Didn't we learn this with MS already? I seem to recall a standing law of nature that reads "Do not install until SP1 comes out", or something there about.
OR... If they had played "Star Control II" about 5 years before C&C, they could have looked at the Earth Ship and realized that Accolade had it right, and even put it on the Earth ship!
1. XBox 360 95- Way better than the Xbox, but you have to take it apart and rebuild it monthly. Optional "Plus Pack" to add themes.
2. XBox 360 98- Plug and Play joystics added (sort of). Though it crashed less, its not really that much different than XBox 360 95 but everyone thinks they want it.
3. XBox 360 CE- This is the portable version, Duh!
4. XBox 360 98SE- Exactly the same as XBox 360 98, but it costs more, and M$ says it's better so people think they want it more. Also included, a Weezer Video.
5. XBox 360 ME- This version crashes almost as much as the XBox 360 95, but it has built-in backups for when it corrupts, so you've got that going for you.
6. XBox 360 XP- Much better than all previous versions, but the EU and SEC will make Microsoft remove the browser, which is full of bugs... The linux community will absolutely hate the XBox 360 XP, even though it really isn't all that bad, if you know how to secure it, which is a serious pain in the ass.
7. XBox 360 Vista- This version will totally rip-off all other 3rd Generation consoles, and is the whole reason they have the tiered release plan anyway...
I'd spend $500-$1000 to get a 2 tuner OTA Tivo-branded HD DVR in a heart beat... but then, I like to randomly burn money on crap I don't really need, so I'm proabably not a good market sample.
You know, I just don't buy that... Go DVI, or Component from an HD Cable box, neither of those are lossy and niether require a cable card. Then include the ariel tuners that are in the HD box from DTV and you have a great solution.
As far as networking goes, I could see DTV not wanting that, because they really just don't ever want to beat cable down, but I heard the new HDTivo is supposed to have some networking... which may have been totally off, I don't remember the source.
... that says this never happens, or, at least not from Tivo.
I love Tivo, and have two of them myself, but I really think they need to release some of ther other "this is being tested" stuff first. Case in point, HDTivo(promised 2002 or 2003, I can't even remember.) Networking on the DirecTivo, promised for years...
Tivo still makes the best DVR, but they never release anything new, fully featured. They even caved on the home media vision, buckling to the MPAA. This may eventually be released, but it wont be from Tivo and it won't be as good as it could be.
Tivo rules, i just wish they really would for a change.
...that one of these days, a manufacturer would figure out that the best part of consoles/handhelds is that they are actually very versitile pieces of hardware.
Personally, I think that the company that figures this out, and embraces it (by releasing all of the specs and shipping/supporting mods) will not only win the support of the modder community at large, but will also win the console war.
Take TiVo as an example, they don't officially support mods to thier box, but they have forums for the mods built right in to the official TiVo Bulletin Board. People love TiVo, and (before cable company DVRs) won the DVR war, hands down.
I could be way off on this, but it just seems to make sense.
That my girlfriend doesn't read/. I have a birthday coming up and would NEVER want her to get the idea to go to a store and talk to a clerk about games I might like (which is exactly what she would pull from this article!)
While understand Nintendo's goal to keep the costs of thier system down, I just can't see anything good coming of this. Granted, HDTV isn't widley accepted by the masses in the USA, but it has been out for years in Japan, and is the standard. Furthermore, the FCC changed the timings of the US HD rollout (as previously covered on/.) making it far more agressive meaning that more than 10% of the american households will have HD in the relatively near future.
Finally, I have a DVD player that upconverts directly to HD, it currently runs about $150, and is expected to be $100 by end of year. This (along with the fact that Xbox has HD and is $149)makes me think that HD just isn't that expensive. It at least makes sense to add it in and not reequire the developers to use it. But put it there for them if they want to use it.
I agree with the commentary in the story, there will be quite a few people saying that this will be the demize of Nintendo. I, for one, agree.
Scientists are using questionable methods, including "borrowing" eachoher's work in order to progress thier work which is, at least in some cases, good for the whole of man kind?
Where's the problem?
Next you'll be telling me that we can't use nanotech because people will take thier clothes.... oh wait, that was down below.
M$ is the rich kid who when he CAN'T play with someone else's toy, he goes out, buy's thier company (or one very similar), creates what he believes is a better toy, then pulls out its gun and attempts to murderize the other kid.
JANE: AAAHHHHH! There are robot's in my pants! I'd better take them off!
JOHN: Lady, there are robots in your shirt too... and your bra...... and now your panties......that's it, good. Now, if I inject you with this white goo, you'll be safe from the grey goo.
1080p TVs come out later this month... As far as HD goes, 1080p is the ONLY true HD, everything else is just a wannabe. (While this isn't true technically, once you see one in person, you'll agree whole-heartedly.
Oh, no. You just don't seem to realize that SWM renters are Uncle Sam's bitches. If you own a small biz (like me), you ge an extra 13% tacked on to that, minus the reach around.
Get used to it... My tax liability this year was $52K. If figure I pay the whole salary for a few marines, and that's a good thing.
For a super-cheap, excellent modeller, try SketchUp. Cheap to buy, and a 14 day free demo.
We use this tool to concept for our MMORPG (it exports) that is in development, it is incredibly powerful, superfast and so simple, my mother could use it.
In the SketchUp in Action section, they have a couple of vids that you might want to check out.
If you are looking for more interior design options, make sure you pull the "components" stuff from thier download section.

That in a month, when the 360's core is hacked and it becomes region-free, Vista will no longer support it as a Media Center extension?

Let's all run out and buy some bulk blanks before RIAA starts suing us!
Oh... wait... that's right, they sue the distributors! Look out Best Buy!

Didn't Interplay solve the radiation problem long ago with RadAway?

Most users have no reason to take thier own fingerprints. My ma has a nice set of hers decorating her printer.

Is there actually anyone who still thinks that? I havn't seen a VCR in years.

Right there with you, friend.
The industry does not need to be "policed". Parents need to be policed. Can't parents in Illinois control their kids?
Damn whiny dems.
I have 10 bucks that says this crap actually passes and wastes our precious $ on its way to the Supreme Court, which of course, will over turn it.
Ladies and Gentlemen of the Illinois Congress, meet Foresight.
