Wait, so it's good that it's delayed because you don't like them as a company? What about us who are looking forward to the NGP? It sounds like a rather interesting handheld that answered many of the complaints we had against the last one. What makes you think this one is crippled, compared to what?
A lot of the complaints are because the device really doesn't seem like the device Nintendo woudl have normally shipped if it could help it. The price is way higher than any previous handheld from them, the battery life lower, several features like a single analog stick and resistive touch are outdated. Power wise, the resolution is quite low, and the hardware is outclassed by pretty much all their competition. Nintendo seems to be betting that 3d makes up for all that, and people are rightly critical of them for it.
No, he stomped on a bad project, in order to direct money to better projects. How much did Ares cost, versus how many orbital flights? Now compare that to what Falcon costs, and how many orbital flights it's had.
Now, with that in mind, which is offering the better return on investment?
Oh gee, it's this thread again. Seriously, they aren't going to do anything here because nothing he did enables piracy. That's the only thing that really makes sony angry. Everything else seems to be okay.
Considering a lot of those are HD versions of iphone apps, and the ipad has been out over a year, yeah, I'd expect to see more apps right now.
Come back and make that argument this time next year, when honeycomb has been out for a while and there are several devices on the market that uses it.
Actually sony has expressed approval of such things. Hacking the Move is a vastly different beast then hacking the ps3. Hacking a move doesn't let you pirate games.
Actually, Sony's been open to people using the Move for the same sort of hacks as people are using the Kinect for. what Sony is against is people hacking the ps3 itself to play pirated software. MS has a similar policy when people hack the 360 to try to do the same thing.
Remember, Piracy is a major reason why the PSP has had lukewarm reception from developers. Damn near everyone seems to just rip the game and spread the ISOs, and that's costing them money. Why spent 10 million making a game if people are just going to rip you off?
As for Kinect? Tech wise, it's interesting, but game wise, it completely sucks. It's webcam games and rail shooters, and nothing else. It's got the same problem the eyetoy had, except MS has the money to throw at people to keep the bad press away. What's odd is the move, which is actually rather well playing in games, isn't selling more.
this isn't a case of scrapgoating, it's a matter of pirates turning themselves into martyrs to bash a company that's daring to fight and not just roll over for them.
It's basically a giant whine about Sony protecting it's IP, with the exaction of the rootkit stuff which was indeed a real gripe. People who complain about such stuff rarely own any IP themselves, they just want a free lunch. I mean heck, they romanticized Bleem, which was being sold when the ps1 was still active on the market.
Just because theft leads you to enjoy a product later on doesn't mean your still not stealing. Not to mention, just as many people get to love the idea of a free lunch and never stop downloading pirate media. I see a ton of PC gamers like that who refuse to buy games but see no problem downloading and playing them for hundreds of hours.
Yeah! which is why the ps3 lets you use any headset, bluetooth or usb, user swap out your HDD with full support, install linux (until hackers ruined it for everyone), save games to USB sticks to bring to a friends house, install psn games on up to 5 machines, and added tons of features via software at no additional cost post launch. Clearly they are waging a war against their consumers.
I'll buy them just to spite the pirates and hackers. they made it personal when they started screwing people on PSN and acting like martyrs. Greedy bastages just want a free lunch and are mad Sony isn't rolling over for them. They are trying to do to the ps3 what they did tot he PSP, and frankly, I'd rather not see another flight of publishers from a platform I own.
The article says "While much of the attention for the Kinect has focused on video gaming, perhaps robotics will be its greatest beneficiary". This is untrue, IMHO. Outside dance central, most of the hype for the device post release has been all the hacks, with little to no talk about the games that are upcoming.
On the PSP at least, you could pause and resume at any time by just flicking the power button. I played though SoTN, a pretty long game, via this by stopping and going over several weeks. There seems to be a misunderstanding that handhelds would force you to play the game till the next savepoint/battle/etc, when really that isn't the case.
In some ways, it does. It takes a lot of creativity to come up with new characters, worlds, etc, rather then endlessly recycling others. Final fantasy has also done a lot of experimenting with gameplay mechanics over the years. It's not always handled excellently, but it's always there.
your obviously a troll. PSN and XBLA are filled with cheap indie games, and both have made scores of new IP this generation. Nintendo seems to rely on the same franchises for decades, with little changes.
Actually, while you had a lot of shovel ware on the ps1/ps2, you also had a ton of varied 3rd party hits. The wii...isn't so much doing that. Outside of 1st party games, they seems to only be a handful of good 3rd party ones.
you average game costs what, 15-20 million to make these days? You can get away with charging less for games with smaller budgets, but for a lot of them you have to charge that $50-60 to ever hope to break even and make money. Most games don't sell 5 million at 60, they sell 500k-1 million.
It was overpriced, and behind schedule. the only reason to keep it was pork to congressional districts. Obama made the correct call, but the people getting the kickbacks didn't like it.
There isn't just one playstation phone. They announced Playstation Suite for Android that allows them to release psp/psone level content in a platform agnostic format. the result is they could offer the same game on a honeycomb tablet, android phone, and the PSP2. the 'playstation phone' is just one device that can play that content.

Obama made the right call.
It's your phone, but their app store. they are free to add and remove whatever apps they want to. It's no different then any other store.
It's also an issue of who is doing it. Apple is a private company, they can pull or add whatever apps they so choose.
Oh gee, it's this thread again. Seriously, they aren't going to do anything here because nothing he did enables piracy. That's the only thing that really makes sony angry. Everything else seems to be okay.

I'm pretty sure a device that took electricity and emitted a stream of matter would be damn interesting.

Two orbital launches is a nice start. How many did Ares have again, in the same time period of development?
It was overpriced, and behind schedule. the only reason to keep it was pork to congressional districts. Obama made the correct call, but the people getting the kickbacks didn't like it.
I think the eeepad transformer, also a honeycomb tablet, was shooting for a $400 price range. Which is about all I'm willing to spend on one.
