Becoming the best person I can become by working on my internal conflicts so that I can eliminate them before they affect those who are exposed to me. Once I have accomplished a satisfactory level of internal calm, we'll see what happens from there.
In the mean time, I'm working a m-f job at a major corporation trying to be as genuine as possible in the boardroom without falling prey to those who play the corporate game aggressively. I also practice tai chi as a means of attaining this "inner calm."
Hmm...what else. I try to vote. Occasionally, I'll send a letter to the government officials that represent me (usually pre-compiled plug in your name letters).
Most of all, I try to keep my perspectives as close to the mainstream as possible without denying the philosophy that I've chosen to drive my life forward... That philosophy happens to be something I've formulated more or less on my own...with the help of people like terence mckenna, noam chomsky, rober anton wilson, jesus christ, anton lavey, lao tzu, cheng man ching, and deepak chopra. Also, with a hint guys like Jimmy Swaggart, Al Sharpton, and Malcom X thrown in for an added kick...
I think I was doing pretty well until I decided to put all this in a post on slashdot. This, of course, is not the only mistake I have made.
This one is a no-brainer... Focusing your eyes intensely for long periods of time is no good. They need to be balanced between focused and unfocused states so that the muscles in your eyes can experience the full 'range of motion,' so to speak... Otherwise they'll end up atrophying and causing you all sorts of problems like near/farsightedness, glaucoma, etc...
It's true with any large-scale corporation that has not had to deal with the nightmare of unionized employees. The only way a corporation stops treating people like this is if they realize the pain that will come if their employees decide to unionize. The only way they realize this is through experience...
I knowmy ideas are nothing more than a few of the billions of infinite possibilities of existence. Can you say the same of yours?
Is it dangerous to aspire to such great heights? I think it could be, but I'm still learning (you've helped). There is a balance. I know this much. I intend to position myself just to the left of center because I've found the surface in the middle is a tad slippery.
Do we exist on this planet or do we exist in this universe? I'm not sure if you grasped my point. I was hinting at a wild idea/hypothesis/theory that popped into my frontal lobe, recently:
-Our universe as part of a pool of goop on a planet which exists on a size-scale millions of times greater than our own.
-Humans as the worker-bees trying to create the puzzle pieces of the amino-acids/protiens that are developing in this pool of goop.
-Or maybe a pool of goop inside of some alien uterus or maybe that's all existence is....an infinite loop of birth and death and alien uteruses... (new idea just now)
Ok, I could go on forever...more and more metaphysical with each passing sentence. You get the point. Is your scientific frame of mind bored yet? What about your spiritual one? Are they both just annoyed?
They really need to get these things crackin on chaos theory... How many inhabited planets equals one amino acid chain? What are our odds of hitting the protein jackpot? You know?
Actually Polar Express won't be creating any new genres. It will be following in the footsteps of Waking Life.
Personally, I think the Waking Life style of doing things creates a much more surreal experience. Polar Express looks like just another digitally animated cartoon with characters drawn to look like real actors. As far as animation goes, it hardly looks different than something like toy story because motion capture has been used to animate all of the characters for quite a while, anyway... Hardly genre-bending...just a tweaked cartoon with a familiar face.
Actually, smartass, quake is the measuring stick by which these top players judge the games I was referring to. It's been a slow and steady downhill slide ever since...with occasional ups/downs...
It's not a comparison to the actual theory of evolution. All things evolve in their own way. Just because the word "evolution" is used, does not mean Darwin's theory has been invoked.
Funny that there's a story about MMOGs going the way of the newb. High level FPS players have been bitching about newbie-designed games for a couple of years now.
Very true... Which religion is more beneficial to the progress of our species, and further, our planet? That's the question, I think, that should guide us to our chosen dogma. Dogma seems unavoidable. It seems we would benefit from a wide adoption of a dogma that might, eventually, eradicate itself. Science is linked too strongly to commercialism. Creationism and other extreme ideologies seem ludditish...
I tend to think that it lies somewhere in between Buddhism and Science. Taoism is probably the closest approximation that has been explored fully. Vedanta is great, but the mystical aspects can be hard to swallow for many.
I remember, when I was a 4th grader, there was a contest to name NASA's Discovery Shuttle. I think it was Discovery, anyway. The contest was to choose a submarine name and make a case for it being the name of the next shuttle. I chose Alvin for obvious reasons. Not surprisingly, it didn't win. Alvin doesn't sound all that catchy, I guess...
A classmate of mine chose nautilus. I thought that one was a good one...
The Crossfire hosts' job is to prevent guests from being able to make detailed points like you're describing by cutting them off and asking pointed questions that provoke negative responses. If you go too deep into making a good point that they don't agree with, then they will start yelling and creating chaos to distract the viewer. He did the only thing he could....repeated the basic ideas over and over so that intelligent minded individuals watching would be able to understand where he was coming from.
You have to understand... Those hosts do not give their guests an opportunity to make a complete point. They ask whatever pointed question pops into their head so that the person speaking is forced to answer it.. If they don't, then it looks like they're avoiding "the issue."
Possibly? Which one is more important to you, your career in software development or the good of mankind being at the core of software development? Which do you think is more important to the rest of the open-source community? Can you have it both ways?
Tough questions... Is it even worth bothering to guess at answers?
Before they switched directors, this movie had a chance to be an amazing flick. The guy who was previously directing it has worked on a few Nine Inch Nails videos, and you can bet he was planning to stay as true to the original mythology with as little overdramatized love-interest-style garbage as possible. Now, it seems, it will be just another movie based on a game that hollywood butchers for the sake of the almighty dollar. The original director's unwillingness to compromise with money grubbing producers is probably a big part of why he's not on the project, anymore.
Within days after the new director was announced; the script had already been butchered with the addition of an endangered love interest and the elimination of the pre-human civilization plotline.
The evil quotient of hollywood producers is right up there with the MPAA and RIAA.

You really had to read slashdot to figure out that our government officials don't know or care about what's best for the people who elected them?
It's all about the $. Constituancies, lobbies, commitees, bribes, blackmail, scandals, and other distractions that keep the $ flowing...
Most people thoughtful enough to read an article are smart enough to stay away from the comments...

Buying it through steam is as close to that as you'll ever get in any kind of official capacity...

Maybe our universe is just a logic gate?! All that we do just goes down to 1 output..!@#@ In some sense...
I know.
Haha! I like that one.
OR, maybe this is all just kind of really stupid talk and we should focus on really really cool and very fast super computers.
You might be on to something... Personally, I think the focus should be somewhere between the two. That's where I like to keep it, anyway.
Meaning is a relative term.

No you don't.
I know more than you think.
Put down the joint before you hurt someone.
Good advice. Unfortunately, for your ego.. I didn't need it.
Think in broader terms, please. I know what Chaos Theory is. It doesn't answer my questions directly, but it points us in the right direction.

Thanks for the tips... I'll keep them in mind. ...coming from a future 'new linux admin' if all goes as planned.

He did what he could, and he did a good job.
Think figuratively....if you can.
Are we putting ourselves out of work?
