Most people say this will kill of the middle class, and the only people left will be CEOs and fast food people.
But I wonder when unemployment starts getting around 30% or so, we're going to start seeing crime like they have in Mexico, Russia and Iraq. We're talking about America becoming a 2nd class country.
As a network admin, I would love to have several 802.11 jammers, and plant them all over the building.
This would keep people from installing rouge wireless networks.
When I took a white hat hacking class last summer, one of my instructors had a old X10 device that he modified and put in a generic box with the words "Internet Off" on it.
Flip the switch, and the internet turns off for everyone 100 feet or so.
The free OO is very expensive if you use it to actually do work(what a concept).
If OO just burned up an extra 10 minutes a day for my users by being buggy or quirky, that would cost me $60,000 per user(users bill at $150/hour)!!!!
I think $500 for a copy of office 2003 is cheap!
One thing that sucks about IT is the competitiveness of it. It seems that you can never sit back and ride on your years of experience or degrees, or certs.
It seems the second you stop to take a break, you become absolute.
I'm a network admin, and I'm not very happy.
Am I the only one who feels murderous rage when someone tells me to go to another country if I want a job???
All so that the CEOs and major stock holders can get richer.
Everyone say goodby to the middle class. Its walking out the door. In 10 years, you will be either poor, or very very rich. Bend over.
WRONG. When I call for software support, the americans are nice. The indians are usually rude when you ask them to repeat themseleves for the 500th time.
I've seen 512mb flash drives and even 1gb flashdrives.
Has anyone tried putting a live CD on one of these?
I would think it would be blazing fast.
Its a shame linux doesnt work this well

Its a shame that regular hard installed linux cant work as well as these live cds.
To get debian to pick up my usb flash drive I had to recompile the kernel. To get redhat to see it I have to mount it every time.
Yet with knoppix, I just plug it in and it works...
Outsourcing is dillution of the resource of manpower.
US Jobs feed by US employees = good times
US Jobs feed by + US employees + India + China +... = depression
I completely agree. The constant need to achive more, get more, buy more, do more, is a disease.
It will shorten your life, and cause you mental ill.

Google should allow users to 'help' them.
Install something on your computer so they can see when you bookmark something, and what bookmarks everyone has.
For people have have 'good taste' in bookmarks, theres results count higher than someone with BS bookmarks.
I think this would improve accuracy.
Most of those scools were scams.
My work paid for me to continue to stay on top of my certs. I would get stuck in these classrooms sometimes filled with truckdrivers, highschool dropouts, etc, all sold on the idea of getting rich quick with an mcse.
Some didnt even have a home computer!!! But for $7,000 they could get a job making $70,000.
Dumb people may deserve to lose their money, but these scamming training places also deserve to go bankrupt.
I dont think these techie job boards are a joke. At one point they worked. But when you have thousands of IT people out of work, it just doesnt work.
If things ever get better(new president please), maybe these job sites will be of value again.
People are worried about using a blow dryer for 10 minutes a day. HA!
Being a network administrator I sit 10 feet from 13 servers for 9-10 hours a day.
I just lost my train of thought...
The lesson I learned is IT changes in the blink of an eye. One year theres a shortage in networking, the next a major surplus. One year programmers get paid 60k, 5 years from now probably 1/2 that.
The lesson I'm taking from this is to pay off my house early and save everything I can. My job in IT may not exist in 10 years.
Imagine what its going to be like in 5 years when there aren't any more programming jobs in the US.
I bet there will be hundreds of new viruses weekly.

When college grads cant find jobs, they cant buy CD's. Also, we aren't exposed to music like we used to be. Maybe if MTV played music...

Knoppix has a DVD version. I have a copy, although its in german. I got my copy off ebay. I dont think theres anywhere where you can download it.

I replaced my home phone with a cellphone. Can Tivo work without a home telephone?
Exactally. I would rather lose my number and keep my $25/year in my pocket.
Why dont we try to go one day without bashing MS. How about one day with unbiased news?
