lava...with a gravity gun.
Mod parent double plus good!

iPod Shuffle != tampon
Instead of a fail in dropped hardware?

Then I go get another free truck.
