    history is still flexable i see. they stole the chips to make the first computers from their employers[citation needed], but somehow this is never mentioned. the steves should still be serving time[citation needed] not millionaires...

    Well, some of us are still using storage with a reasonable level of efficiency. My hard disk was 60GB and that was more than plenty.

    I think I can safely assume that if bits of the demo dropped to 20FPS with a Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme X6800, 4 Gigs of RAM and an Nvidia 8800GTS, there's really no point in even trying on a midrange machine.

    ...Oh no. Where does that put my AGP 4x dual-CPU 1.25GHz G4 with 2GB of 167MHz DDR RAM? Will I be able to play UT3 on it?

    UT2k4 was only a better version of UT2k3 which were both Unreal engine 2.

    Actually, from what I hear, 2k3 was only a worse version of 2k4. They knew they weren't going to finish the game they wanted on time, so they polished what they had and released 2k3 for the interim.

    So it doesn't really count. (In fact, I haven't even played it.)

    Ummmm... like what?

    On Linux, you have the option of GCC and SDL. On OSX, you have the option of... GCC and SDL. I'm not seeing the complications here.

    P.S. 2k4 for Mac used SDL.

    2k3's vehicle support was incomplete, and not enabled during the normal course of play. 2k3 was more like a demo for 2k4 than a self-contained game. (I hear they allowed you to get a partial refund on a purchase of 2k4 by providing proof of purchase of 2k3.) 2k4's vehicle support is much more well-rounded and fun, though it still has problems. (maybe I just think so because nothing is fun at 10fps, but meh.)

    Knowing how to twitch a joystick and time a button press helps one with aiming a real gun? At best, they would have been overconfident in their "skill," and behaved more recklessly and stupidly (and probably died).

    Oh, come on. I've played PLENTY of good PS3 exclusive titles.

    Lair, for example. (I was one of the lucky ones with non-broken controls.) And Resistance. That was fun too. And Armored Core 4. It-- wait, AC4 wasn't exclusive. Hmmmm.

    Okay, I can't think of any other exclusives I've played. Or heard of and looked forward to playing. But STILL! Two games!

    And when MGS4 comes out, it'll be three! THREE whole games!

    I hate handicap in (at least) the original. There are few Smash Brothers experiences more frustrating than continuously pounding on someone for five minutes and having them start to appear to reel slightly under your blows, then having them accidentally do a Smash Attack which sends your 0%-damaged self flying out of the ring faster than Sonic on meth.

    Late 1998 or early 1999 was when Macs started coming with 3D hardware by default, IIRC. And there was third-party 3D hardware for the Mac long before then (not that I would know).

    DirectX/Direct3D is a really nice API for making games. And MS supports it with nice development tools.

    I'm a games programmer, so I have to ask. How is DirectX/Direct3D better than SDL/OpenGL?

    The theory is good, but the execution would be horribly complicated, and computationally intensive, and have a very high margin for error. (Computers don't intuit flow as well as humans, for a relatively minor example.)
